Ok, this is something I don't understand - why allow PRs to vote! Ridiculous. Citizens yes. Anyone else no.

It may not be completely legal but the rules were changed because of mainly two things - the hundreds of thousands, close to a million Kiwis flooding Australia compared to a trickle going the other way. Kiwis used to totally bludge the system, it was a joke, whatever the reasons. Changes had to be made.
Second - people using NZ to get PR stats and then bugger off to Aus. We have Brazilian friends who intend to do just that and avail themselves to a free superior education etc...

It ain't all stats that speak volumes.

Aside from that, NZ isn't a bd place to be at all . . . except the weather and accent.

Well then or now it was always a fallacy based on stereotypes. Kiwis in Aust have always been net positive contributors to the economy.

Yet it isn't a scale that equates as in apples to apples . . . and I admit to not having the relevant stats on how much Kiwis cost (annually since the ass migration began) the country as opposed to how much they added to government coffers and how this would be calculated anyway. Taxes paid versus benefits received? Unemployment created by having close to a million people entering the country. Aussies becoming disadvantaged and being misplaced . . .

It has became quite common to send crims back to their country of origin, once they have completed their sentence.

I think Australia however will take a sympathetic stance to NZ in the case of that reptile Tarrant.

My best guess is that he will be sent back to Oz to be locked up until he expires.

He will wake up at least twenty thousand times alone, in his tiny cell.
    I hope he suffers

i doubt if he will suffer, he has been a prisoner of his obsessions for the past few years and now he will be a prisoner of the state. he considers himself a martyr, serving the cause. he will be fed and watered and his health will be taken care of thanks to the state. no worries for him.

a more fitting punishment would have been to put him in a room every week for a few hours with a few of the less forgiving members of the relatives of the dead and let them have their way with him. that would give him something to dwell on in his solitude every day.

pussy type punishments as favoured by western liberal cultures only encourage more crime.

the americans know how to deal with these types. have a look at the conditions inside their supermax prisons. now that is what incarceration means.

What is your opinion about victim impact statements?

I'm always very wary of their usefulness as it too often goes awry . . . like this time as well when the murderer was laughing at some people's grief . . . it just seems so fraught with potential damage, though I do understand how it can be cathartic if it goes as planned.

So America has less domestic terrorism or crime compared to western liberal countries then?

    care to check that?

    As regards the sentencing?

Basically zero I think in that case. But I think it's just more designed to give the victims a voice in the matter so important from that perspective.

Yep I can see that too.

I don't disagree but it's quite telling that in this particular case he actually applied to be sentenced in absentia and I read that as the coward being scared of facing the victims famlies.

    ah i see.

an extremist who kills 50+ and had planned on killing many more suddenly disavows his beliefs and is now to be believed.

Dunno, maybe not, but definitely more than a proven liar on a forum who as per usual is opining without really knowing what he's talking about so...
