Different training, different skills. UK police are mostly concerned with crime, not killing people.

I think we do. However the last 30 years of propagandising that a state must be run like a profit-making company make me feel pretty pessimistic about getting a decent leader. We'll get another Chairman of the Board. The biggest problem with that is that while many people have been convinced that this somehow gives them a say in the country there are in fact very, very few actual shareholders.

BANGKOK — American pop singer Ariana Grande has not canceled her August show in Bangkok in the wake of the suicide bombing Monday that killed 22 people at a concert in Manchester, England, according to the local concert promoter.

Grande’s management team on Wednesday announced the 23-year-old singer had canceled Europe dates on her tour through June 5.

“Due to the tragic events in Manchester the Dangerous Woman tour with Ariana Grande has been suspended until we can further assess the situation and pay our proper respects to those lost,” her management company wrote in a statement. “The London O2 shows this week have been cancelled as well as all shows thru June 5 in Switzerland.”

Gonthorn Piroonratana, a representative of BEC-Tero Entertainment said Thursday morning that the Aug. 17 concert at Bangkok’s Impact Arena had not been canceled.

Good! I don't understand why she should cancel or why so many other bands have cancelled their gigs. As these terrorist scum hate music, fun, joy and partying surely one of the best ways to tell them to stick their hateful joyless ideology up their collective arses is to enjoy hedonistic, musical, and fun partying. Those miserable murderous fuckers want to drag us into darkness. As well as fighting them with bombs and bullets we should also fight them with our music, our art, and our enjoyment of the wonderful world those degenerate murderous filth have turned their backs on.

British Transport Police announce armed officers to patrol trains
The force tasked with making sure transport links are policed has announced it will draft in armed officers to patrol trains.
The British Transport Police (BTP) made the decision to call in reinforcements after the Prime Minister raised the terror threat level following Monday's terror attack in Manchester.
The specialist officers will be posted on trains around the country as part of a nationwide step up in security operations.

I didn't see no soldiers yesterday around Manchester, too busy guarding Whitehall and the politicians.

I did see a lot of overworked Policemen and a few had guns.

People who take the BBC at face value must think it's the end of the world with soldiers on the streets keeping us safe.

One sickening spin off of the bombing and soldiers on the streets is Labour's attempt at using the scenario as an election gimmick.

Going so far as to abuse and harass the armed soldiers on the streets.

"A Labour councillor accused Theresa May of deploying the Army to try and win votes, while an activist harangued police in Downing Street

JEREMY Corbyn’s team were forced to issue a humiliating plea to Labour figures not to peddle sick conspiracy theories blaming Theresa May for the Manchester bombing.
Leader’s ally Shami Chakrabarti took to the airwaves to say “this is not the moment for conspiracy theories” after a slew of Labour councillors and activists questioned the timing and motive of the horrific attack.

Labour councillor Pam Bromley.... “The Manchester atrocity is just a handy excuse to Theresa May “has an excuse to bring in the army just before an election at which she faces potential defeat.”

And the member of hardline Jeremy Corbyn supporters group Momentum branded the PM “a neo fascist” and said the “best way to honour those who suffered” in the Manchester bomb is to vote Labour.

Labour were further humiliated yesterday when a Jeremy Corbyn super fan was led away from Downing Street after abusing the newly stationed troops at the gate....firing a torrent of abuse at soldiers and policemen on the gate despite claiming to be their “friend.”

She raged “The biggest terrorists occupy this place. Theresa May you’re a terrorist, you’re the biggest terrorist.”... “Get rid of this vile, terrorist Government and vote for the politics of peace, vote for the politics of a future.”

    Well said, my beliefs too.

People often think that the "government" or the leader or president or PM is in charge, but far from it, these people are only mouth-pieces, spin-doctors, and the public face representing the real powers behind the facade of government.

People vote in political parties based more on personality popularity ratings and pie in the sky promises rather than deciding what's best for the country.

Consensus government with citizen initiated referenda is a more viable form of government, but the populace, like trained donkeys, respond to the carrot and stick method to be the first past the post, winner take all, damn the consequences, as the election manifestos are forgotten and thrown to the wind, post election.

Laura MacIntyre 15 was seriously injured in the explosion

Eilidh MacLeod 14 died in the blast
The family of a 15-year-old girl from Scotland who is in a critical condition after the Manchester bomb attack have described her as "a fighter".

Laura MacIntyre, from Barra, suffered serious injuries in the blast which killed her friend Eilidh MacLeod.

Her family said she was a strong-willed girl who would continue to battle.

Eilidh's parents had earlier confirmed she was one of 22 people to have died, saying: "Our family is devastated."

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.. expressed her "anger and disbelief"....
Good, finally a politician getting angry

...at leaks to the media in the US of sensitive intelligence about the Manchester attack investigation, which Ms Sturgeon said was "completely unacceptable and cannot be defended".

You can put a flatfoot Bobby on every street corner and a whole army wandering around the streets looking all Rambo like and cool, but the only things that is really effective in defeating terrorists in the end, is superior intelligence gathering, and the willingness and ability to act on it.

Just about every terrorist attack over the past several years has been carried out by somebody on a "watch list"...or "known to authorities". After the fact there are able to "raid" known lairs of these "cells". It's all a bit like scrambling the fighters after the Luftwaffe has bombed the city flat and are now back across the channel on the way home.

The UK of all places should know this. NI had a very substantial police force (armed) in relation to the population, and a large contingent of soldiers backing them up. All very costly, but all it did was make life a bit more inconvenient for the IRA. They still managed to blow a lot of things up and kill a lot of people. In the end the IRA and it's operations became so compromised that the glorious leaders realized that some kind of cease fire and peace deal were the only way to "win" anything. Jeezus, it took three decades and thousands of lives to figure that out.

When the enemy is hiding in plain site within the civilian population; moving freely and fully protected by civil laws, bolstered by an almost suffocating fear in the establishment of being branded racist, or anti-something, nothing much is likely to change.....except the increased costs of providing imaginary "security".

Then the next bomb goes off; more blood in the streets; more cheering from IS, and of course more complaints about how it's really our own fault. I do hope all those poor souls clinging to life in hospital and those grieving the loss of their child know it's their own fault.

Here is a vivid illustration of how Theresa May crippled the Police during her seven years as Home Secretary. The figures and charts are from an official parliamentary document. I have merely added the wobbly red lines to indicate when Theresa May became Home Secretary. It is extremely plain what she did to the police.

Red Line = Theresa May Becomes Home Secretary

Red Line = Theresa May Becomes Homes Secretary

Red Line = Theresa May Becomes Homes Secretary

Red Line = Theresa May Becomes Homes Secretary

    MEANWHILE IN SCOTLAND

This is a matter of choice by Theresa May. In Scotland in exactly the same period, policing was devolved to Holyrood. The SNP faced precisely the same budgetary pressures as the Home Office, but managed to maintain police numbers.

It is also worth noting that we were not comparatively over-policed. England and Wales are now well below the norm.

An hour of discussion on this story, including about police numbers, much of which is by the home secretary.

Manchester attack: Police make tenth arrest

Police have arrested a man in the Moss Side area of Manchester in connection with Monday's attack at the city's Arena venue that killed 22 people.

He is one of eight men - aged between 18 and 38 - now in custody on suspicion of terror offences, Greater Manchester Police have said.
Police believe Manchester-born bomber Salman Abedi, from a family of Libyan origin, acted as part of a network.

In total, 10 people have been arrested in the UK but two were later released.
A 16-year-old boy and a 34-year-old woman were the two released without charge.

It surely will be a good help for all the TV stations to broadcast around the clock the recorded footage, once the bomb is rigged.

The Manc bomber was a frequent visitor to Libya where it was known that he was fighting with Mujahidin groups trying to overthrow Gaddafi. Of course at the time David Cameron's government were happy to turn a blind eye because they had the same agenda. They also wanted Gaddafi out regardless of the wider consequences.

Well, actually you can and quite easily too. Simply embed concrete bollards every five feet or so parallel to the carriage way on the perimeter of the pavement as it abuts the road.

    Simples.

One could paint them pretty colours to make it a bit more festive.

We could call them Crusaders which is nicely butch.
So you're going to put concrete bollards every five feet or so in every area where pedestrians are likely to congregate.

    Wow you genius you.

HELL'S KITCHEN Inside Manchester bomber Salman Abedi’s £75-a-night flat where cops uncovered high quantities of chemicals – sparking fears of second attack

The concert terrorist is believed to have been at the apartment in Granby Row, central Manchester, just hours before the bombing
SUICIDE bomber Salman Abedi built his deadly device with the backing of ISIS warlords in this £75-a-night city centre flat.

Police fear he made enough explosive for two more bombs — as MI5 warned 3,000 of his fellow jihadis were currently involved in 500 active plots in Britain.
The quantities have led to fears at least two other bombs similar to that used on Monday could have been built.

Abedi may have planned the attack over the course of a year, having received training from ISIS experts in Libya or Syria, an investigation by The Times suggests.

He is said to have opened a bank account 12 months ago to fund DIY trips while he built up his deadly bomb-making kit purchased from B&Q and Screwfix.
He is believed to have made at least two trips to the superstores before leaving to Libya in April, the paper says.

Abedi first constructed the detonator, a small switchboard, in a workshop at his family home in Fallowfield, south Manchester.
He then mixed and primed the device hours before the concert massacre on Monday night in the kitchen and bathroom of the rental apartment.
He combined hydrogen peroxide with another chemical to produce a white powder known as Mother of Satan, which acted as the explosive charge.
A 12-volt battery was then attached to power the detonator.

The device was then concealed in a blue Karrimor rucksack packed with nuts, screws and bolts and made his way to the Arena two miles away — a 25-minute walk.

Although there is no CCTV on the door police have retrieved footage from nearby buildings and are examining it for clues.
There are also looking at footage along the route from the flat to the Arena.

The bombs are also like those used in the recent attacks in Brussels and Paris. It came as it emerged that suicide bomber Abedi, 22, grew up on the same estate as notorious IS recruiter Raphael Hostey.
Information in a cache of IS documents uncovered by Sky News show the two had known links, with security services saying they had a “significant” connection.
They hung out together and worshipped at the same mosque in Didsbury. At least 16 people from the wider area are believed to have signed up to fight jihad abroad.

Police have made "significant arrests and finds" in their inquiry into the Manchester Arena bombing, according to the UK's top counter-terrorism officer.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said they had "got hold of a large part" of the terror network they believe bomber Salman Abedi was part of.
"Immense" progress has been made, he added, but more arrests were likely.
Meanwhile, US singer Ariana Grande has said she will return to the "incredibly brave city" for a benefit concert.
In a message posted on Twitter Miss Grande, who performed on Monday, said the victims of the attack would "be on my mind and in my heart every day".
    'Enjoy yourselves'
Amid increased security at UK events this weekend, Mr Rowley urged the public to "go out as planned and enjoy yourselves".
He added that police had reviewed security at more than 1,300 events across the country, and people could be "100% confident" they were doing everything possible to protect them.
But for the investigation team, he said, there were still "important" lines of inquiry to pursue, and the security level will not yet be reduced from "critical".

The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Ian Hopkins, said 12 locations were still being searched. These operations, as well as one at Manchester Arena, will continue over the weekend.
He said thousands of items had been gathered by officers, though he would not say whether they could have been used to make explosive devices.

A total of 66 people remain in hospital, with 23 in critical care.
