Historic meeting between North & South Korea leaders kicks off

(perhaps not so much important as Cosby):

Historic meeting between North & South Korea leaders kicks off

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shakes hands with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, April 27, 2018

The much-awaited summit between Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in has begun in the "truce village" of Panmunjom. It is the first time the leaders of the two nations sat down for talks in over a decade.
The first inter-Korean summit since 2007, when Kim's late father Kim Il-sung met then-South Korean leader Roh Moo-hyun, is drawing all the eyes, coming ahead of the highly anticipated meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump.

North Korea's nuclear program, whose rapid advancement triggered belligerent threats from the US President, ramping up tensions in the peninsula to the boiling point in late 2017, is expected to dominate the Friday meeting, which is taking place less than a week after Pyongyang announced a freeze of all nuclear and missile exercises and a closure of a major test site.

So, who thinks that Donald is not a good mediator?

From ‘little rocket man’ to ‘very honorable’: Trump says he wants to meet Kim 'as soon as possible’

US President Donald Trump has praised North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and said he wants a meeting with him “as soon as possible.” Trump also called Kim “very honorable.”
“We have been told directly that they would like to have the meeting as soon as possible, and we think that’s a great thing for the world,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron at the White House.

“We’re having ... very good discussions. Kim Jong Un, he really has been very open and I think very honorable from everything we’re seeing.”

The comments mark a distinct change in rhetoric from Trump, who referred to Kim as “little rocket man” on Twitter last year.

Read somewhere there have been ovef 500 such meetings. Granted, this is first one a Kim has participated and set foot in the south but I am sceptical this one will end well.

Nice meeting but let's not forget the 2 meeting do not have the final say. That lays in the lap of Cnina and the US.

He's held out (and put his country through hell) to get nuclear weapons, for him and for the many brainwashed citizens that idolise him it's a victory, and the reality is he can now negotiate from a position of strength.

Cue inevitable derailment by the US insisting that NK must now destroy their nukes. I see the nationalist Right in Japan are going for an aggressive military policy (in response?) that the US is not criticizing, and quite possibly cultivating now that SK will be potentially less profitable for US defense contractors.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Any expert worth his salt will tell you that Kim's dream is to get his photo around the world with baldy orange cunto, and being taken seriously by the Americans, instead of being written off as another irrelevant, tinpot dictator.

I'd say his plan is going very well.

Wouldn't have happened under Obama or Bush, now the US actually have a president fat boy is worried about progress is being made in a quite dramatic way. All praise The Don. Of course his detractors here on TD will say that NK current attitude and willingness to negotiate is nothing to do with The Don.

It has more to do with the collapse of NK's nuclear test site below MT Mantap. Kim hasn't much left to negotiate with.

I suggest the words and actions by the countries on Northern and Western borders have been taken aboard, adapted to the DPRK requirements and will be amalgamated to it's Southern neighbours requirements.

The golden hasbeen and his vassals will be offered one choice, my way or the highway. The package will be publicised prior to the on/off again, depending on which twitch is the most acceptable to the twichers algos, drive through meeting. The golden hasbeen will want not to go down as the man who threw away such a chance, or his Nobel Prize will be on somebody else's mantelpiece.

I read the DPRK announcement that the DPRK will join, the global community in "working to rid the world of these evil weapons. As the "global community' has been calling for this for decades with no success, it doesn't bode well for a swift ending to global denuclearisation.

While not a popular opinion I think a karmic reset for the tragic peninsula could be to allow dogs to eat all the dog eating Koreans and make the irradiated peninsula a neutral no go area for a century allowing Japan US China NAd Russia to back off. The non dog eaters natives could be allowed UN passports to settle anywhere gangnam style if the promise to stop eating man's best friend

I may be barking up the wrong tree but seldom met a dog who was a threat to world peace, If kim and Trump got rabies I'm pretty sure no great loss and the world probably a safer place.

We see hw many kids have been droned in Syria Yemen etc Kim and Trump should be on the UN most wanted list

When Kim first came on the scene with his pudding basin haircut I thought him a fool, as did many others, but now I see he had a plan all along. First to build a deterrent against an aggressor who he has seen attacking other countries based on lies.

With that deterrent now in place to his satisfaction it is now time to forge a proper peace with the south.

Not to unify the peninsula under one government but to open up trade and cross border movement which will be popular in both north and south for there are many families that have been split by the demarcation zone and both have resources the other needs.

Should there be a proper peace treaty signed they will no longer be enemies and all the expensive military hardware the US has sold to the south will be redundant nor will there be a need for US bases in the south or the control that these exert over the south.

So the US has a problem for not only will they lose what control they have over both north and south, if the south wants to trade with the north they will have to rethink their sanctions. Are they willing to do this or will they attempt to make demands on the north in the hope they can prevent an ongoing peace process and trade?

Should the US make demands and even threats I suspect Kim will ignore them but is Moon in a position to do the same?

I has been commented that it has cost the north dearly to get to this stage but it has also cost the south as the country is now in considerable debt as are the people.

We await the results of the ongoing talks.

All those meetings were conducted by who? And what agenda they had?

This meeting is about re-unification. All the respect for SK president who is surely under a strong pressure.

His very good start what he had done during their Olympics.

How helpful was the VP with his beatific face and with his Japanese vassal on hand to ease the situation?

Her body language suggests an attempt to recognise the existence and talk to the Korean lady. The Korean lady wisely decided not to say anything, just keep the illusion of acceptance rather than telling here what a tramps she and her family are.

2 Koreas agree on complete denuclearization of Korean Peninsula

"(ATTN: ADDS more info from 3rd para)

SEOUL, April 27 (Yonhap) -- South and North Korea agreed Friday that they will work together to realize a "complete" denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The agreement was part of a joint declaration issued after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held a historic summit earlier in the day at the truce village of Panmunjom.

"South and North Korea affirmed their shared objective of achieving a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through complete denuclearization," said the declaration signed by the leaders of the two Koreas.

They shared the view that the recent steps that the North has taken are "very meaningful" and "important" for denuclearization efforts and agreed to do their respective part on that matter, the declaration said.

The two Koreas also agreed to induce support and cooperation from the international community for the sake of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The agreement on the nuclear issue comes as North Korea and the United States are expected to hold an unprecedented summit either in May or early June. Denuclearization will likely top the agenda during the talks between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The U.S. and South Korea have demanded the North give up its nuclear weapons in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner. The North recently suggested "phased and synchronized" measures for denuclearization.

The North has conducted six nuclear tests since 2006, the last and most powerful coming in September last year. In November, the North declared the completion of its nuclear armament."

(LEAD) 2 Koreas agree on complete denuclearization of Korean Peninsula

    RT adds more:

New era, no more war: Two Koreas agree on complete denuclearization

“There will be no more war on the Korean peninsula, and a new age of peace has opened,"

The two sides also agreed to hold multi-party talks, involving the US and China, in their push for a full-scale truce. Pyongyang and Seoul are also to have high-level military talks in May.

In an ambitious statement after the signing ceremony, Kim said he hopes that the two Koreas will reunite. The states separated after the WWII and have remained hostile since the Korean War ended with an armistice, rather than a peace treaty, in 1953.

“Terminating the current state of the truce and establishing a firm peace regime is a historic task that [the two Koreas] can no longer delay," the leaders pointed out.

    https://www.rt.com/news/425279-koreas-peace-denuclearization-talks/

The headlines are very premature, the article suggest they have similar aspirations nothing more. Many other countries would like complete denuclearization.

The RT link also has a video of the DPRK President stepping over the border step ,on the ROK's president's invitation. A few moment of conversation and then the DPRK President inviting the ROK President to step into DPRK, which he does with a smile. Good body language from them both.

The headlines are very premature, the article suggest they have similar aspirations nothing more. Many other countries profess they would like denuclearization.

It's less of a growing economy than another bubble waiting to burst.

As to Kim reining in his aggressive behaviour and being nice to Korea, if it took an imbecile in the Whitehouse to convince him he'd get what he wants, then good luck. If you are under the delusional impression that the US is the only country that's applied sanctions against the DPRK in recent years, you need to educate yourself.

As for your other drivel, the only chance of Kim launching a nuke would have been if the imbecile had started it; being a dopey fucker and surrounding himself with warmongerers like Bolton and Pompeo makes the likelihood of further military incursions MORE likely, not less.
