On the bright side, the flight deck probably survived, so they should be able to tell us what led to the crash. Clearly barely in control at landing.

Yes, that would certainly have slowed down the evacuation and killed people in this instance.

    Utter fucking madness.

I was on a flight (BA149 - 747)that had emergency evacuation on stand. We had just been refueled when Iraqi fighter bimbers starting dropping bombs around us.

Many passengers stopped to collect luggage, glasses, meds, passports etc. whilst the plane was rocking in the shockeaves and crew shouting to evacuate.

Lots of Indians on that one.

i now always select a seat on or v near an exit. On a couple of occasions where crap airlines have allocated me a seat away from an exit i simply remove myself from the aircraft and request the return of my luggage.

^ why not look at your boarding pass at check-in, instead of being a cock and delaying flights?

Because BA assigns seats automatically without possibility to change Being on board is the only leverage you have to change.

You would choose or know your seat at online check in (24hrs before flight) or pre pay for seat of choice at booking.

Silver/Gold card holders get free seat selection when booking.

Shut up with your pesky facts, it ruins the storytelling.

Doeant say that on their website....

On British Airways marketed and operated flights, you may change your seat at any time, and pay the difference in price where applicable. If you change your seat to one of a lower price, we will not refund the difference. You cannot make changes to your paid seating on flights marketed by other carriers.

Meanwhile, there's a video showing the aircraft bounce and come down hard on the second landing taking out the main gear.

Lighting strike followed by some control system failures is the current rumour.

    It did.

There is a video someone took in the cabin (!) showing utter chaos during the evacuation which they are claiming took "55 seconds", when it fact it took almost 6 minutes to get out less than half of the passengers. People just stood around looking, others taking their bags down, etc.
