    Assange in hospital

    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/j...-a4154636.html

Will this turn out to be an oops, sorry 'bout that?

A convenient solution for not just HMgov but also concerned (sic) others to fatally wound Wiki, solve the dilemma of what to do with its founder, and send a clear message to others aspiring to reveal truths which they would rather not enter the public domain.

    ---

GENEVA — A United Nations expert on torture said on Friday that an examination of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in a British prison showed an alarming deterioration in his mental and physical state, and he sharply rebuked Britain, Sweden and the United States for “ganging up” on Mr. Assange.

Julian Assange is sick and being tortured, claims UN expert

A United Nations official accused Britain of subjecting Julian Assange to psychological torture yesterday as a court was told that he was too unwell to appear via a video-link.

Assange, 47, has been moved to the hospital wing of Belmarsh prison. One of his lawyers said that it was not possible to “conduct a normal conversation with him”.

The Wikileaks founder was said to be so unwell that he failed to appear by video-link as scheduled at Westminster magistrates’ court.

Assange is trying to block extradition to the US on new charges of computer hacking and conspiring to obtain “national defence information”.

Nils Melzer, the UN independent expert on torture, criticised Britain, America and Sweden, accusing them of “ganging up” on Assange in “a relentless…

if he really believed in what he is doing, he would man up and use the trial as a forum for more government transparency

he only did it for the fame, now it's payback time and Satan came to collect

^ From the forum's expert on little bitches.

Well, there's some truth to that....he did get to root two different Swedish women in a short period of time.

And also some truth to his NOT being a journalist, the way he did not remove delicate information which compromised and endangered various people. He made his bed, now he has to sleep in it.

Perhaps Harry is more righteous that John Swinton - a prominent journalist, also in the New York Times - who said on a press banquet in 1883:

There is no such a thing in America as an independent press, unless it is out in country towns. You are all slaves. You know it, and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to express an honest opinion. If you expressed it, you would know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid $150 for keeping honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things. If I should allow honest opinions to be printed in one issue of my paper, I would be like Othello before twenty-four hours: my occupation would be gone. The man who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the street hunting for another job. The business of a New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to villify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same — his salary. You know this, and I know it; and what foolery to be toasting an "Independent Press"! We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the string and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid has signed a request for Julian Assange to be extradited to the United States over computer hacking accusations.

The Wikileaks founder is due to appear via video link before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday for a case management hearing after the US requested his extradition.

Javid said he signed the order on Wednesday but that the final decision now rested with the courts.

Assange is serving a 50-week prison sentence after being dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy in April and jailed for a bail violation.

And an investigation has been reopened into an allegation of rape in Sweden, which Assange has always denied.

Javid told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I am very pleased that the police were finally able to apprehend him and now he’s rightly behind bars because he broke UK law.

“There is an extradition request from the US that is before the courts tomorrow. But yesterday I signed the extradition order and certified it and that will be going in front of the courts tomorrow.”

He said it was a decision for the courts over whether Assange should be extradited.

Javid added: “There is a very important part of it for the Home Secretary and I want to see justice done at all times and we’ve got a legitimate extradition request so I’ve signed it but the final decision is now with the courts.”

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Mr Assange was arrested in relation to a provisional extradition request from the United States of America.

“He is accused of offences including computer misuse and the unauthorised disclosure of national defence information.

“We have received the full extradition request, which has been certified by the Home Secretary.

“This case is now before the courts and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

I love the way people attempt to close off any debate by coming out with phrases like this.

Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A British judge ruled Friday that Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange, who's wanted in both the United States and Sweden, will not be released this month because he has a history of disappearing.

Assange was scheduled to be released from jail Sept. 22 at the end of his 50-week sentence, for jumping bail several years ago. A Westminster Magistrates Court said Friday, however, there are "substantial grounds" for believing he would skip bail again to avoid extradition to the United States, where he faces computer hacking charges.

An extradition hearing is scheduled for Feb. 25, and the judge ordered Assange held until then.

District Judge Vanessa Baraiser told Assange that his attorney did not apply for bail on his behalf, adding "perhaps not surprisingly in light of your history of absconding in these proceedings."

"In my view I have substantial grounds for believing if I release you, you will abscond again," she said.

The 48-year-old Australian appeared in the courtroom through a video link from jail.
