Only knuckle-dragging Brxit morons, the ignorant, the ill-informed, the bigoted and the racist claim that immigrants distort the employment market by driving wages down and keeping indigenous labour out of the market.

The UK's occupational workforce number around 32 millions that operates in an environment where the minimum wage applies to all and is legally enforced.

The 3 million or so EU migrants constitute a mere 5% of the population and of those around 86% aged over 18 years old are in employment, a rate higher than indigenous labour and a total of about 2.3 million which represents around 6% of the total occupational workforce.

Now, by dint of what rationale would anyone with a fucking brain actually believe a mere 6% of the workforce dictates wage policy for the remaining 94%?? And before any monkey brained moron says otherwise, the EU migrant is employed in the full spectrum of work, from consultant heart specialist to a ward cleaner, from the bank securities trader to the sandwich bar owner, from quantity surveyor to hod carrier, from college professor to handyman, tc.

The thing is, and this is where the stupidity of Paki Patel comes in, the UK is a liberal, western democracy is a free society in which citizens can choose what they do. Patel of course is as thick as shit and fails to comprehend the implications. The British do not wish to work in fields, clean shit-clogged arseholes of geriatric patients, change hotel beds or to work in factory lines processing food and if they do they are a minority or they cannot keep pace with demand.

In the past twenty years we have seen an explosion in the demographic that is in part time employment, and who classify themselves as self employed - 26% of the total ar now part time workers, and around 15 % are self employed. 10% of all part-time work is involuntary. To a certain extent the stats are driven by the working tax credit system that subsidises such employment and low wages - employers also benefit by paying lower NI contributions.

EU migration is not therefore the driver of this trend, it is merely a function of British society as it evolves into a largely serviced based economy.

The idiot Patel has said that the economically inactive of the UK, around 8% of the population, can make up the shortfall created by the enforced diminution of EU migrant contribution to the economy. Disaggregated, this percentage comprises, the sick and infirm, students, the retired, housewives, single parents, carers, the discouraged and the criminal.

So, is this half-witted Home Secretary in her arrant and lofty ignorance seriously suggesting that the inactive demographic is going to decide in the next 10 months to alter the entire trajectory of their lives and take up work for which they variously have no aptitude, skill or even inclination to undertake??

On 1.1.21 the employers of the UK will now have to replenish their labour force from a diminishing pool of workers and the only solution offered by an idiot Home Secretary to the impending disaster for the care and leisure industries is to upskill pensioners, housewives, students, the disabled and the sick.

Truly with Patel we are firmly in the Age of The Stupid.

I like a conditional amnesty, with requirements that include learning English and a trade, work, pay taxes, keep the nose clean, and strict reporting procedures so that if they screw up and or decide to disappear all bets are off and it's an instant deportation whenever they are tagged or surface.

Let's face it, if you're offering a bright future compared to what they escaped from, you should be entitled to ask for a reasonable something in return.

The Labour Market Effects of Immigration

    18 Feb 2020

This briefing discusses the impacts of immigration on the labour market in the UK, focusing on wages and employment.

    Key Points
    • The impacts of immigration on wages and employment of existing workers depend on factors such as whether migrants’ skills are complements or substitutes to the skills of existing workers, and how immigration affects the demand for labour
      More…
    • Research shows a very small impact of overall immigration on employment and unemployment of UK-born workers, though this effect is stronger among those with lower levels of education
      More…
    • Research suggests that immigration has small impacts on average wages of UK workers but that the impacts are not evenly distributed: low-waged workers are more likely to lose while medium and high-paid workers are more likely to gain
      More…
    • The wage effects of immigration are likely to be greatest for resident workers who are migrants themselves

It would be good if the immigration staff understood the rules. Actually, it would be good if they weren't freaking immigrants themselves...wouldn't surprise me if some weren't illegal freaking immigrant immigration officers...

That episode with the wife and the headless chicken act that followed has at least kept my faith in standing one's ground and refusing to be fobbed off with ignorant pseudo authority.

Thank goodness they could also speak some sort of English...

How can so called Indian takeaways justify having a dozen male staff working every night with bugger all customers?

    Obviously a visa scam...

Regards farm labourers, i'm sure there's plenty of lazy, bludgers that can be eased off benefits and back into the work place.

Special Brew Barry, white lightening Linda and Spice Steve must be breathing a sigh of relief now that they can get off universal credit and get picking carrots and wiping arses down the care home.

You'd be amazed at how many illegals Indians,Pakis, and Bangers, are working in the catering trade, through sham agencies and contracted to hotel chains, no check on them whatsoever.

Brexiters, they take their figures out of thin air.
It takes less than one minute with google to verify which country is the biggest contributor or which country has the biggest per capita contribution so I can't understand why they want to make a fool of themselves by lying.

^ ^ My post, the one you replied to, was about being able to google Britains position as EU net contributor per country or per capita instead of inventing a figure.
I guess that's too difficult for you to do..

It is one thing to say such migrants will now be sifted into a system of tiering to determine whether or not their employment residence will qualify them for permanent status and to actually implement it.

I cannot see the EU migrants seeking work in the UK if it ultimately fails to confer residence permitting settlement except for those looking for holiday employment and to refine their English skills. Inevitably, it seems that Britain will be importing Asians and Africans to do this work in numbers that most likely will equate to over 200,000.

    That'll be nice.

Australia's "working tourist visa" thing seems to work just fine, so why not copy it?

If this isn't seasonal work, and there is a labour shortage, allow finite working visas for those trades.

It's better than restaurants full of 20 illegal Pakistanis working 100+ hour weeks below minimum wage and sending every single spare penny back home while the British passport holding Pakistani fucking mints it.

It's funny how the same cadre' that just loved Bojo when he was Mayor of London, hate him now. Almost as funny as how he's now the champion of the Alf Garnet set.
Like this moneyed graduate of the Bullingdon Club is gonna drive up British working mans wages above and beyond inflation with a total anti-immigration stance? Yeh, right.
