Melbourne Freeway tragedy: 4 Police killed, Porsche driver faces court

A Melbourne court has heard a 41-year-old man allegedly filmed a dying Victoria Police officer and berated her for wrecking his Porsche.

A Melbourne man is accused of filming a dying female police officer after a crash on the Eastern Freeway and berating her for wrecking his “f***ing car”.
Richard Pusey, 41, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning facing a stack of charges including driving with speed, dangerous, reckless conduct endangering life and failing to remain after a drug test.
He also faced charges of failing to render assistance, failing to exchange detail, possessing drug of dependence, destruction of evidence and three counts of commit indictable offence while on bail.
Victoria Police alleges Mr Pusey was intercepted by two officers on the Eastern Freeway on Wednesday afternoon after being seen driving his Porsche 911 at speeds up to 140km/h.
A drug test returned positive readings for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Two other officers arrived at the scene to impound Mr Pusey’s car. The four officers were struck by a truck in the emergency lane and all four were killed.
Mr Pusey was uninjured and left the scene.
The court today heard the mortgage broker from Fitzroy was recorded on the bodycam of a dying Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor.
He allegedly told her: “There you go. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. All I wanted to do was go home and have my sushi. Now you’ve f****ed my f***ing car.”
AAP reports Constable Taylor could be heard groaning for help.

Mr Pusey did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in court again in July.
Police have not yet spoken to the driver of the semi trailer, a man from Cranbourne identified as Mohinder Singh Bajwa.
Deputy Police Commissioner Shane Patton said on Friday morning Mr Bajwa is not yet in a position to speak with officers.
The four officers killed in the crash have been identified as Leading Senior Constable Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney.
On Thursday night, they were remembered during a tribute that saw several Melbourne CBD landmarks bathed in blue light.
An in memoriam page set up by Victoria police was also flooded with tributes.
On Thursday evening, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said the freeway’s cameras and bodycam footage from the officers contains “quite illustrative” evidence of what happened.
“We’ve got a lot of evidence to piece together and while we currently don’t know [what caused the crash], we will know before too much longer,” he told A Current Affair.
According to 7News, Mr Pusey was not in the path of the truck that killed the four officers because he was urinating on the side of the road at the time.
Detectives are still investigating the tragic crash that led to the single biggest loss of lives in state history.
Commissioner Ashton said the semi trailer driven by Mr Bajwa “appears to have moved from one of the traffic lanes of the freeway into the emergency lane and travelled a short distance in the emergency lane at around 100km/h”.
He said Mr Bajwa suffered a “medical episode”, “which seemed to involve him blacking out”.
“The investigation into the exact cause of the collision remains ongoing,” the force said in a statement.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.”

He also filmed the dying cops and shared the images on social media.

He is not going to have a good time...

The guy Pusey drawing all the flak, deservedly. But he didn't kill those cops.

Now, about the guy driving the truck.?

Detectives are still investigating the tragic crash that led to the single biggest loss of lives in state history.

    That's what I can't work out.

There's zero surprise in a 'financial advisor' named Pusey who drives a Porsche being an utter twat but it appears he didn't directly cause the crash? Not that I'm trying to excuse his actions but it seems he may have been stopped for speeding by these cops and then the truck hit them all?

^The Porsche was stopped, and the Pusey guy was taking a piss away from his car when the truck hit the cops, as I read it.

According to 7News, Mr Pusey was not in the path of the truck that killed the four officers because he was urinating on the side of the road at the time.
The truck driver that ploughed into them:
Deputy Police Commissioner Shane Patton said on Friday morning Mr Bajwa is not yet in a position to speak with officers.

Correct, and failed a drug test while driving as well.

He then filmed them as they were dying, shared it on social media and run off instead of helping them or calling an ambulance.

Sure, a medical episode with tragic consequences versus an utter prick who was basically pissing on dying people's graves instead of trying to help.

I know who I feel sorry for and it isn't the Pussey prick

Yeah that part was reprehensible. Though I thought I saw something that there was some doubt over who actually uploaded it to social media, or at least that they couldn't prove it was him.

Again not trying to defend the prick though. The comments and texts etc. that he is known to have made and sent show just what a piece of shit he is.

Just adds to the fact that stopping on the hard shoulder is one of the most dangerous places to be.

And correct, he didn't directly cause those cops deaths, but his choices were certainly contributing factors and I dare say he will be hit with as many charges as they can possibly get onto him.

Apparently the crash was the biggest loss of police officer life in Victoria’s history. (in a single event, obviously)

Doubtless there are at least parts of that occurence which would leave many TD posters completely stunned. As well as dubious of your sources.

What's a 'medical episode', could be anything from a proper condition (epilepsy/blackout) through life choices (fatigue/drugs) and random events like a sneeze or coughing fit.

Yep. Truck driver maybe having a seizure or heart attack at the time, but managing to get the vehicle into the emergency lane..

You have to wonder what sort of utter cnut's first reaction to a situation like this is to berate dying people.. But the 'filming' part was captured on the cop's bodycam, not by the perp.?

Blacked out, they don't know or aren't saying why. Apparently still in hospital and yet to speak to the po-po. No suggestion of any culpability on his behalf as yet.

Eastern freeway crash: Police body cam footage reveals dying officer’s last moments

At 5.06pm on Wednesday, a Victoria Police officer turned on her dashcam. It captured her last moments as well as the final words she heard from Richard Pusey.

Police charge Porsche ‘playboy’ after crash that killed four officers

Mr Pusey, is facing extensive criminal charges including failure to render assistance, possession, and destruction of evidence.

At 5.06pm on Wednesday in the emergency lane of Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor switched on her body camera.
Roughly 36 minutes later, the 60-year-old with a distinguished 31-year career was pinned by a semi-trailer and begging for help.
But help never came. Police allege the one person who could have offered assistance told Constable Taylor he just wanted to go home and eat sushi.
And those words, the last she would ever hear, were recorded by her body camera.
Richard Pusey, 41, had been pulled over by Constable Taylor for allegedly driving at 140km/h. Police also allege a drug test recorded traces of methamphetamine and cannabis in his system.
As she lay dying on the side of the road, police say Mr Pusey walked up to her and said: “There you go. Amazing, absolutely amazing … All I wanted was to go home and have my sushi and now you’ve “f***ed my f***ing car.”
The mortgage broker from Fitzroy, whose Porsche 911 was crushed in the crash, was uninjured.

He allegedly collected two iPhones from his vehicle, recorded footage of Constable Taylor and three other officers — all of whom died in the crash — and fled the scene.
In court on Friday, a police informant said Mr Pusey sent the footage from the crash site to another party and joked that he hoped to get out of the fine.
He was arrested on Thursday morning and charged with driving with speed, dangerous, reckless conduct endangering life, failing to remain after a drug test, failing to render assistance, failing to exchange detail, possessing drug of dependence, destruction of evidence and three counts of committing an indictable offence while on bail.
Supported in court by his wife, Mr Pusey did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 16.
Lawyers for the 41-year-old said he has mental health issues.
The truck that killed Constable Taylor also hit and killed Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney.
The driver, Cranbourne man Mohinder Singh Bajwa, had a medical episode after veering into emergency lane about 5.42pm.

Police officers attend the aftermath of the collision on the Eastern Freeway. Picture: Scott Barbour/AAPSource:AAP

He blacked out, police say, and was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard. Deputy Police Commissioner Shane Patton on Friday said Mr Bajwa was not yet in a condition to give an interview to detectives. He has not been charged.
“We don’t really know what has caused that truck to crash into the cars and subsequently cause the death of the police officers so we do have a fully open mind on it,” Mr Patton told 3AW.
“That’s why it’s pretty much a dual investigation with major collision and homicide both investigating.”
As police piece together the moments leading up to the collision, the force is mourning the loss of four dedicated and beloved officers.
In obituaries provided to the media on Thursday, the officers were described in glowing terms.
Constable Humphris, originally from Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, moved to Melbourne in 2019 to begin his policing career.

Mr Pucey’s defence lawyer Vincent Peters. Picture: Tim CarrafaSource:News Corp Australia

“His squad mates said he genuinely wanted to help people, had a great sense of community and genuine empathy for everyone — victim and offender alike,” his obituary read.
Constable Prestney, who also joined Victoria Police in 2019, was described as “a much loved and respected member of his squad”.
Leading Senior Constable Taylor, who joined Victoria Police in 1989, was remembered as “having a great sense of adventure and had instilled this spirit in her children”. She was in the process of building her dream home with her husband, Stuart.
Senior Constable King, who had been with Victoria Police for six years, “always wanted to laugh, have a good time and talk about footy”, said the officer in charge of Nunawading Highway Patrol.
Melbourne landmarks including the MCG, Town Hall and Flinders Street Station were bathed in blue light on Thursday night to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.

Personally I think they forgot to add:
    Indecent exposure
    littering

About the only time you'll see them out of a wifebeater and in a shirt and tie.

I'm sure he'll still have his shorts on though.

The road appears to have five lanes. Is there a traffic rule to keep left in OZ. The dash cam car is driving in the centre lane where two on the left are empty or 1 car some distance ahead.
