    Casino sued by compulsive gambler

CASINO SUED BY COMPULSIVE GAMBLER FOR LETTING HIM LOSE $260,000

A Canadian man is suing a casino for allegedly letting him lose more than $342,000 (about $260,000 U.S.) by taking advantage of his status as a compulsive gambler.

Tarwinder Shokar says he lost about $342,000 during an October 2013 trip to Caesars Windsor Resort and Casino. He is suing the casino and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG) for his losses, in addition to punitive damages of $500,000 (around $381,000 U.S.), according to a Thursday report in The Windsor Star. The lawsuit was not filed long after the gambling took place, but the case was only recently transferred to the Superior Court of Justice in Windsor.

"Our position is he was a compulsive gambler and the casino and/or the OLG were either well aware of his past background—or should have been," Shokar's lawyer Iain MacKinnon told the paper.

Shortly before the Caesars binge, Shokar was said to have attempted suicide by throwing himself in front of a bus after losing all his money at a different casino. Although he was seriously injured, he survived the collision and received a large insurance payout as a result of his injuries. He then used the insurance money to finance his massive losing streak.

Shokar reportedly had fraud convictions and was banned from a number of other casinos due to his behavior prior to the binge. A travel agency specializing in casino visits is said to have suggested Caesars Windsor. Shokar claims that when the casino understood that he intended to gamble a large amount of money, they rolled out the VIP treatment and plied him with alcohol, allowing him to gamble while he was intoxicated.

His first visit to the casino on October 17, 2013 resulted in him losing approximately $92,000 ($70,000 U.S.) by the next morning. Days later, he racked up losses of $250,000 (around $190,000 U.S.). The lawsuit alleges that the casino should have known he had a gambling problem, but took advantage of him due to the large amount of money they could make.

MAN’S GENITALS STOLEN DURING TRIP TO THAILAND

Bangkok | What started as a pleasant holiday in Thailand rapidly turned into a nightmarish situation when XXXX XXXXX, a 58-year old American tourist, woke up in excruciating pain to notice his genitals had been removed during his sleep.

The victim was allegedly drugged unwittingly before he woke up hours later in a pool of blood in his hotel room while his genitals had been completely removed, leaving him in critical condition.

Fortunately, the hotel staff were alarmed by the distress calls of the man who was quickly taken to the Bangkok Hospital so he could receive emergency care while the man suffered from severe bleeding that could have cost him his life.

For the past few months, Thai authorities have been struggling
against a wave of criminal surgical aggressions against tourists
whose genitals are worth top dollars on the Asian black market.

“We are in the presence of a growing trend on the black market for the illegal traffic of human genitals into China” said an officer in charge of operations.

“Large sized genitals can fetch prices in the tens of thousands of dollars for their alleged aphrodisiac qualities when consumed as food,” he says.

The health of the 58-year old man is stable and he should be out of the hospital in a few days.

Thai authorities warn tourists to be very conscious when traveling alone and meeting ‘friendly’ strangers in the streets of Bangkok.

Aw, not wrong thread, just following an OT...

Anyone know who covers the cost of emergency hospital treatment for high profile non-Thai victims of accidents/assaults like this?

Wouldn't like to guess what this hospital charged for that surgery and those 'few days' in recovery, though there must be some protocol that kicks in for special cases; otherwise private hospitals insist on significant deposits from uninsured patients in lieu of involved emergency treatment.

8 years ago an emergency caught me without enough cash to meet the deposit demand at a certain hospital not far from Sukhumvit, facing a stern, wholly unreasonable and abusive katoey head of accounts in front of his/her/its staff. As it happened I wasn't in any mood for shit, shut her up and earned some points from her underlings by offering my son as a hostage, to do with as they please if I didn't pay them within 24hrs; managed to rustle up the amount within an hour, but they're still crunts!

But staying on topic, does seem a bit weird to sue a casino for losses.

It's just an urban legend.... similar to the kidney harvesting one where the victim wakes up in an icy cold water bath after having his/her kidneys removed.

If its life threatening they will go ahead and save you. The reason they are trying to bring in mandatory health insurance is to try and combat that.

I know a guy in Bangkok who had his skull smashed in on higher Sukhumvit who is being taking care of in a hospital there with severe brain damage.

That might contribute to the 'huge' losses incurred by hospitals, when farangs can't pay for sudden life threatening conditions; so we all get blasted.

Yup, 'tis one of them April 1 headlines. "what has the world come to?" plus "wieners" kinda connected the dots, had to search for awhile to find the, well, news article.

Makes about as much sense as suing a casino for allowing you to gamble.

Threads off on a tangent... story all, my bad.

However, gotta wonder just what creative financial auditing was used to detail just how much hard cold cash the Thai hospitals are losing to the Falang who successfully managed to skip out on bills.
