The same reaction from even the most loyal Tesla fans. But then the preorders, paying $100 for preorder came pouring in. 146,000 within 24 hours and not the low end version. Mostly the more expensive 2 and 3 motor versions with bigger batteries. 200,000 within 48 hours. If even half of those convert to full orders that's a solid order book.

Like always with Tesla the interior is spartan but what there is, is highest quality standard. Their seats are excellent.

People are wondering about crash test results. But all Tesla cars so far have been excellent in that department too.

BTW that 4 wheel offroad bike they loaded on the back was a secondary product announcement.

Yes, then the batteries, but that's not problem. The problem is the hegemony of the car industry and their prices.

For easy comparison one should look on the electric bike - I had driven it every day for a time period, twice daily 5 km, sometimes more. The motor is incorporated direct in the wheel, no gear, no chain, quite a small battery - could be much larger. Anyway, so easy to drive and not to care for the gasoline filling (mostly overdone with the engine oil addition), not to car for the dirt in the carburettor, gear, chain and many others.

Here in Thailand, there are zillions of motorcycles, up-country mostly the shitty Hondas, Yamaha, 100ccm, all for 60 - 80,000 B, what cost so much for the 5 - 10 km daily drive? The electric ones for less than half would do better, but there is no promotion and Thai people do not do otherwise than the neighbour.
I was in a medium sized city in China a while back. Took me ages to realize that why the streets were so quiet - it was because all the bikes/motorbikes were electric.

Batteries are still expensive and a limiting factor. They do get better a few % every year. Year on year improvement does not sound impressive but like interest it accumulates and over 10 years advances are very substantial. Battery and engine management is also where Tesla is way ahead of the competition. The legacy car manufacturers are right now finding out it is hard. Of course they will manage in the end but right now they are way behind.

Enough time for Tesla to establish them as a major car manufacturer. They are opening the factory in China right now. Next is a factory in Europe. They have just decided on a location near Berlin, Germany, surprising the experts again. They all betted on a site in the West, near river Rhine.

Green Delusion Persists: Tesla Crash Victim Can’t Find Anyone To Recycle His Wrecked Car

It was just over a month ago that we reported on a Tesla accident in Austria that resulted in firefighters needing to use a special container to transport the remains of the vehicle and the battery at the scene of the accident.

Now, the owner of the vehicle is having trouble finding someone who will properly recycle his wrecked car and its battery.

It’s been sitting in one place since the accident and Tyrol reports that “nobody wants to burn their fingers to dispose of the car with its unpredictable 600kg lithium-ion battery.”

The owner, Dominik Freymuth, says he feels “abandoned by the manufacturer.” Every morning he passes by the wreckage of his old vehicle, a stark reminder of being pulled out of his burning vehicle before it was charred to the ground, he says.

“Such a large lithium battery can not be taken over by his company since one does not even know the mix of dangerous substances inside them. The electric vehicle manufacturers kept the composition of their elixirs top secret so as not to lose their competitive edge. The liquid in which the accident car was cooled by the Walchsee is a dangerously poisonous brew, but now a coveted drop. The Montanuniversität Leoben has already secured samples of it in order to discover the secret of its content.”
In order to put out the fire, the street had to be closed and fire authorities had to bring in a container used to cool the vehicle. The container held 11,000 liters (11 tons) of water and was designed to eliminate the risk of the battery catching fire.

We noted in October that some 11,000 liters of water are needed to finally extinguish a burning Tesla but an average fire engine only carries around 2,000 liters of water.

^ I used to think the same, but watched some videos explaining the science, costs, etc, and we seem pretty close to tipping point now. Worth going for a hybrid or maybe full electric next car purchase, imho.

That truck is fugly to say the least.

All comes down to what you are paying for your Fuel, what government subsidies are available at the time of purchase, the range you are going to travel, the time of day for travel, the availability of a charging facility at work, the cost of the battery replacement (in about 10 years time), the, the, the, ... the list is extensive.

    And yep ... it's FUGLY

At the present prices for a Tesla you need high mileage for it to pay off. But at its low cost of operation it does beat ICE cars if you drive enough. No way with the very low mileage I drive.

Tesla has lost subsidies in the US because they have sold too many electric cars already. The competition is nowhere near that point yet.

Lack of ability to recharge over night at home is a major drawback. I can run a 3 phase cable to my garage without problem and charge 3x24A no problem. But not so many people in a city can.

The Toyota hybrid, if I go back to the UK, corolla model, is pretty nice, pretty cheap, and a decent toe into the 'battery/hybrid' world.

Ford challenged Tesla to an ‘apples to apples’ tug-of-war between pickup trucks — Musk says ‘bring it on’

    Key Points
    • The anticipated showdown, which could take place as early as next week, comes shortly after Tesla unveiled its all-electric Cybertruck.
    • During the promotional event in Los Angeles last week, Musk showcased a promotional video of the vehicle engaging in a tug-of-war battle against a Ford F-150.
    • However, critics of the demonstration have since argued the test was unfavorable to the U.S. automaker.

Most have not mentioned that the entire back bed cover is a solar panel that recharges the battery. Ya it is ugly but think of this more like software rather than traditional vehicle development. This is an Alpha build so things can change in a big way before they release even the beta version.

This is closer to the final product than you think IMO. The frame can be produced very cheap. Under the frame a lot of things need to be upgraded. Like the mechanism for the windows.

Seems Ford chickened out. They replied it was only a tongue in cheek remark. Despite the fact that they could bring their top of the line version while Tesla has only the medium 2 motor version available. The 3 motor version is not yet ready.

It will be a while. They have not started building them yet. The preorder count now stands above 250,000 and counting.

I guess the Tesla shorts will switch their line of argument again. From they can't deliver it was to they can't sell their production, back to they can't deliver.

Wait a moment, I have already seen pictures of it from the roads. Here is one of them:

Do you think it is just on of the testing bunch or smth? Anyway though, even after seeing cybertruck's specs and estimated price I don't think I'm gonna even think about buying one.
I rode a rented range rover evoque like this one https://realcar.nyc/rent-a-range-rover-evoque for almost three months and it is way more better looking than the one Tesla brings us to be honest.

Various members of cybertruckownersclub.com recently spotted the Cybertruck out and about testing on public roads and highways in Los Angeles — following a Model 3 assistant.

With pre-order only $100US, easy for the ego to say "I'm buying one"

The $100 deposits are fully refundable, Tesla says. Customers can finish configuring their vehicles as production nears in late 2021.

Can't see that passing impact and pedestrian testing standards in that configuration.

Probably another Musk promised development that won't eventuate anyways.

They are supposed to have a fleet of 1,000,000 self-driving taxis on the road by next year, I think the current tally is around zero so they better get cracking.
