TD is turning into a microcosm of Mercan societal issues which quite frankly i could not give a fuk about ordinarily but it seems the problem afflicting TD is also being liberally spread across the globe insinuating itself into your life whether you like it or not. Quite frankly i couldn't give a flying fuk if the Mercan police bag a rainbow of ethnicities inc whities, in fact the more the merrier but if you expect me to care if bubba gets tapped instead of serving a sentence -- nope could not give a fuk.

I hope when the history of all of this is written it is acknowledged how much old White dudes suffered through it all by not getting everything absolutely their own way and being mildly inconvenienced and miffed that other people want the same rights as them.

Maybe they'll put some statues to those heroes up so people can learn of their sacrifices.

Trump orders statues be protected from 'mob rule'

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order calling for protesters who target monuments to be imprisoned.

The removal of Hamilton's statue (NZ) is only the start, we should tear them all down-_113120086_tv062059140-jpg

The measure says anyone who damages a public statue must be prosecuted to the "fullest extent of the law".

Mr Trump's order also calls for withholding federal funds from local jurisdictions and police departments that fail to stop such "mob rule".

A number of US statues have been pulled down since the police killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd.

The president issued the order on Friday evening hours after he abruptly cancelled a planned trip to his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, writing on Twitter that he would stay in Washington DC to "make sure LAW & ORDER is enforced".

The measure says: "Many of the rioters, arsonists, and left-wing extremists who have carried out and supported these acts have explicitly identified themselves with ideologies - such as Marxism - that call for the destruction of the United States system of government."

It accuses the protesters of "a deep ignorance of our history".

The order cites the recent targeting of a San Francisco bust to Ulysses S Grant, who owned a slave before he became Union Army commander and defeated the slave-owning Confederacy during the Civil War, a statue in Madison, Wisconsin, of an abolitionist immigrant who fought for the Union, and a Boston memorial commemorating an African-American regiment that fought in the same conflict.

"Individuals and organizations have the right to peacefully advocate for either the removal or the construction of any monument," the executive order says.

"But no individual or group has the right to damage, deface, or remove any monument by use of force."

It cites existing laws providing for up to 10 years in prison for anyone who damages federal property.

The order warns local jurisdictions that neglect to protect such monuments could face having their federal funding tied to public spaces withheld.

Columbus and Confederate statues torn down in US
Should Washington and Jefferson monuments come down?

Police departments that have failed to guard statues from damage or vandalism could also lose such funds, the order warns.

It also states that anyone who "damages, defaces, or destroys religious property, including by attacking, removing, or defacing depictions of Jesus or other religious figures or religious art work" should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The measure appears to refer to a recent Twitter post by prominent social justice activist Shaun King who wrote that "statues of the white European they claim is Jesus should also come down".

The tweet added: "They are a form of white supremacy."

Monuments linked to the Confederacy have been especially targeted in the US amid the nationwide protests ignited by the death of Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a month ago.

President Trump has defended Confederate symbols as a part of American heritage.

Statues of Christopher Columbus, the 15th Century explorer whose voyages on behalf of Spain opened the way for the European colonisation of the Americas, have also been targeted as perceived symbols of imperialism.

Some state and local leaders have themselves taken action to remove Confederate symbols.

Earlier this month, Virginia's Governor Ralph Northam announced that a statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee would be taken down from the state capital in Richmond.

If Trump uses this rioting and vandalism opportunity to parade himself as the 'Law and Order' candidate and successfully leverages it as a pathway to a second term then the BLM pantomime orchestrators will have a lot to answer for.

Nation Rallies Around Ronald McDonald Statue That Embodies Country’s True Heritage

WASHINGTON—Affirming their unwavering support for the fast food mascot, Americans rallied around a Ronald McDonald statue Thursday that they said embodied the country’s true heritage. “We refuse to let what this clown represents to our people and our way of life just be snuffed out,” said Jackson, MS resident Martin Kerpatch, one of the many demonstrators at a McDonald’s PlayPlace who had locked arms in a circle around the fiberglass sculpture of the iconic character relaxing on a bench.

“You may not support everything this statue represents—we acknowledge that menu items such as the Arch Deluxe and McDLT complicate Ronald McDonald’s legacy—but to erase it from history would mean erasing the Big Mac and Chicken McNuggets as well. And we will never allow that to happen.” At press time, the protestors had begun swaying and chanting, “Ba da ba ba bah! I’m lovin’ it! Ba da ba ba bah! I’m lovin’ it!”

When I first read this, I thought "Oh no, not John Wayne?". But I didn't realise what a horrible little bigot he was.

President Donald Trump thinks it is “incredible stupidity” for Democrats in Orange County to push to remove John Wayne’s name, statue and likeness from their county airport. The organization has called for the name change because of, among other things, the racist and bigoted things the screen legend said in a 1971 interview.

In a tweet Monday morning, Trump defended the airport being named after the Hollywood star, a longtime Orange County resident who died 41 years ago. In the same tweet, Trump also blasted the decision by Princeton University to drop President Woodrow Wilson’s name from its school of public policy.

“Can anyone believe that Princeton just dropped the name of Woodrow Wilson from their highly respected policy center. Now the Do Nothing Democrats want to take off the name John Wayne from an airport. Incredible stupidity!”
But then the details come out.

Leaders of Orange County’s Democratic Party passed an emergency resolution last week, condemning Wayne’s comments to Playboy magazine in 1971. Among many incendiary things, Wayne said, “I believe in white supremacy until the Blacks are educated to a point of responsibility.”

The Democratic party leaders have called on the Orange County Board of Supervisors to drop Wayne’s name from the international airport and “restore it to its original name: Orange County Airport,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

The controversy over Wayne’s racist views has been brewing for at least a year. In February 2019,
a fierce debate arose on social media after his Playboy comments resurfaced on Twitter.

The Playboy interview occurred when Wayne was in his 60s and fresh off his Oscar win for “True Grit.” In the lengthy interview, Wayne discussed a range of topics, from working in Hollywood to race and sex. He voiced his support for white supremacy during a discussion about Black political activist and academic Angela Davis.

“With a lot of Blacks, there’s quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so,” Wayne said. “But we can’t all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the Blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the Blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.”

Later in the interview, Wayne said he didn’t feel “guilty about the fact that five or 10 generations ago (Black) people were slaves.” Wayne continued: “Now, I’m not condoning slavery. It’s just a fact of life, like the kid who gets infantile paralysis and has to wear braces so he can’t play football with the rest of us.”

Wayne also lamented “tokenism” in Hollywood and accused Native Americans of “selfishly trying to keep (North America) to themselves.”

Wayne’s Western films, including “The Searchers,” were accused of perpetuating stereotypes about Native Americans.

Wayne furthermore blasted Communists for teaching in American public schools and the depiction of gay sex in “Midnight Cowboy,” the 1970 best picture Oscar winner. Wayne used a homophobic slur to describe the characters played by Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight.

Journalist and author Glenn Greenwald was among those who joined the Twitter debate to challenge the image Wayne built for himself as a model of American courage and manliness. In many of the more than 200 films Wayne made from 1926 to 1977, Wayne played World War II heroes and stalwart figures of the American West.

Greenwald, a co-founder of The Intercept, tweeted: “I devoted a book chapter to John Wayne, a conservative icon & one of the 20th Century’s most deceitful & pitiful men. A supporter of McCarthy, war cheerleader & moralizer who casually impugned patriotism & called people perverts while draft-dodging & having serial drunken affairs.”

In October, Wayne’s Playboy comments prompted students at the film school at the University of Southern California, the actor’s alma mater, to ask the campus to remove a permanent exhibit devoted to his career. Wayne attended USC in the 1920s under his birth name, Marion Michael Morrison. He was honored with a collection of memorabilia, scripts, props and awards from many of his films.

The move to rethink public tributes to Wayne is part of “a national movement to remove white supremacist symbols and names (that are) reshaping American institutions, monuments, businesses, nonprofits, sports leagues and teams,” the resolution by Orange County Democrats said. The movement was sparked by the Memorial Day killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.
    Woodrow Wilson was even worse.

Removing President Wilson’s name from Princeton University’s school of public policy came Friday. A release from the university’s Board of Trustees said, “We have taken this extraordinary step because we believe that Wilson’s racist thinking and policies make him an inappropriate namesake for a school whose scholars, students, and alumni must be firmly committed to combating the scourge of racism in all its forms.”

Wilson, the country’s 28th president from 1913 to 1921, once defended racial segregation as “a benefit” and said slaves “were happy and well-cared for,” CNN reported. He denied admission to African American men and sought to exclude them from the school’s history.

“Wilson’s racism was significant and consequential even by the standards of his own time,” Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber said in a statement. “He segregated the federal civil service after it had been racially integrated for decades, thereby taking America backward in its pursuit of justice. He not only acquiesced in but added to the persistent practice of racism in this country, a practice that continues to do harm today.”
This isn't rewriting "history", it's replacing bullshit with truth.

Sorry if it's been mentioned already in one of these threads but I read a quote somewhere earlier that seeing as Mohammed was a slave trader, shouldn't Mosques be torn down too. Makes about as much sense.
