Israeli army kills 17 Palestinians in Gaza protests

More than 1,400 others wounded by Israeli forces during march calling for return of Palestinian refugees to their lands. At least 16 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded by Israeli forces in Gaza, Palestinian medics have said, as protesters kicked off a planned six-week demonstration demanding the right of return for refugees.

Israel’s military said 17,000 Palestinians were “rioting” in six locations in the Gaza strip on Friday, rolling burning tires at the security fence and its troops, which it said responded “with riot dispersal means and firing towards main instigators”.

On Friday night, the UN secretary general, António Guterres, called for an independent investigation into deadly clashes as the Palestinian ambassador, Riyad Mansour, voiced his disappointment that the security council did not condemn what he called a “heinous massacre” of peaceful demonstrators.

The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, said in a statement that Israel was responsible for the violence and declared Saturday a national day of mourning. The Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said “the international community must not be deceived” by what he called “a well-organised and violent terror-gathering” under the banner of a peaceful march.https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/...100034136.html

Security Council Members Condemn Killing of Palestinian Civilians in Clashes at Israel-Gaza Border after Peaceful Protest Turned Violent
    30 March 2018

The Security Council members, in an emergency meeting tonight, condemned the killing of civilians in Gaza during a peaceful protest that had erupted in violence.

Tayé-Brook Zerihoun, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, briefing the Council on the situation, said that what had begun early in the day as a demonstration had devolved into violence at several locations across Gaza, resulting in more than 15 deaths and 1,000 injuries of civilians, with some reportedly coming from live ammunition that had been used by the Israeli security forces.

The demonstration had been meant to begin six weeks of peaceful protests leading up to the commemoration of Al-Nakba, marking 70 years of the expulsion of 800,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands.

“The developments in Gaza today are again a painful reminder of the consequences of a missing peace between Israel and Palestine and the need to step up our efforts in support of a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” he said, strongly urging Palestinians, Israelis and the international community to take concrete measures to reverse the current course of the conflict and advance the goal of a just and sustainable peace based on the two-State solution.

Following the briefing, Council members expressed grave concern about the possibility of violence spiralling out of control, with many calling for an investigation and for perpetrators to be held accountable.

The meeting began at 7:42 p.m. and ended at 8:48 p.m.

The Israelis fired tanks at a group of people too, according to a BBC report I read yesterday. Can't find the BBC article now unfortunately.

In the same way that power corrupts, the Israelis have become way too big for their boots.

The ONLY way towards a resolution is for Israel to get the hell out of occupied lands and stop interfereing in a state that is not Israel.
THAT'S what the international community should be insisting on.
BDS, boycott, divest, sanctions. Hit the Israelis in the wallet.
And hitting the US too, while it continues to condone all these illegal and inhumane Israeli actions.

UK Muslim group pans Jewish board's tweet on Gaza killings
    MEE staff
    Saturday 31 March 2018 22:24 UTC
Last update: Sunday 1 April 2018 8:24 UTC

Letter comes against not only Middle East backdrop but also one of dispute that is roiling British politics

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) challenged the Board of Deputies of British Jews on Saturday over its tweeted response to Israel's killing of at least 15 Palestinian protesters and wounding hundreds in the Gaza Strip on Friday.

The board's tweet read: "Alarming developments at Gaza border as Hamas once again using its civilians - inc children - as pawns. We call for calm & a return to negotiating table, resulting in a secure, Jewish & democratic Israel alongside a viable & vibrant Palestinian state."

MAB president Dr Anas Altikriti responded in an open letter, saying in part: "No Israeli, soldier or civilian, was ever under threat, let alone harmed. Yet as all the live TV coverage, pictures and clips clearly demonstrate, the Israeli forces and its snipers saw fit to take pot shots into the civilian crowd who were marching peacefully."

Altikriti went on to say that the board's tweet portrayed the "victim as the aggressor," appeared to justify the "killing of unarmed civilians" and inaccurately claimed that Hamas had organized the event, rather than Palestinian people.

In reference to the "negotiating table" mentioned in the tweet, Altikriti outlined the "frustration of millions of Palestinians who for 50 years of unfulfilled UN resolutions condemning the Israeli occupation, the Separation Wall, the illegal settlements, the systematic expulsion of Palestinians the illegal annexation of Jerusalem and much more, were met with a callous decision by the US President to decide on Jerusalem with one fell swoop, proving the futility, indeed wastefulness of those negotiation".

On 25 March, the Board of Deputies of British Jews released a statement headed "Enough Is Enough" and accusing Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn of siding with anti-Semites against Jewish people in the UK and calling for a demonstration that took place the following day outside parliament in London.

Corbyn had days earlier been forced to explain a comment he made on social media in 2012, which appeared under an image of an allegedly anti-Semitic mural in east London.

Corbyn had days earlier been forced to explain a comment he made on social media in 2012, which appeared under an image of an allegedly anti-Semitic mural in east London.

The mural depicted businessmen, some of whom the artist said were Jewish, counting money on a board game that is balanced on the backs of naked, hunched-over men.

Corbyn initially said he regretted not looking more closely at the image, which he called "deeply disturbing" and expressed "sincere regret," but on 25 March he was forced to go further and issue a broader statement condemning anti-Semitism and acknowledging its existence in the Labour Party.

He said: "Labour is an anti-racist party and I utterly condemn anti-Semitism, which is why as leader of the Labour Party I want to be clear that I will not tolerate any form of anti-Semitism that exists in and around our movement.

"We must stamp this out from our party and movement. We recognise that anti-Semitism has occurred in pockets within the Labour Party, causing pain and hurt to our Jewish community in the Labour Party and the rest of the country. I am sincerely sorry for the pain which has been caused," he said.

Some Corbyn supporters told Middle East Eye that they disagreed with their party leader over his acknowledgement of anti-Semitism within the party, and said he was being attacked by right-wing Labour members and Jewish groups who opposed his support for Palestinian rights.

Avi Shlaim, a professor of international relations and member of Jewish Voice for Labour, which was founded in 2017 to support Palestinian rights, told MEE: "I don't agree with Jeremy Corbyn about pockets of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. I think anti-Semitism is much less of a problem on the British left than the British right.

"I think the real issue in the Labour Party for Jeremy Corbyn is that right-wing Jews in the Labour Party and outside the party [object to the fact] that Jeremy Corbyn is a consistent supporter of Palestinian rights."

The killing and wounding by Israeli forces of civilians demonstrating for Palestinian rights in Gaza is appalling.
The UK Government must make its voice heard on the urgency of a genuine settlement for peace and justice.

The two cases (spy and Israel) bear similarity: They both are sooo obvious BS. However, the power-that-be are so confident that they will not be accused of BS-ing. At least publicly. Even the UN are very careful to speak out openly.

    How far it can go?

On the other hand - and we see it here - it's sad that they are some apologists of those atrocities. Quite hapless...

And they're only 2.1% of our population. Where's the concern in the racial quota system there? I know, they're smarter and work harder than the rest of us. Just ask them, they'll tell you.

The Myth of American Meritocracy | Ron Unz - Writings and Perspectives

This overrepresentation of Jews is really quite extraordinary, since the group currently constitutes just 2.1 percent of the general population and about 1.8 percent of college-age Americans.52 Thus, although Asian-American high school graduates each year outnumber their Jewish classmates nearly three-to-one, American Jews are far more numerous at Harvard and throughout the Ivy League. Both groups are highly urbanized, generally affluent, and geographically concentrated within a few states, so the “diversity” factors considered above would hardly seem to apply; yet Jews seem to fare much better at the admissions office.

According to an Israeli spokesman, the farmer could be seen covertly tapping out a jihadi message in morse code on a cows' udder. Security forces were not fooled by the subterfuge of milk being expressed into a bucket.

Their families too. Fuck it anyone who has ever met them also, they probably infected them with their terrorism.

    go jooz go!

wonderful people, wonderful country. they turned a desert populated for a thousand years by lazy feckless ragheads into a strong modern democracy within a generation.

the palestinian puppets of gaza, obscenely manipulated by hamas, hezbollah and iran (with vocal support from naive socialists worldwide) have been fed hate and kept in penury in order to display their miserable victimhood to a blinkered world and gain support for the c*nts of hamas et al.

reviled by other arabs, the poor palestinians never stood a chance.

only with the help of more moderate islamic influences and their money, can the palestinians be dragged out of the mire they find themselves in and develop into a modernised society, with decent governance and proper infrastructure, and trading profitably with its neighbours and the world.

israel is not going away, and the sooner the palestinians come to realise this and reject their imposed victimhood, the better.

demos at the border? of course people were going to get killed, dont they ever learn. blame hamas, not israel.
