    Who exactly is rewriting history?
Who isn't, these days? We're in the Post- Truth era. A glaring example is Thailand actually.

So you give me as an example another dictatorship in a country hardly renowned for intellectual freedom.

Is that really the best you can come up with?

Added: By way of example, I would like to know how taking down a statue of Hamilton or Colston "rewrites" their history, which is really what you chumps are trying to say is happening.

Not even a hint of irony in the part you are playing in that yourself? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From 'The Little House On The Prairie' to statues of losers who had never even been to the place they were located you are apparently losing the plot over all of this stuff (and it seems more related to a sense of loss of agency and control on your part than anything else).

The rioting and raging and vandalism is probably ultimately not beneficial to the causes that the rioters are pursuing, assuming that civilisation and democracy survives the assault.

Do you think the vast peaceful majority of society is happy watching people riot and remove statues by force rather than how everyone else in society has to pursue their political aims, i.e. democratically by discussion and persuasion?

The rioters pay back may come at the voting booths where they might end up having to put up with another 4 years of Trump in the USA (or insert other conservative figure of relevant location).

Extreme civil disruption is often counter-productive to the cause it attempts to serve.

Let's hope the voters aren't dumb enough to subscribe to the patently absurd notion that tiny minority of 'the rioters' are some nebulous and homogeneous group that represent everyone or the actual issues then.

Do you support the actions of the rioters in demolishing statues by force or do you think the statues should be put back the way they were and political process followed to pursue their possible removal?

What do you think people will remember come election time?

That a lot of people got pissed off and protested about two black people being executed by policemen?; that a lot of people rioted and protested under baldy range cunto's "leadership"?; that they pulled down some irrelevant statues of people that you've probably never heard of? or that they pulled down statues of racists' heroes?

If people remember the first three, the chances are they are not voting for baldy.

If they remember the last one, they voted for baldy last time and they'll vote for him again because they want a racist in charge.

What is your view of rioters in a democracy demolishing statues because they have a political problem with them?

Do you support their actions or do you think the statues should be put back the way they were and political process followed to pursue their possible removal?

What makes you assume the statues were put up "democratically"?

If the statues were put up by or with the approval of established government in a civilisation which has existed continuously without revolution since that time and have existed for at least a century under what we would call modern democracy then I would say that they have established themselves as part of the peaceful civilisation that we inhabit today.

I would say that it is not legitimate to displace them in any other way than through a democratic process.

It is perfectly legitimate to question their continued legitimacy and campaign for their possible removal but I would say it is not legitimate or acceptable to tear them down in a riot.

Not happening. Even Southgate said it's not on the table.

PH you've become another clucking idiot - what do you classify as a statue, define it, look around before classifying and think again on that statement ... just how far back are we going with this attributing these icons to evil - are we just going to confine this cause to what 100, 200, 400 years or go back further on all misdeeds - its a clause celeb and one that screams millennial wanker - except there's a few olds here wading out of their depth who should know better. Your pouting mate will be along later for another day of boring righteous chest beating.

It's a stautue that was erected seven years ago, hardly of great historical value . . . and its removal changes nothing in history.

I don't believe the mayor should have had it removed without council or voter consent just because some fruit loop from another city said he was going to destroy it, but is it a game-changer for it to not be there? Hardly.

Hamilton has other stautues that more accurately depict the city's history

I think you should stop posting spurious and specious nonsense and using loaded language. That's what I think.

And you'll keep 'asking' until you get the answer you want to your straw-man.

    Rename the what now!?

He wasn't born in Hamilton or even in New Zealand and never stepped foot in the place.

Do you even actually know what you are upset and ranting about at this point.

If you're learning your history from plaques on statues then you are doing it wrong.

It's history rewritten, and it looks like he's been reading a lot of statues.
