Witnesses say Unarmed Black Teen "Executed" by White Cop

Missouri riots: FBI investigation opened into Michael Brown shooting

TEAR gas, rubber bullets and riots have engulfed normally calm suburban streets in the US after an unarmed black teenager was fatally shot by police.
Looting and violent riots occurred in Ferguson, Missouri, after a vigil for 18-year-old Michael Brown, who police said was shot multiple times Saturday after being confronted by an officer.
Witnesses at the scene said the teen was unarmed with his hands in the air when an officer approached with his weapon drawn and fired repeatedly.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said a vigil for Mr Brown turned rowdy after dark, as members of the crowd threw rocks at police and gunfire came from the crowd. He says officers used tear gas and shot “beanbag rounds” meant to stun mourners.
An Associated Press photographer said police were telling people to go home, but authorities had blocked exit streets off. Jackson said police blocked off the area where most of the looting and vandalism occurred the previous night out of concern that cars passing by might hit demonstrators in the street.

Iz be shoppin with Ma' Homies.....

The FBI has opened an investigation Monday into the death of Michael Brown, who police said was shot multiple times Saturday after being confronted by an officer in Ferguson, a suburb of 21,000 that’s nearly 70 per cent African American.
Authorities were vague about exactly what led the officer to open fire on Brown, except to say that the shooting was preceded by a scuffle of some kind with a man. It was unclear whether Brown or the man he was with was involved in the altercation.
Investigators have refused to publicly disclose the race of the officer, who is now on administrative leave. But Phillip Walker said he was on the porch of an apartment complex overlooking the scene when he heard a shot and saw a white officer with Brown on the street.

    Everything must Go Sale!

Brown “was giving up in the sense of raising his arms and being subdued,” Walker told the Associated Press on Monday. The officer “had his gun raised and started shooting the individual in the chest multiple times”. The officer then “stood over him and shot him” after the victim fell wounded.
Dorian Johnson offered a similar account when he told KMOV-TV that he and Brown were walking home from a convenience store when a police officer told them to get out of the street and onto the sidewalk. Johnson said they kept walking, which caused the officer to confront them from his car and again after getting out of the vehicle.
Johnson said the first time the officer fired, he and Brown got scared and ran away.
“He shot again, and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air, and he started to get down,” Johnson said. “But the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots.”
“We wasn’t causing harm to nobody,” Johnson said. “We had no weapons on us at all.”
Walker said that he did not see a scuffle or the circumstances that preceded the first gunshot.

    Uppity Nigra Patol

The St Louis County Police Department refused to discuss Johnson’s remarks, citing the ongoing investigation. But county Police Chief Jon Belmar previously said that an officer encountered Brown and another man outside an apartment complex, and that one of the men pushed the officer into his squad car and they struggled over the officer’s weapon.
Jackson said there’s no video footage of the shooting from the apartment complex or from any police dashboard cameras or body-worn cameras that the department recently bought but has not yet put to use.
Brown’s parents and their attorneys asked the public to share any information and videos they might have related to the shooting.
The family had planned to drop their son off at a technical college Monday to begin his studies.
“Instead of celebrating his future, they are having to plan his funeral,” said Benjamin Crump, a family attorney who also represented Trayvon Martin’s relatives after he was slain in 2012 in Florida by a neighbourhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of second-degree murder last year.
“I don’t want to sugar-coat it,” Crump added. Brown “was executed in broad daylight.”

Crump and some civil rights leaders drew comparisons between Brown’s death and that of Trayvon Martin and other young black men killed in racially charged incidents.
Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, said she did not understand why police did not subdue her son with a club or stun gun. She said the officer involved should be fired and prosecuted, adding that “I would like to see him go to jail with the death penalty.”
MORE: Rallies across the US for Trayvon Martin
The FBI is looking into possible civil rights violations, according to Cheryl Mimura, a spokeswoman for the agency’s St Louis field office.
Attorney-General Eric Holder said in a statement that the case deserved a full review.
Nearly three dozen people were arrested following a candlelight vigil Sunday night after crowds looted and burned stores, vandalised vehicles, assaulted and threatened reporters and taunted officers.

Deanel Trout, a 14-year resident of Ferguson, was convinced the troublemakers were largely from outside Ferguson and that they used Brown’s death and the vigil as an opportunity to steal.
“I can understand the anger and unrest, but I can’t understand the violence and looting,” Trout said.
Some people climbed atop police cars as officers with riot shields and batons stood stoically nearby, trying to restrict access to the most endangered areas.
Thirty-two people were arrested, police said. Two officers suffered minor injuries. There were no reports of civilians hurt.

    Damn Nigras..

On Monday, the scene of the shooting was marked with a makeshift memorial of candles and signs in the middle of the narrow street where Brown fell dead.
Brown’s father, also named Michael Brown, visited the memorial Monday, at one point straightening a wooden cross. He abruptly left after gunshots rang out a block away. There were no reports of injuries from that gunfire.
The person who was with Brown has not been arrested or charged, and it was not clear if he was armed, Jackson said. Blood samples were taken from Brown and the officer for toxicology tests, which can take weeks to complete.

Generalities like this about a country with a population of 300 million don't inspire "robust discussion".

Man critically wounded in another Ferguson police shooting

Unrest continues in Ferguson, Mo., following the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Early Wednesday, a St. Louis County police officer allegedly shot a man who, police said, pointed a gun at an officer near the site where protesters had rioted, according to news reports. The man was critically wounded.

At about 1 a.m., police responded to a call reporting that four to five men in ski masks were armed with shotguns and that there was gunfire. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw “multiple subjects running,” police spokesman Brian Schellman told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. One officer allegedly chased a suspected shooter.

When an officer approached the man, he pulled a handgun on the officer. The officer then fired at the man, Schellman told the newspaper.

Police said they recovered the gun at the scene, and the man was transported to a local hospital.

In a separate shooting incident about a half an hour earlier, a woman was reportedly shot in the head during a drive-by shooting near a QuikTrip gas station that was looted and burned late Sunday. She is expected to survive, according to KTVI-TV. Police told the Post-Dispatch they were looking for four or five men in connection with the incident. It was unclear if the shooting was related to ongoing riots.

Some protesters gathered after midnight and police threw tear gas, the Post-Dispatch reported.

Police did not immediately return a request for comment Wednesday morning.

Apparently the cop fired at least one shot in the patrol car (I heard this on CNN today)- there must have been some sort of physical altercation for him to do that.

Possibly, but he's claiming the guy went for his gun while he was inside the car, and it at least lends a bit of credence to his story.

I don't really believe the cops or the witnesses at this point...

Link to honky lynchings of late, black cops shoot non blacks, no FBI.

No evidence, as of yet, for a racial motive, just a shooting, will the FBI be investigating and charging the blacks shooting at white cops, think not.

The color of your skin doesn't matter. Dead is dead.

I just can't connect the dots as to how this incident can be considered justification for theft and looting.

Unless of course, it turns out that the police are the store owners.

Crime is the fault of white police acting in a racist manner.

    Demographics[edit]
Year 2000 breakdown of sex and race in the D.P.D.:[18]

    Male: 75%
    Female: 25%
    African-American/Black: 63%
    White: 34%
    Hispanic, any race: 3%
The Detroit Police Department has one of the largest percentages of black officers of any major city police department, reflecting current overall city demographics. Lawsuits alleging discrimination stemming from the influence of affirmative action and allegations of race-based promotional bias for executive positions have surfaced repeatedly.[19][20][21] As of 2008, the majority of upper command members in the Detroit PD were black.[22]

    Very safe city Detroit. Jim

    Nothing surprises me anymore.

With all due respects to everyone on this forum I expect that the majority of law breaking people who are more likely to cop a bullet are black and when it happens sectors of our community call the race card.

What we need to do is address why more blacks are breaking the laws and ending up in life threatening situations.

More importantly we need to teach the police to not shoot on sight because they see the culprits (or assumed) are black.

Absolutely no win to anyone situation.

Witness to Michael Brown shooting comes forward

FERGUSON, Mo. — Minutes before teen Michael Brown was fatally shot by a local police officer, a friend he was walking with said the pair was a short distance from home.

Dorian Johnson said he was standing inches from Brown when the shooting occurred around 1:40 p.m. Saturday. He gave his account of the shooting to KSDK-TV.

"The officer is approaching us and as he pulled up on the side of us, he didn't say freeze, halt or anything like we were committing a crime. He said, 'Get the F on the sidewalk.'

After Johnson said the officer thrust open the door of his patrol car, hitting the pair, Johnson said the officer grabbed Brown around the neck and tried to pull him through the window. He said Brown never tried to reach for the officer's weapon.

"The second time he says, 'I'll shoot,' a second later the gun went off and he let go," Johnson said. "That's how we were able to run at the same time. The first car I see, I ducked behind for because I fear for my life. I'm scared. I don't know what's going on. I don't understand why this officer is shooting his weapon at us."

According to Johnson, the officer pursued Brown and fired another shot. which struck Brown in the back. He said Brown turned and faced the officer with his hands raised.

"My friend started to tell the officer that he was unarmed and that he could stop shooting (him)," Johnson said. "Before he could get his second sentence out, the officer fired several more shots into his head and chest area. He fell dramatically into the fatal position. I did not hear once he yell freeze, stop or halt. it was just horrible to watch."

Johnson said he could tell Brown was in pain after the shooting.

"It hurt him a lot," he said. "I could see it in his eyes. It was definitely like being shot like an animal.

"I definitely think (the officer) is guilty of murder."

Johnson, who is expected to be interviewed by the FBI Wednesday, said he moved from his apartment with his girlfriend and young daughter because he feared retaliation from police.

"I left because I feared that if I stayed, something would happen to me. I felt like if they would have gotten me, they would have done anything possible to make sure I couldn't come forth and give my side of what happened."

Can't find the stats on the FBI site, here's a US abc news, cut and paste.

The U.S. Department of Justice does not require police departments to report deadly shootings statistics. Some FBI statistics indicate the number of people fatally shot by police each year has changed little in the past five years, with about 360 dying at the hands of police in one recent year.

In a country full of gang bangers, meth heads and general nut jobs with access to guns, seems not to large a number.

Detroit leads the way on police killings per capita, predominantly black population and predominantly black police force.

Ferguson: Journalists Ryan J Reilly, Wesley Lowery arrested as ‘warrior-cops’ stalk streets

SWAT teams armed to the teeth with guns trained on crowds. It seems like a scene from an action movie, but it's happening on the streets of the world’s wealthiest democracy.
This morning, Huffington Post reporter Ryan J Reilly and Washington Post journalist Wesley Lowery live tweeted their arrest from a McDonald’s in Ferguson, St Louis.

LAND OF THE FREE OR POLICE STATE?
The heavy handed use of force has caught national attention, with many disturbed by the images of police looking more like heavily armed soldiers.
The trend first emerged in the dark days after September 11, 2001.
The use - and some say abuse - of contentious anti-terrorism powers for intelligence agencies have been well documented and heavily debated, thanks to the likes of Manning, Snowden and Assange.
But one change has slipped through virtually unnoticed.
The United States has begun arming its police as though it was a military.

    T. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — An 18-year-old shot and killed near a Ferguson apartment complex Saturday afternoon had no criminal record, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

According to police, Brown pushed a Ferguson Police Department officer into his car. Then, both struggled and at some point, Brown reached for the officer's weapon before a shot fired inside of the car followed by a number of other shots. Brown was not armed.

Ferguson police chief says race relations a 'top priority'

St. Louis County Prosecutor's office confirmed that Brown had no prior misdemeanors or felonies against him.

A preliminary autopsy showed Brown died from gunshot wounds. An official autopsy will be released later.

Wednesday afternoon, Brown's body was turned over to his family. Wednesday evening, police again used tear gas to disperse crowds that gathered in the predominantly black suburb of St. Louis.
