But yes, it does appear to be the case that religious texts are often used in ways the He did not intend when He, through the Holy Spirit, guided the writing of His tenets.

Slight sleight of wording there, insofar as you're relying on an Americanism, vs the corect English usage of the rest of the English-speaking world. So, it's the American dialect that uses the "s" for the plural.
