There's only a point in publishing these stories if they explain what the hazard, impact, and likelihood is... but they don't, they just print a pretty young face and go for clickbait because journalism has descended to the lowest common denominator of "traffic generation".

The hazard of stumbling around a moving vehicle while paralytic maybe?

Yes, I get that, Fluke, and I saw it in the article. I'm just wondering why it's necessary to make it news in the national media now when surely, if anything, it was newsworthy just after it happened, in December. So did it not make the news in December? Or is it being rehashed because there's nothing else to fill news space? Or some other reason?

Well, it made the Phuket news in December.

Drunken state blamed for British woman?s fatal fall from Phuket tuk-tuk

The man who was travelling in the back of the tuk-tuk with British tourist Elizabeth Corrigan when she fell and fatally struck her head on the road in Kamala early last Sunday morning says she was drunk, slipped and fell.

Mr Fortuna explained to police that he and Ms Corrigan had spent a night on the town, drinking in Patong, before heading back to their hotel in Surin early Sunday morning, said Col ML Pattanajak.

“Mr Fortuna said that during the journey in the tuk-tuk, Ms Corrigan was about to be sick and moved to the entryway at the back of the vehicle,” he explained.

the vehicle turned sharply on a bumpy mountain road.
Smacked a Ducati Monster into the side of one when he suddenly u-turned in to my lane.

My lane being the empty oncoming traffic lane that I was cruising down.

The 3 wheeled fokers can turn on a dime without warning.

But in the end, the fault will always fall upon Somchai the tuk-tuk guy or Thai society, regardless of the stupidity or wrong doing of said Farang.....

The coroner recorded it as accidental death, so no one was at fault.

Cos 'tard land' is for drinking and whoring and dying suddenly with a smile on your face and a semi in your pants.

Nice people go to Maspalomas, drink sangria and die slowly while pretending they're living the dream.

^ Actually, the top "cause of death" in Thailand in 2012, I believe, was from "forum abuse"...

People got fcked up on their favourite forum and challenged each other to duels and just crushed each other willy-nilly...

On Nut was apparently a fight club before they had to tear it down...Too many deaths reported from meet-ups...

Yeah.....the good old days. Real punch-ups or subsequent creepy-like stalking.

Bit weak these days, at it's best are surface internet tough guys threats.

Tuk-tuks are inherently dangerous - that combined with the default reckless driving of the Thais, and the bad judgement/carelessness of the lady to change seats, 'mid-flight' were likely the cause of her death.

Very unfortunate accident, (I don't blame Somchai BTW)..best to always remain seated, holding on to the metal cage for dear life and limb... or even better, forgo the tuk-tuk 'experience' Mr. Fortuna should have rented.... you guessed it... A Fortuna...

    RIP... very sad nevertheless...

I found the "Goldman Sachs" part more of an effort to pander to idiots. Yes, the senior management of that company are repulsive parasites, but that doesn't apply to every employee and its mention was irrelevant.

Hey guys, go easy on Dicky, he's a good lad.... use lube! (Oops, did I just say that?)

(Lad- we're prolly in the same age grp! Lol)

We've all done stupid things when we're young, drunk or both! And Niamh & her fiance were both tipsy that night/ early morn. Reflexes were slow.

As to riding a tuktuk, I did it too. As ppl have said, it's part of the Thai experience. On my first trip to Bkk, I took the MRT to Hua Lamphong, then some guys there helped me hire a tuktuk. We agreed on the price & off we went to some touristy sites. But then, I also got toured to some gem shops & Indian tailors! I've nothing against Indians, but I didn't need to buy a suit on my 4-day holiday. I thought I was well read & prepared for that trip, but I dididn't read abt the tuktuk & gem shop scams. I didn't buy gems since I was a measely backpacker, but I did buy some trinkets from.their souvenir shop. I think my purchases weren't enough for a commission for the driver, though.

There was another incident when I walked alone at night in Bkk, and now I know that was stupid of me, and haven't done that again. But that's another story...

RIP to Niamh. She/They look like nice ppl.

Sorry for typos, am on fone.

Surely the 'Goldman Sachs employee' part was added to suggest this made the accident more tragic, based on the outdated illusion that it's somehow a hugely respected job.

One of those odd, archaic habits that still hang around in journalism.

Probably more likely to be just 'padding'. Makes the journalist look more investigative than he really is.

I don't want to pull this too far off subject, but we are talking about how the press chose to describe the deceased victim.
Perhaps you should recall and read about the crash of 2008 and Goldman's behavior before and after it. Once again, this has little to do with the deceased but the behavior of the media in describing the victim.
