Hackney nightclub acid attack leaves at least 12 injured

At least 12 people suffered burns after a man sprayed acid inside a club in east London.

Hundreds of revellers were evacuated from Mangle E8 in Sidworth Street, Hackney, after police were called at about 01:10 BST.

Officers believe a man threw acid at two men after a dispute between two groups inside the venue.

Two men in their 20s remain in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Ten other people were were treated for minor injuries, the Metropolitan Police said.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "The only information that we have is that it was an unknown corrosive substance thrown within the nightclub.

"It was identified by a pH paper test as a strong acidic substance."

It is understood about 600 people were at an event in the club.

London Ambulance Service said it sent a number of ambulance crews and a hazardous area response team to the venue.

Officers said 10 people were taken to hospital by ambulance, while a further two sought treatment at A&E.

They said no arrests had been made and officers were continuing to investigate.

The police added there was no evidence to suggest the attack was gang related.

Witness Phie McKenzie tweeted: "Scary scenes tonight, we have heard reports of chemical burns of people in the building here".

A woman who lives in a block of flats overlooking the nightclub described a scene of confusion as crowds were moved up the street away from the venue.

The tenant, who asked not to be named, said: "It happened so fast - they rushed people out. I thought it was a stabbing because all I heard was 'move, move, move - move out of the area'."

She added: "The security were telling the crowd to go down that way - people on this side were waiting to go home but they couldn't go home because the road was closed. People were confused."

A LoveJuice club night was being held at the venue and the company behind the event tweeted to say it was cooperating with the police investigation.

I don't think Cornwallian or Liverpudlian quite give it the right tone.

You've been in Thailand too long. Flashy facades do not make a nightclub great.

It has been rumored that the Mangle nightclub in east London on Sodworth street in Hacknee will be reopened under new management after an acid attack incident left several patrons in critical condition.

The new manager said Mangle will be renamed Severely Disfigured in honor of those affected by the acid attack.

Maybe the club's name should be changed to Mangle & Burn...

But seriously, what sort carries acid to go clubbing? WTF?

Mangle ‘acid attack’: Arrest warrant served in Hertfordshire leading to unrelated arrests for guns and drugs

Met police confirms arrest warrant issued after London Fields incident

Police served an arrest warrant in relation to Sunday night’s acid attack at a London Fields nightclub, resulting in two unrelated arrests, the Hackney Citizen can reveal.

Met police issued an arrest warrant for a Hertforshire address in relation to the incident at Mangle nightclub on Sidworth Street, where 12 people suffered burns injuries.

Hertfordshire police served the arrest warrant at the address in White Stubbs Lane, Broxbourne, at 7.50pm on Easter Monday.

Officers made two unrelated arrests and seized firearms and cannabis plants.

A Herts police spokesperson said: “A 54-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis.

“Officers seized several plants and illegal firearms at the address. The two people arrested are still being investigated.”

The Met police has confirmed to the Citizen that the arrest warrant served at the Hertfordshire address was issued in relation to its Mangle nightclub investigation.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from Mangle at around 1am after a man sprayed a substance at two people inside the club.

The London Fire Brigade said tests found the “unknown corrosive” was “a strong acidic substance”.

Two men in their 20s remain in a serious condition in hospital. A minor celebrity was among the injured.

Police are still investigating the attack.

More a deeper shade of black, since I was there in the late 1980's and early 90's.

Towie star's boyfriend wanted over Hackney club acid attack

The girlfriend of a man wanted for questioning by police following an acid attack in a London nightclub has appealed for him to turn himself in.

TV personality Ferne McCann urged Arthur Collins, 25, from Hertfordshire, to go to a police station immediately.

Mr Collins is considered a suspect in the attack. His Hertfordshire home was raided by police on Monday night.

Hackney club acid attack: Men arrested over attack

Two out of three men wanted over an acid attack at an east London nightclub which left two people partially sighted have been arrested.

Twenty people were hurt - including two people each blinded in one eye - in the attack at the Mangle E8 club on Monday.

Police said the men, aged 21 and 24, were arrested in separate properties in north London on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

They are still urging Arthur Collins, from Hertfordshire, to hand himself in.

The 25-year-old is the boyfriend of The Only Way is Essex star Ferne McCann, who has urged him to go to a police station.

The Metropolitan Police said a man and a 22-year-old woman both lost their sight in one eye while other people were treated for severe burns following the attack at the club in Hackney.

Det Insp Lee McCullough, who is leading the investigation, said it was continuing "to move at great pace and the net is closing in on those we believe to be responsible".

He added: "My team is acting on a number of leads to bring in those wanted for questioning in relation to this awful incident."

The officer said "anyone found harbouring those wanted for questioning by police can expect a knock at the door and could well find themselves under arrest".

The noxious substance used has not yet been confirmed but samples retrieved from the scene have been sent for analysis.

Three people had been earlier arrested as part of the investigation.
A 33-year-old woman, held on suspicion of firearms offences, has been released on bail, while a 54-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman held on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis after police officers found a suspected cannabis farm and suspected illegal firearms at Mr Collins' home in Broxbourne have been released under investigation.
Scotland Yard believe the acid was sprayed at two men, but hit others, following a dispute between two groups.
Two of the injured men - and 24-year-old and a 29-year-old - remain in a specialist burns unit hospital in Essex, both in a serious but stable condition.
The acid attack is one of three similar reports made to police in London over the past week.
On Good Friday a carjacking victim was sprayed with a "noxious substance" in Bow, while an 18-year-old man suffered what have been described as possibly life-changing injuries when he and another woman had a corrosive substance thrown over them in Fulham.
