Two 12 yo girls to be tried as adults in America.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — Two young Wisconsin girls accused of stabbing their classmate to please the horror character Slender Man must stand trial as adults for attempted homicide, a judge ruled Friday.

Both girls face a count of being a party to attempted first-degree intentional homicide, which automatically places them in adult court under Wisconsin law. They each could face up to 65 years in the state prison system if convicted. Both defendants and the victim, Payton Leutner, were 12 at the time of the stabbing.

Both girls' attorneys have argued that the girls legitimately believed they had to kill Leutner to protect their families from Slender Man's wrath. Anthony Cotton, an attorney for one of the girls, called his client a schizophrenic in court Friday.

Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren found there was enough evidence to order a trial in adult court.

The defense teams had asked him to dismiss the charges during a hearing last month. They contended second-degree attempted intentional homicide would be a more fitting charge because the girls, as misguided as they were, thought they were defending themselves and their loved ones from Slender Man by attacking Leutner.

Second-degree attempted intentional homicide is a lesser crime that prosecutors would have to pursue in juvenile court. The girls could be held in the juvenile system only until they turn 25.

After delivering a half-hour analysis Friday of statutes governing homicide charges and potential defenses, Bohren rejected the self-defense claims. He noted that the girls also thought killing Leutner would make them Slender Man's servants, earn them the right to live in his mansion and prove to others the creature was real. Those motivations outweigh self-defense, he said.

The girls' attorneys promised Friday to keep trying to move the case into the juvenile system. Bohren set hearings on transferring the girls for May and June.

Prosecutors allege the girls had plotted for months to kill their friend. They coaxed her into attending a sleepover at one of their homes in May and the next morning lured her into a wooded park in Waukesha. They stabbed her 19 times and then fled, according to court documents.

Police captured them later that day on city's outskirts as they were trying to walk to far northeastern Wisconsin's Nicolet National Forest, where they believed Slender Man lived in his mansion.

A passing bicyclist found Leutner and called for help. According to a criminal complaint, a doctor told investigators that one of the stab wounds just missed her heart.

The Associated Press isn't naming either of the girls charged in case they end up in juvenile court, where proceedings are closed to the public.

Sending two 12 yr old girls away for 65 years will teach them the error of their ways.

Kids who do that are messed up anyway,
but you might want to focus the attention on the sick people who make and promote these films and games.

What does it really mean, most juvenile courts don't have juries, just judges.
Article says trial in an adult court, probably better sentence options, where mental illness may be a factor.
Nothing about being held as adults or going to adult prisons, just a higher court.

Strangely, that's what most nonces would have thought at the title (obviously not suggesting that's the case with you).

Fathers in general would see the title of the thread in a different light.

Linguistics is fascinating. I have read a lot of books as an amateur student. Would be a wonderful field to specialise in as an academic I think.

If you're not old enough to drink a beer, buy a pack of cigarettes or drive a car, you're not old enough to be tried as an adult either. The law and courts are embarrassingly stupid sometimes.

But then, these junior psychopaths present a real problem since they're not really fit for the juvenile courts either. Juvenile courts were intended to pursue rehabilitation and the correction of the child's bad behavior over punishment, and children who commit crimes like this are beyond any chance of being rehabilitated.

    Agree.

Kids were by then nuts, non-compos mentis, deluded, encouraged to be so by their permissive parents, their peers, society and a stupid and greedy sensation game maker.

Sadly the Americans (who make many of these mentally ill games) already have, and in an unbelievably foolish and wrong way. The Supreme Court invalidated state laws banning the sale of violent video games to minors about 3 years ago.

Has to go down as one of the most stupid decisions of all time.

Justices Reject Ban on Violent Video Games for Children
    By ADAM LIPTAKJUNE 27, 2011
    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/28/us...anted=all&_r=0
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday struck down on First Amendment grounds a California law that banned the sale of violent video games to children. The 7-to-2 decision was the latest in a series of rulings protecting free speech, joining ones on funeral protests, videos showing cruelty to animals and political speech by corporations.

Funny, the other day I was defending absolute free speech in the University racism thread, now I find myself on the other side. Although I personally don't think this has anything whatsoever to do with "free speech" the Court apparently did.

"Thou shall not kill" would make a righteous starting point.

Put yourself in the shoes of the murdered 12-year-old girl's parent.
How would you perceive justice to be best and fairly served ?

Of course killing while actually enforcing the law of a nation , protecting civilians, defending a nation, 'promoting freedom' or bringing about 'international solutions' is still killing...though this situation would not have been the case.

Well firstly, PeeCoffee, nobody was murdered, nobody died.

The victim is already back at school.

Basically speaking, through thorough assessment and rehabilitation, while also looking at preventative measures that minimize the chance of such a scenario happening to others.

Slender Man: 25 years in mental institution for girl involved in classmate's stabbing

Anissa Weier has been sentenced to 25 years in a psychiatric institution

One of two Wisconsin girls who tried to kill a classmate to win favour with a fictional horror character named Slender Man has been sentenced
to 25 years in a mental hospital, the maximum punishment possible.

    Key points:
    • Anissa Weier expressed remorse for her involvement in the stabbing
    • The victim, aged 12 at the time, survived
    • The other girl involved is yet to be sentenced

Anissa Weier, 16, pleaded guilty in August to being a party to attempted second-degree intentional homicide, but she claimed she wasn't responsible
for her actions because she was mentally ill. In September, a jury agreed.

Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren has now sentenced Weier to 25 years in a psychiatric institution, retroactive to the date of the crime.
That means she will institutionalised until age 37.

if she can prove to the doctors that she's sane, i'd wager she has a good chance of being released when she's 21.

Before these video games where created , in Great Britain there was the " Jamie Bulgar " murder. A brutal murder of a toddler by two 11 year old boys.
Before modern video games this happened.

Slender Man stabbing: Girl, 15, sentenced to 40 years in mental hospital

One of the teenagers convicted of stabbing a classmate to please a fictional horror character will spend four decades in hospital.

A teenage girl will spend 40 years in a mental hospital after stabbing a classmate to please a fictional horror character called Slender Man.
Morgan Geyser, 15, has been sentenced to the maximum term in a mental health facility after a judge ruled she still poses a risk to herself and others.

At her sentencing, Geyser broke down in tears and said: "I just want to let Bella [the victim's nickname] and her family know that I'm sorry."
Geyser and Anissa Weier lured their classmate Payton Leutner into a park in Milwaukee and stabbed her 19 times.

All three girls were 12 at the time. Payton survived the attack, crawling out of the park and getting help from a cyclist.

These girls have been sentenced to 'terms' in mental institutions but what does this mean, will they be treated as insane, given medication and if at the end of their 'terms' if they are still considered insane will they be released.

With a prison term those convicted are given a finite term with possibly a non parole term of less than the sentence so they know they will be released after that time.

I have read of people who have never been released from mental institutions for they have been unable to prove themselves sane.

    Some interesting opinions here https://www.quora.com/If-you-commit-...-pros-and-cons

What it does show is the dangers of violent games and social media particularly if someone is 'not quite right' in the head.

Is it not part of the process in forming yet another fckued up & obedient generation, along with cartoons, school etc, part and parcel of the indoctrination process?
