Police Now Can Switch Off iPhone Camera and Wi-Fi

Police Now Can Switch Off iPhone Camera and Wi-Fi

Police throughout the globe have been embarrassed to see online videos of their officers pepper spraying tied captives.

"But now the police may not need to fear scrutiny anymore, because Apple has recently patented a piece of technology that would allow the authorities and police to block data transmission, including video and photos, whenever they like. All they need to do is decide that a public gathering or venue is deemed “sensitive” and needs to be protected from externalities. In this case Apple will enable them to switch off all its gear. The developers insist that the affected locations are normally cinemas, theaters and concert grounds, but Apple admits it could also be used in covert police or government operations that may need complete “blackout” conditions."

It's called a cell phone jammer. Been available for many, many years. Just depends on the distance. You can even have one to carry in your pocket to mess up people around you.

Actually disabling the phone on the other hand would be different.

You are so silly. This technology has been around for ages. the story plays to your paranoid delusions. The jamming only works if the wifi connection is open. If one turns off wifi and other programs that provide one's location, the device can still take photographs, and record. I usually have my GPS turned off as well as location finder. It is not difficult to go into set up and select airplane mode or data services and close wifi and data roaming. People love their go-pros and they are all over the place as are dash cam cameras. If you peruse liveleak, most of the most exciting recordings are not from cell phones, but dash cams and go-pro type devices which are closed systems.

    An article by ANON......

    I'm calling bullshit.
Total waste of time for Apple to do this as well as being against the law.
Apart from that, while it may work with iphones, what about the zillion other brands of phones and cameras.

You realize how many things are patented but never actually made?
They have probably done it just to stop someone else making one.

As i said, it's use would be illegal.

Why? Please back this statement up with something tangible like proof other than your absurd belief that governments and police are only interested in what is best for the people of their country, or that anything that is discovered about these tyranical bastards that is not released by your beloved mainstream faux media must be rubbish.

After all, Apple already proven to be passing information to authorities which is completely illegal anyway.

(insert conspiracy theorist jibe here at your leisure).

    Drone got your google?

Airwaves belong to the Government and are licensed at huge cost to companies who expect to have full use of them.
That use is protected by law.

Man fined for using illegal cell phone jammer | abc13.com

Tons of cases on the net.
Feds could conceivably get a warrant to jam for a certain reason, but the idea that your local plod will hit a button to selectively turn off iphones while every other type of recording device is unaffected so he can beat up a suspect in the street is just patent tin foil hat stuff.

But again, you are reading zygotes BS made up bollocks rather than actually reading what is written.

So - very clearly for you because I know you have problems with this.

Inbuilt into the iPhones receiver is a code that when triggered will shut off various parts of it. All the police need is a little clicker that will transmit that to the iphone. It is not a jammer which is what you and resident clown zygote are pretending it is.

Blimey - you are so gullible

Its what the patent actually say you buffoon! Written in black and white, and changes and added to over the last 5 years since they first had the idea. Just because your head is either up your arse or in the sand, does this mean you are unable to actually read now?

Let me guess - you will have to wait for a few years before this being used breaches you precious mainsteam press and then, when there are a few stories you will say "ahh nothing to hide, so no problems" ????

Dickhead ^ ^^ you have a legal right to film anything you like in public.
The police cannot infringe on that, unless you live in North Korea.

Bollocks - no you don't. What country are you talking about then? You may have the alleged right, but that is taken away at any time a cop demands it is.

    USA 1st Ammendment

Americans have First Amendment right to film police, US appeals court rules ? RT USA

UK Polic have no power to prevent.

Photography advice - Metropolitan Police Service

    Australia

Mobiles have levelled the playing field

Filming in public is an enshrined right in any developed country and police have no right to tell you to stop filming let alone interfere with your personal property.
Can they tell you to close your eyes too?

How much foil do you go through?

So what are the exceptions then, Dorothy? Walk up to passport control and try and video. Walk up to a crime scene and try to video. Walk into a police station and try to video. in the US, stand outside the FED and try to video. Walk around a bank videoing. Walk around a train mass public transport area videoing? Many many occasions that you will have the cops on you telling you to stop and your imaginary "rights" disappear. You have the rights right until someone with a badge tells you you no longer have them ..... and this will allow them to make that decision for you in advance.

How old are you Dorothy? Your level of naivety suggests about 9.

Edge of a crime scene is PUBLIC dorothy. You go and try it.

Besides, there are rights against getting shot and electrocuted, but that does not stop the coppers doing this to innocent people.

Dickhead, you can film a crime scene/
Turn the TV on, they are on the news all fucking day.
Filming the police arresting someone for resisting or a traffic stop, that's a crime scene isn't it?

If you would turn your camera off in public because a copper told you to you are just a sheeple who wont defend his rights.

Admit you are wrong, 100^ categorically and go watch the Wobblies leading the AB's 20-12.

You have a right not to be electrocuted on purpose by someone. the cops all carry bits of kit which they can use against you and in REALITY (you know, that place where real life happens as opposed to the bullshit you believe in mainstream press of Kansas, Dorothy) they can zap who ever the fuck they like. There might be consequences but that does not stop it happening.

Take away the ability of people to video these scum bags and they can do anything they like with impunity which is the whole idea about this.

You are wrong, Dorothy. 100% wrong. It has been designed, patented, improved, re-patented, and is most likely already in the iPhone 6.

Why? Because in kansas where you and Dorothy live cellphones only can pic up 1 frequency?
