Most of the time I only wish I could understand Hawking's theories. This is my favorite quote of his. RIP

Except we can't. We have little more understanding of the universe than a nest of ants has of the world beyond its patch of dirt.

    Rubbish.
You are right that humanity does not understand all, but don't judge all of humanity's knowledge by your own limited knowledge.

We don't even know if there's life out there. There might be billions of other human-populated planets. Or none. We don't have a clue

A great mind. Also it shows that sometimes the mind has control over the body. He lived to be 76 years old. Yet he was told by doctors that he would not live to finish his education with his disease. He was the greatest theoretical physicist of our time.

True that there are few who can really understand his contribution to mankinds knwledge.

Being a very reasonable person I did at one time question if indeed I was fault? I quickly discarded this ridiculous notion, not without good reason I might well add!!
Did he ever discover or say anything that can actually be factually checked?

Stephen Hawking was certainly a great physicist probably the greatest since Richard Feinman.

What an example to us all , even had he never done science to survive and be a great physicist

Yesterday I dribbled here opened a couple of Leos , tooted a clarinet and did a bike ride, hardly noteworthy and I have full use of my ltd faculties.

Don't wish to Bohr think he'll be remebered like Gale, Avicenna, CopernicusNewton Liebniz, Einstein,Schroedinger and Hoyle as person who changed our view of reality .

Of course theory will evolve but Hawking will always be fondly recalled.

I saw a tv show with UK piss taker Jimmy Carr who'd written a spoof letter and the great reply he got from Hawking.
Here's the link which gives you the measure of his humanity.

    Except we can.

We have infinitely more knowledge than a nest of ants.

The human species has become the lens through which the universe can understand itself.

Which makes us the most important thing in the universe, as far as we know.

Yet we may be in the bottom 1% of intelligent life forms in the universe. Like us, ants are the cleverest thing they know. Like us, they have no knowledge of more intelligent life forms.

I used to torture ants when I was a kid.

I did the basic stuff like magnifying glasses but I also employed more cruel methods which included using a verruca acid dropper to drop verruca acid on them. It would dry almost instantly into a white powdery crystal and the ant would be trapped waving its little front legs (arms?) at me as I then brought the smoking magnifying glass focus spot slowly towards the ant...

So ants are not cleverest thing that ants know about because ants know about me.

I remember Ricky Gervais accusing hawkings of being pretentious for speaking in an American accent when he came from Essex

Thoughts and prayers. This would never have happened if he'd had a gun. All theoretical physicists should be routinely armed.

I hope it wasn't too traumatic for you. Has Hawking's family phoned you yet to console you on your loss?

I would hope that black holes die with him but they won't. He managed to prove the theory of their existence but I doubt it will have much significance for another couple of centuries or so.

I doubt I'll read any of his books or theories, way over my head with little attempt at communicating to the likes of me.

You could try his "A brief history of time"
