HOLIDAY HELL 8 ways to get arrested in Dubai – from brushing up against a man to kissing in public
Year-round sunshine has made Dubai a popular long-haul destination for Brits but many have found themselves at the mercy of country's strict laws
Brushed up against man in a bar
Tourist Jamie Harron hit headlines after he was arrested for touching a man's hip in a Dubai bar.
Cops arrested the 27-year-old from Stirling, Scotland for public indecency in July earlier this year.
Authorities stripped the electrician of his passport and left him penniless after forking out £32,000 in legal fees.
Jamie remains denies indecency and remains adamant it was a 'cultural misunderstanding'.
He was caged for a month for drinking alcohol but could still face an extra three years for the crime.
Mistakenly using fake £20 note
Fellow Scot Billy Barclay faced a year in a hellish Dubai prison after mistakenly using a fake £20 on his dream holiday.
Police accused the 31-year-old plasterer of passing on fake money during a trip with his wife and two kids to the United Arab Emirates last year.
The note had set off a counterfeit scanner which led the dad-of-two being hauled into the local police station.
Cops quizzed Billy, from Edinburgh, for 12 hours while officers searched the family's hotel room.
He was later released and told he would not face any charges.

Increasingly Brits have found themselves in a spot of bother with the country's strict customsSwearing in road rage incident
Brit Jamil Ahmad, 23, had a run in with the law after flicking the V during a road-rage incident.
The IT consultant was on a romantic getaway with his wife, when he swore at a driver he claimed had dangerous cut him up.
Cops heard of the incident and arrested Ahmad on grounds of "public obscenity".
His wife was forced to fly back to Leicester while Ahmad faces a six month prison sentence.
Sharing message about buying blankets for refugees
Warmhearted Scott Richards was detained for three weeks in Dubai after sharing a charity Facebook post.
The dad-of-two shared the post which promoted a drive to buy blankets for refugees in Afghanistan while holidaying in the UAE.
He was arrested under laws that ban donations or advertising of charities that are not registered in the country.
Richards was released on bail before prosecutors decided to drop the case last year.
Couple kissing and holding hands in public
Back in 2010 a British couple made headlines around the world after they were arrested for smooching in public.
Locals dubbed the PDA as a violation of the country's decency laws after kissing on the mouth in a restaurant.
Ayman Najafi, 24 and Charlotte Adams, 25 appealed their conviction stating it was a mere peck on the cheek.
The pair lost their appeal and were sentenced to a month in jail before being deported.

The Foreign Office has even warned hoidaymakers to take care when taking snaps of buildings in the UAESex on the beach
Unsurprisingly, Dubai cops decided came down hard on a British couple who had sex on a beach.
Michelle Palmer, 36, had been living in country for over two years before she was caught romping with fellow Brit Vince Acors, 34, on Jumeirah Beach.
They were arrested, charged and later caged for violating indecent behaviour laws and sex outside of marriage.
On top of the prison sentence the pair were handed a 1,000 dirham (approx £200) fine and were deported.
Having a runny nose
It appears you do not even need to step foot in the country to be at the mercy of Arab police chiefs.
Brit property investor Caren Harmon was up against it when Emirates cabin crew accused her of taking cocaine on her flight from London to Johannesburg.
She was detained at Dubai airport where she was interrogated for three hours.
The 43-year-old claimed she was made to sign an Arabic form before being released.
Unpaid debt
The global hunt for a woman who failed to pay an eight-year-old security cheque showcases the lengths the country will go to by means of punishment.
Police chiefs drew upon international police agencies in their quest to find the unidentified Brit who defaulted on her debt.
They tracked her down in Italy where she was questioned and later maintained under house arrest.
Italian authorities are currently deciding whether to allow a formal extradition trial.
The UAE was slammed for abusing world police organisation Interpol as the most of the world fails to treat defaulting as a crime.
EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE If you're planning a trip to Dubai, you need to know this about their new luggage rules
Brits are proportionately more likely to be arrested in the United Arab Emirates than in any other country, the Foreign Office claims.
Official advice urges Brits to familiarise themselves with local laws and customs on drugs, booze and dress before visiting the Arab country.
It also warns holidaymakers to be weary when taking snaps of government buildings and landmarks or feel the long-arm of the law.
Now this isn't quite accurate reporting.Quote:

They were as pissed as farts after Friday brunch and were shagging on the beach in public view. A copper came along and told them to get dressed and go home. After he left, they carried on. When he came back and told them off, she threw a shoe at him, the stupid bitch.
They fucking asked for it, they could have just walked away and finished their drunken shag in a hotel room or apartment.
Three months in chokey, if he plays his cards right, he'll have an arse like Wookey Hole by the time he comes out. I bet Buttplug will be as jealous as fuck.

A Scottish man has been sentenced to three months in jail for touching a man's hip in a Dubai bar.
Jamie Harron, from Stirling, was arrested in July and charged with public indecency.
He claimed he had simply been trying to avoid spilling his drink when he touched the man.
The 27-year-old businessman had already been sentenced to a month in jail for drinking beer and still faces further court proceedings.
The businessman who made the complaint against Mr Harron later withdrew it, but prosecutors in Dubai continued with the case.
News of the three-month sentence was released by campaign group Detained in Dubai, which has been supporting Mr Herron.
The group said lawyers acting for the Scot would appeal.
Mr Harron, who worked as an electrician in Afghanistan, was on a two-day stopover in the United Arab Emirates at the time of the incident on 15 July.

I think I'd said this before, but....be gentle w/ me
as I'm just nearing the end of the mourning period.
My mate got a bollocking for having a metal tape measure. Read him the riot act they did.
They must presume it is possible to measure someone to death.
Or perhaps it's the shame of everyone knowing your waist measurement means you'll be prepared to hand over the plane.
Prolly went in the same incinerator. I tried (really tried) to convince them to take the knives...."they're good knives," instead of destroying them. They thought it was kinda' funny but insisted they could not do such a thing. Whatevs & What a waste.
I got busted for sex toys in my baggage at Bahrain airport some years back. The look of disgust on the investigating officer's face made the entire affair more than worth it. :p
Wasn't fined...and I could've gone downtown in a month or so and retrieved them,....enchilada. WTF? 55555
They put me on a dildo list or summat. I couldn't get through that airport for years without the hairy eyeballs or the searches. :p
Looks like he's got sent down for three months, that'll be fun for him..

The Briton sentenced to three months in a Dubai jail for allegedly touching a man’s hip in a bar has been freed after just 24 hours, supporters reported Monday.
Jamie Harron, 27, was arrested for public indecency in July after the incident in a crowded nightclub where he claims he was trying to avoid spilling a drink.
He was sentenced to three months in prison on Sunday – but campaigners claim the case against him has now been dropped on orders from the ruler of Dubai.
Campaign group Detained in Dubai, who have been supporting Mr Harron, Monday announced he will now have his passport returned.
A spokesperson said: “Jamie Harron is now on his way to the police station to retrieve his passport, apparently on order from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
“Jamie Harron was called by police that the case has been dismissed and he can pick up his passport and is free to leave.”
Mr Harron, an electrician from Stirling, Scotland, was stripped of his documents after his arrest and has been stranded abroad since.
Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, said Jamie was contacted by police Sunday night to say his sentence had been overturned on order from the Sheikh.
She said: “He nervously went to the police station today to get his passport, but he was worried it was going to be a trap to re-arrest him.
“He is very relieved and in shock as he wasn’t expecting this to happen.
“He has to arrange flights home now, but he should be back in Britain imminently.”
Ms Stirling said the Sheikh ordered the charges to be dropped “because of so much international pressure and the fact [the case] was affecting their tourism”.
Mr Harron, who worked as an electrician in Afghanistan, was on a two-day stopover in the United Arab Emirates at the time of the incident on 15 July.
He previously spent a week in prison following his arrest and was later sentenced to a month in prison and fined 2,000 dirhams (£412).
He has lost his job as an electrician and is now in debt after having to spend more than £32,000 in legal bills and expenses.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We have been in contact with a British man following his arrest in Dubai in July.
“We are providing consular assistance.”

All the international publicity of this case eventually freed him.
I can't imagine Sheikh Mo being too fucking chuffed about getting all the publicity now though, every time some other fucking dickhead gets in a bit of bother, they'll be begging the press to "make an appeal" or the like.
Should have really been delegated to a minion, like that one that used to take $5 mill a year of the Cyclone's profits.
The positive this case had done is to highlight all the other injustice's suffered by foreigners as a result of Sharia law.
Dubai is suffering a major loss of forex because of the publicity this case has generated worldwide.
If Dubai wants to attract future investment to its damaged image then it needs to relax it's laws and have an amnesty.
