As of today, in England you're an organ donor unless you opt out

I dare say the whackjobs will be opting out in their hordes claiming the government is going to kill them for their organs, but personally I think this is an excellent idea.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who simply haven't been arsed to fill out and carry a donor card. This saves them the trouble.

An organ-donation law named after a girl from Barnstaple comes into effect from today, 20 May.

Max and Keira's law is named after nine-year-old Keira Ball who died in a car crash in 2017.

Her organs helped save the lives of four people - including ten-year-old Max Johnson.

The new law means people must now
    opt-out of becoming organ donors.

The bill to change the organ donation law was backed by all major parties.

    Government ministers
said last year the change in the rules in England could save up to 700 lives a year by increasing the number of organs available.

Yeah but I suspect you're right about the whackjobs though. It'll be twisted somehow.

In NZ you could elect to be a donor when you got your drivers license and I think the majority do. At least that's how it was back in the day when I did it.

I thought that was the same in the UK since the 1980's.

I think they'll find my organs will be well past their use by date...

    IWGTFY. Yes

The tooth is an amazing sensory organ. The outside of the tooth, the enamel, is the hardest tissue in the human body. The enamel surrounds another layer of the tooth called the dentin.

I'm an organ donor (whoever gets my penis will be very lucky), but I'm not sure it should be automatically forced upon everyone - you're not owned by the health services, it's an individual choice. As long as it's very clear and easy for folks who want to opt out then I suppose it'll be ok. Knowing the UK, they'll probably start selling peoples parts to make money to fund the NHS...

You lot really do like to thrust your views upon others in a binary way - this place has become toxic with one-eyed dogma.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

I'd hardly say it's being "forced on everyone" when you can opt out.

What I didn't know is Wales already does it, and Scotland will join in March 2021.

    How do I opt out?

You still have a choice in whether you want to be an organ donor or not when you die, only now you need to opt out rather than sign up.

This can be done by ringing 0300 123 2323 or by filling out an NHS Organ Donor Register withdrawal form.

And some groups of people will be automatically excluded from the new scheme.

These groups will include people under 18, people who have lived in England for less than 12 months or who are not living here voluntarily, and people who lack the capacity to understand the change.

    Who cannot donate organs?

Macmillan states that cancer survivors are not automatically ruled out of organ donation.

Their website says it is possible to donate if you have had cancer, but what you can donate may be affected.

If you have a medical condition such as cancer, a healthcare professional will review your medical history after you have died.

They will then decide whether one or more of your organs or tissues are suitable for donation, with parts able to be donated ranging from corneas of the eyes to kidney and heart.

I hope organ recipients get the same opt out mechanism. Who would want to receive the malevolent, infected organs of a superiority complex, from someone like seeking assimilation?

At least he has declared a preference for avoiding UK, since they rejected his application to relocate there.

As long as the harvested organs don't end up for auction or on the black market, it seems okay.. You would hope the system will prevent this.

    A big trade apparently.
When describing organ trafficking, there is often confusion as to how this crime can happen. Global Financial Integrity (GFI) estimates that 10 percent of all organ transplants including lungs, heart and liver, are done via trafficked organs.1 However, the most prominent organs that are traded illicitly are kidneys, with the World Health Organization (WHO) estimating that 10,000 kidneys are traded on the black market worldwide annually, or more than one every hour.2

Well considering how many people die every day I imagine there'll be a glut on the market soon.
The NHS could make up some funding shortfalls by selling the excess to China.

Maybe if they tell them that eating them will make their tiny dicks bigger, they'll ease up on the bats and pangolins.
