    Terrorist attack Berlin Christmas market

Berlin: at least nine dead after truck crashes into Christmas market

Many people also left injured after vehicle runs into night market, with police claiming initial indications point to a terror attack
t least nine people have been killed and many more wereinjured, according to German police, after a truck ploughed into a Christmas market in Berlin.

They suggested the vehicle ran into the market outside the landmark Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church on Monday evening. The reports cited police at the scene who said initial indications pointed to a terror attack.
Police said the lorry came from the direction of Budapester Strasse, over the pavement, coming to a halt by a Christmas tree in front of the Gedächtnis Kirche, or Memorial Church. Known locally as the jagged tooth, the church was bombed in the second world war, and left more or less in its ruined state as a memorial to the victims of the war. It’s one of the most popular tourist sites in Berlin, and very close to the Berlin Zoo.
Police have cleared the area and volunteers have set up an information point for relatives looking for news of missing loved ones. The Christmas market has been cleared and a police spokesman said there are concerns the crash may have also caused a gas leak.

A photograph posted by the Morgenpost newspaper showed damaged tables and stalls, while footage posted online by the same outlet showed a truck on the scene and police officers investigating. The Berliner Zeitung said police also believed there to be multiple injuries.

Both newspapers reported it was not immediately clear whether the incident was an accident or some kind of an attack on the market. Breitscheidplatz, where the market was set up, is one of Berlin’s busiest shopping areas.
One witness, Emma Rushton, said the lorry ploughed through the market, adding that people had been crushed.

Pictures show a fooking big truck. If that is so then 9 deaths is a pretty well contained situation. Kudos to those involved in handling it.

Let's hope the media contain it in the same way, rather than making mountains out of molehills. It's been a bad year for many people and there is no need to make it worse.

Adding petrol to the fire is not the way forward. Europe is big enough to take it on the chin and still help those in need. Turning ones back is not the the answer whatever the gut reaction.

Edit: My daughter was right there yesterday.

Second news. There was an attack on a prayer room in a mosque in Zürich. 3 injured. One man stormed into the room and started firing. It is a place mostly visited by Somali Muslims.

Latest in TV news. The truck was from a polish company delivering a heavy load of steel to Berlin. Driver was a relative of the companies owner. They had lost contact with him at 4pm. Expectation in the company is that the truck was stolen, possibly the driver killed because there was no contact. The last is speculation of course. My own thought is it may be the dead man found in the truck. We will hear of it in the next hours or days.

Would they have given details of the driver (or whoever they caught) if he is not one of the usual suspects ?

    Death Toll is now 12.

At least 12 people have died after a lorry ploughed into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin in a possible terror attack.

Around 50 others were injured, including several critically, and the suspected driver was arrested nearby.

A passenger was among the dead in the crash at Breitscheidplatz, near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in central Berlin.

If this turns out to be a terrorist attack then I think it will be the final nail in Merkels coffin.

There are so many, no-one listens any more.

...the US State Department issued a warning in late November telling American citizens to exercise caution at "holiday festivals, events and outdoor markets".

The warning said: "Credible information indicates the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or Da'esh), al-Qa'ida, and their affiliates continue to plan terrorist attacks in Europe, with a focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events.

"US citizens should also be alert to the possibility that extremist sympathisers or self-radicalised extremists may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning."

She should be locked up and flogged for opening the flood gates to the refo's.

It's turned into a complete dogs breakfast.

Thank God Australia slammed the door on them.

Latest TV-News. The dead person in the truck is polish and according to the company owning the truck looks very much like the missed driver. The person arrested and most likely the driver is Pakistani.

Will our politicians press Poland to take more refugees ? Should Poland not be kicked out of the EU for not sharing our attacks ?

and do you ever wonder why?

christian europeans are tired of being forced to cook more and more muslim sock only to be laughed at and kicked in the face by them.

muslims answer only to allah, not to euro liberals begging them to integrate and love their new homelands.

islam has no place in a christian country and it never will.

12000 is nothing compared to the amount of traumatised Syrian families who desperately need help.

there are plenty of muslim countries for them to seek refuge in until their homeland is safe for them to return and build up again.

no need for europe to depopulate syria with offers of residence. it does no one any favours

Most extreme right wingers especially in the UK tend to be at the bottom of society. They need to lash out at somebody who they perceive as being even further down the social ladder than themselves and at the moment Muslims especially refugees fleeing war zones are a convenient scrape goat

Millions of Syrian refugees have poured into Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Lebanon has admitted over 1.2 million in the last year.
