Poland Seals Deal To Buy LNG From U.S.

    RFE reporting:

Poland Seals Deal To Buy LNG From U.S. To Ease Dependence On Moscow
17 October 2018Poland's state-run gas company says it has sealed a 20-year deal to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States in a bid to reduce its dependence on Russian supplies.

"Today we can fulfill our efforts to improve the sovereignty, security, and competitiveness of our gas sector," Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told reporters in Warsaw on October 17.

Morawiecki said the contract will help reduce Poland's reliance on Russia's state-owned energy giant Gazprom.

U.S. Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher told the media the deal was part of an initiative by the Trump administration to establish the United States as the "world's largest LNG exporter."

The contract between the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) and U.S.-based Venture Global LNG will provide Poland annually with up to 2 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year, a PGNiG statement said.

The quantity is the equivalent of 2.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

A value for the deal, initially agreed in June, was not provided.

The contract will come into full force in 2022, when Poland's current agreement with Gazprom for an annual 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas is set to conclude.

Poland currently relies on Russia for about two-thirds of its gas.

Domestic consumption represents a quarter of the Polish market.

The move comes a day after PGNiG filed a complaint with the European Union's top court against a deal by the European Commission to settle an antitrust case against Gazprom.

The deal, reached in May, allowed Gazprom to avoid billions of dollars in fines after Poland claimed it had abused its dominant position as a gas provider in their region.

    Perhaps, something important forgotten?

Poland cuts dependence on Russian oil but at a cost: report

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland’s imports of Russian oil last year fell to their lowest level since 2005, a central bank report published on Tuesday showed, though Warsaw’s bid to diversify its energy imports also meant paying higher prices.

Russian oil accounted for 76 percent of all oil purchases, down from 96 percent in 2012, as state-run refiners PKN Orlen and Lotos increased their purchases of oil from sources other than Russia.

PKN Orlen signed a long-term agreement on regular oil supplies with Saudi Aramco in 2016 and since then both PKN and Lotos have also purchased oil from Iran and the United States.

But Poland is paying a price for its diversification. While the cost of Russian crude in December averaged $59.70 per barrel, Kazakh oil was $60.20 and U.S. oil $65.60 a barrel, the report said.

^Wondering why the RF is in annual immigration figures just the second one behind US entries (of the Mexicans, Guatemalas, you name it). The new immigration entries include also the new "annexed" Crimea.

Perhaps now, when the new Un-Russian oil will flow happily into the Poland, the many of the hundreds thousands of Polish people will happily return from UK back to their homeland?

Or will they now be kicked off anyway...

Let's hope Poland doesn't need a deal from the IMF ... like Ukraine..

Ukraine government hikes gas prices by 25% as part of IMF deal.

^Putin to Poroshenko: Don’t be like Georgia’s Saakashvili, who lost vast territories
    Published time: 18 Oct, 2018

Ukraine pursues the same policy against its own people that cost Georgia to lose territory after then-leader Mikhail Saakashvili’s war on Ossetia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, warning Kiev not to go down the same road.

“The Ukrainian authorities are not just leading the situation into a deadlock, they are pursuing an anti-state and anti-national policy,” the Russian leader said, speaking at the Valdai Club plenary session in the Russian southern city of Sochi. He then compared Kiev’s actions to the policy of Saakashvili, whose military forces attacked the self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia back in 2008.

“These criminal actions resulted in Georgia losing control over vast parts of its territory,” Putin said, adding that it was the result of Saakashvili’s policy. The 2008 Georgian offensive prompted Russia to launch a “peace enforcement” operation against Georgia. The conflict ended up with South Ossetia and another Georgian region –Abkhazia– declaring independence from Georgia, which de-facto lost control over both territories.

Like Saakashvili, the current Ukrainian government still strives to resolve the ongoing Ukrainian conflict by force instead of fulfilling the Minsk Agreements, Putin said, adding that “it has become clear for everyone” that Kiev “does not abide by the agreements and has no intention to do so.”

The Russian leader then warned the Ukrainian authorities against “following in Saakashvili’s footsteps” and said that he hopes it does not come to the same sort of scenario. Putin added that “assassinating … people’s representatives” in the self-proclaimed Donbass republics is a “bad way” to seek peace with these regions. He apparently was referring to the recent murder of the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Aleksandr Zakharchenko, which local authorities blamed on the Ukrainian security service, the SBU.

Russia is very much interested in restoring normal relations with Ukraine, Putin stressed. However, Kiev continues to “trade only Russophobia and anti-Russian sentiments” while the Ukrainian economy crumbles, being constantly “rocked by internal political crises,” he added.

Wondering who is such a dictator? Or was it meant "dictators"?

Wants to rebuild the Iron Curtain?

It is the one whos businesses and crucial supplies are tried to be cut off?
It is the one who is following all the treaties signed in a good trust but withdrawn by others?
It is the one whos staff is kicked off from the trustful "allies" on a short notice?
It is the one who some are afraid to speak to unless being ostracized and accused of treason?
It is the one who is demonized and called ugly names even from high official representants of his "allies"?
It is the one who is encircled by huge armies of his "allies"? Even if it's a breach of the former treaties?

And despite of this, it is the one who, after all, still offering dialogs and cooperation?
