Smacking children is dangerous, it can cause brain damage so evident in many that support it, but it also teaches children that violence is the prefered method of conflict resolution.
Both of my parents never physically punished me , a disapproving stare by my father, was all I needed to know I had crossed the line and if I did not step back there will be consequences.
It helps if your parents have earned your respect by their dignified behaviour. I have never physically punished my daughter also, and though we had our moments, at 22 she has turned out to be a terific kid.

"Obviously, beaten senseless is way over the "reasonable punishmnet" threshold." That's your story and you stick to it.
I wanted to give him a little love tap. Like he would then wake up and remember all the bad things he said to me.

    I'm talking about DR Bob.

I do wonder about the kind of man who thinks that hitting someone one third his size, someone who loves and trusts him absolutely, is ever appropriate.

There is a thread where I describe how one could use the frequency of a cheep radio to discern receptacle location.

That is for those that can't remember.

You can make your own snide comments about adoring munchkins that trust and love the parent, being physically assaulted.
An open hand slap on the rump may technically be assault, but you're putting a nasty spin on it.
I'll go with the last resort smack rather than the psychological torture.

Should kids who receive occasional smacks at home be encouraged to report their parents to authorities?

I can see how throughout the years folks have been giving this space a break. Politics, religion, maths and ideology. If not for some credible news I may give it a laps myself.

I threw maths in there just for kicks. Looking at the bell curve and all.

No sweat Bobby. It doesn't matter. I figure it like this, If you talk down to people all the time eventually you forget who you put down and then one day the ambulance will come and ask where is that mad man.. By then they too will have forgotten and by then it really does not matter.

Wait til this smacking ban has kicked in for a few years and you're getting abused yourself by these ill-disciplined kids with no respect or fear of a clip round the earole.

I don't think you are a peado, although someone did mention your support for the IRA on here the other day, so although you abhor the 'weak and dependant' being smacked you have no problem with them being bombed maimed and killed at shopping malls.

Someone mentioned it, eh? And that makes it true, does it? If I "mention" that you murder hitchhikers would that make it true? You've been on this forum long enough to know that wild accusations are bandied about all the time.

I mentioned in a thread that in the distant past I, like almost every Irish person, thought the IRA were the good guys. I, in the distant past and like most Irish people, fairly quickly found out they were not. Still, unlike the protestant paramilitaries, they never demeaned themselves by going into a coalition withthe Tory party.

    Absolutely.

I couldn't imagine hitting a child, especially my own.

You've simply failed as a parent if you need to assault them.

There is a difference between discipline and assault. There needs to be a rule of thumb type clause?

Harsh word assault and to try and categorise those who do beat and mentally scar kids with those that merely discipline on an unregular level.

And Its ok to risk orphaning your kid whilst riding up and down the most dangerous roads in the world on a pink Scoopy whilst playing AIDS roulette with Nigerian hookers?

    You Irish fuckers are backward

Brain damage ? So you got your brain damage from a whack on the ass ? How many times have been in the check out lane at a store and seen a little kid just need a good whack on the ass. Really gets their attention.

Or you could think 'Their guardian/parent needs some sort of course in parenting'.

Us non child-abusers might think of it like that.

One of the things the Thais do have right imho is
the way they bring up their youth to respect them. And they are hit at school. Compare the Thai kids you see here with the cheeky little grunts back in the UK nowadays.

Broken Britain has turned into a society of fucking victims with all this PC and Nanny State bollocks.

Bullying for example, that's what growing up is about, finding out where you are in the school hierarchy. Toughens you up.

Those peados and their social workers who point out they were abused as kids so continued the circle.

The need to find alternative names for kids ie ADHD, ADD, ADSD, autism and whatever. What's wrong with spastics and little bastards?

Bring back National Service for the fuckers. The UK has gone to the dogs
