Empire Strikes Back, Russia Announces Sanctions On The West

Russia hits back, bans all US food, EU fruit in sanctions response

Russia will ban all imports of food from the United States and all fruit and vegetables from Europe, the state news agency reported on Wednesday, a sweeping response to Western sanctions imposed over its support for rebels in Ukraine.
The measures will hit consumers at home who rely on cheap imports, and on farmers in the West for whom Russia is a big market. Moscow is by far the biggest buyer of European fruit and vegetables and the second biggest importer of US poultry.
RIA quoted the spokesman for Russia's food safety watchdog VPSS, Alexei Alexeenko, as saying all European fruit and vegetables and all produce from the United States would be included in a ban drawn up on the orders of President Vladimir Putin to punish countries that imposed sanctions on Russia.

Earlier, Alexeenko told Reuters bans on EU and US goods would be "quite substantial", and would specifically include U.S. poultry, although he declined to give a full list of banned goods. He could not be reached again after the RIA report.
The war of economic sanctions has escalated even as fighting has intensified on the ground in eastern Ukraine in the three weeks since a Malaysian airliner was shot down over territory held by pro-Russian rebels.

Belgium has a clearly defined role in times of pan European war.

it's where the Germans wipe their feet before rolling into France (courtesy) and the British wipe their feet as they leave France (hygiene) after liberating it

Two can play at that game.
And the games that they are playing, Russia will have the greater edge.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Much of Russia's fresh produce during its winter season is imported from the west.
Does Putin expect his people to eat more cabbage, potatoes, turnips, beets and onions instead of fresh fruit? Food prices will jump due to shortages, and it will be just like the good old days of the Soviet Union.

Next up, a travel ban for the winter season. That will cause the Russians to flip out.

I thought Belgium is where the UN peacekeepers who sit by and watch a genocide occur without intervening come from,

The only people who will lose out are the Russian people. Maybe there will be another Russian Revolution.

still an improvement over the US, UK and NATO forces carrying out the genocide themselves or approving and arming third parties to do it for them

It's a loss for all parties actually- US, Russia, but the biggest loser is the EU. That's the way it is with tit for tat sanctions. Putin's excuse- You started it. At least he's not playing dodgy games with europe's energy supply.
Guess we should consider the winners too- Brazil, China, Iran other countries that can and will substitute the food imports to Russia, money centres outside the US & EU, such as HK, Caribbean, Switzerland. Non US or EU banks & investment banks. Probably provide a bit of a boost to upmarket real estate in places like HKG & the Caribbean too, maybe even Oz- the Russki's have to park their dodgy cash somewhere. Maybe even Pattaya (hallelujah).

absolutely, which brings the question of the real motivations behind it

I think a showdown between NATO and Russia is soon to come,

NATO is already requesting more funds from allies to "upgrade" their weapon facilities

Got to love it, Australia's crying, meat exports knocked on the head, Russians have no moral right to put sanctions us, there supporting separatist.
Same breath, we support air strikes on Iraq, by the US.

Russians are not that stupid, no more OZ beef, what will they eat, Brazilian beef, looks like the deals already been made.
Imagine all the sanctioned good are available else where. Jim

hopefully, it will bring down the price of aussie beef here.
Just thought of another winner- Israel. Guess the russki's won't be too fussy where they get their food from, and Israel is a decent sized exporter of some agricultural produce- as well as close by. Israeli banks too (well known money launderers). Or are they in on the sanctions too?

My guess is Europe will be whimpering long before the Russians get fed up of cabbage and onion soup.

More to this, than Russia supporting some separatist, think outside the square.
Russia, a country that has a trade surplus, started selling US treasury bonds in March, why.
Not a massive holder, but a couple of 100 billion, how big do you have to be to start a dumping run.
Who is going to buy up the bonds, if Russia and friends start dumping, you won't believe who is now the 3rd biggest holder of T bonds, Belgium.
All big picture stuff, little war here, sanctions there, terror threats.
Real motives, bombing Muslims in Iraq, to protect Christians, but not in Nigeria, killing Christians and kidnapping school girls.

Bet China is a better friend to Russia, than the US, it's not a cold war over capitalism/communism, but financial domination.

Control of the ME oil, control, South China sea, control of the worlds financial markets.
People won't fight to defend Wall street, City of London, etc, but they do to save the world from tyrants.
Who the real bad guys are, is a question. Jim
