North Korea ready to walk away from Trump summit.

Turns out things might not be as cut and dried as Trump thinks.

North Korea ready to walk away from Trump summit if forced to give up nukes.
North Korea says the country has no interest in a summit with the United States if it is to be a "one-sided" affair where it is pressured to give up its nuclear weapons.

The statement by First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan on Wednesday came hours after the North abruptly cancelled a high-level meeting with South Korea and threatened to do the same with a planned summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump next month.

The minister criticised recent comments by Mr Trump's top security adviser, John Bolton, and other US officials who had been talking about how the North should follow the "Libyan model" of nuclear disarmament and provide a, "complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement".

He also criticised other US comments that the North should completely abandon not only its nuclear weapons and missiles but also its biological and chemical weapons.

"We will appropriately respond to the Trump administration if it approaches the North Korea-US summit meeting with a truthful intent to improve relations," he said.

"But we are no longer interested in a negotiation that will be all about driving us into a corner and making a one-sided demand for us to give up our nukes and this would force us to reconsider whether we would accept the North Korea-US summit meeting."

Some analysts said bringing up Libya, which dismantled its rudimentary nuclear program in the 2000s in exchange for sanctions relief, would risk derailing any progress in negotiations with the North.

The North Korean leader took power weeks after former Libyan leader Moamar Gaddafi's gruesome death at the hands of rebel forces amid a popular uprising in October, 2011.

The North has frequently used Mr Gaddafi's death to justify its own nuclear development in the face of perceived US threats.

As far as Fat Boy is concerned the "Libyan Model" is that Qaddafi is dead . Because he didn't have nukes.

Strange for the Americans to reference Libya, considering their major backstab and the ensuing chaos that a couple of nukes would have deterred.

Let the fat boy destroy everything (like Saddam destroyed) and then tells to the world: "he doesn't do enough" (like Saddam didn't), declares no-fly zones, another sanctions, another military drill at the gates, etc.
And then he says: "Hooo nouws?"

    Very politely.

    N. Korea says it's still ready to talk to US 'at any time, in any way'

"Kim has made the “utmost efforts” to hold a summit with Trump, said the North Korean first vice minister for foreign affairs, Kim Kye-gwan, according to the state news agency KCNA. The meeting between two leaders was scheduled for June 12 in Singapore.

Pyongyang is “still willing to resolve issues with the United States,” the official said, holding onto the hope that the meeting could still be rescheduled.

Our goal and will to do everything for peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and mankind remains unchanged, and we are always willing to give time and opportunity to the US side with an open mind,” Kim Kye-gwan said. “We reiterate to the US that there is a willingness to sit down at any time, in any way, to solve the problem.”

Trump says he's having 'very productive talks' with N. Korea on reinstating summit
    Published time: 26 May, 2018

US President Donald Trump says "very productive talks" are underway with North Korea on holding the June 12 summit in Singapore. Talks on reinstating the meeting came within 24 hours of Trump's previously abrupt cancellation.

In a tweet, Trump confirmed that if the elusive meetup with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un does happen, it will likely remain at the earlier scheduled date and place: on June 12 in Singapore.

The potentially unprecedented meeting, a first-ever between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader, has been in the making for months. Trump had been erratic in his statements about the summit during the period, taking his time in narrowing down the time and place, and threatening to cancel or walk out of the meeting if he does not get his way. In the end, he called it off on Thursday, after the North Korean vice-minister of foreign affairs took issue with US Vice President Pence's threats of a "Libyan scenario" for Pyongyang: what started as a description of how the US helped Libya get rid of its nuke research in 2003, ultimately also came to include the 2011 overthrow and murder of Muammar Gaddafi.
