Spouse of U.S. diplomat in deadly car crash leaves UK, prompting outcry

LONDON — A spouse of a U.S. diplomat has returned to the U.S. after being involved in a deadly crash in the United Kingdom.

Neither the name of the spouse nor the U.S. diplomat has been released.

The incident involved 19-year-old Harry Dunn, who died in a collision on Aug. 27 in Croughton, a small village in central England, Northamptonshire Police announced in late August.

Dunn was on his Kawasaki motorcycle when he collided with a Volvo XC90 traveling in the opposite direction, police said.

Superintendent Sarah Johnson with Northamptonshire police confirmed in an online statementSaturday that a 42-year-old American woman being treated as a suspect in the investigation into the fatal crash has left the country.

I don't blame her for taking advantage of diplomatic immunity and doing a runner.

I do however blame the seppos for refusing to waive it and letting her do a runner.

This is not some third world country fabricating trumped-up charges (excuse the pun).

    Shame on them.

The husband of the US woman granted diplomatic immunity after a car crash which killed a teenager was not registered as a diplomat, it has emerged.

Jonathan Sacoolas, whose 42-year-old wife Anne fled Britain after Harry Dunn's death in the smash, is not on the published list of accredited diplomats in the UK, a lawyer says.

The spy also worked at an intelligence base rather than a diplomatic mission, but both the US and UK governments have called him a diplomat.

Therefore, it seems Mr Sacoolas is not entitled to diplomatic immunity.

I don't know if traffic offences are covered under the extradition treaty tbh.

The current adminstration doesn't have a shred of decency anyway, so they would probably not send her back.

Then the UK has to file for extradition

Happens all the time - all countries diplomatic corps are under a blanket of protection.

The "oh how can this possibly happen" effect and the headlines will die down, and, more than likely, the "outrage" will be managed most probably with a reasonably large payment to the bereaved family.

A story soon to be forgotten.

Decent countries waive immunity where it is appropriate.

The US is more like Iran at this point in time.

Neither the husband or wife are "diplomats". All must be registered in UK public documents, available to any who which to actually know what is and what is not true or fake.

The husband works at a UK based spy centre, he relays information back to ameristan in accordance with the "No spying on ameristani subjects by ameristanis " five eyes agreement. Being "given" the "spying evidence" by the UK spies, the evidence, is acceptable under the treaty. The UK and probably all the five eyes members have similar spies based around the world. It helps with the citizens deception.

His wife has dubious backgrounds and may well be involved in other ameristani government groups, tasked with "protecting national security".

Are you suggesting that the person who ran down UK citizens with his car outside parliament, London and subsequently shot dead by UK security forces, was illegally shot?

A quote from an ex-ameristani president, as still used by current ameristani politicians, cannot be utilised to illustrate the crass ignorance of the ameristani population either base locally or in your case in foreign lands?

...I don't think the family of Dunn would be quite so blase about it.

    Certainly they won't soon forget.

there's no way trump is going to bend to UK pressure on this because he thinks it would make him appear weak.

as far as trump is concerned, this is really all about him.

So diplomatic impunity allows the wives of (possible) diplomats to plow over and kill locals whilst driving on the wrong side of the road?

    You almost gotta laugh.

My mom ran a German over once and the British Army moved them out of their sharpish before any charges were brought. Don't think he died though.

    This isn't my mom BTW...

Why not to engage the ex-ambassador who had so good and warm relation to Trump (what was his name)? He is now free, so he could surely strike a good solution for both sides...

Anyway, double standard as usually. Cannot imagine if it happened to another nationality. (sorry not to hold strictly with the topic...)

Another remarkable, knowledgable post from Ex UK Ambassador Craig Murry, shoots very large holes in the MSM "reporting" and the UK government's position.
