A 25% coverage of a national flag can hardly be termed as 'domination'.

However, here is a selection of suitable 'heritage flag' alternatives should a referendum be deemed necessary in Australia.

I quite like this one, it's pure Australian.

I quite like this one. It reflects Australia's past and present in one memorable flag.

Yes we do. The Eureka flag.

    Looks like a bank logo.

We have a red and white flag with a dead leaf on it. Looks nice.

We will probably change it, when America invades to divert our rivers to irrigate California.

Funny how all the designs submitted so far have the look of some banana republic.

If there is going to be a new one it needs to be bold and classy even heraldic, that can be recognized from afar and not just a bunch of coloured scraps sewn together.

peterpan will be along soon with some words of wisdom.

Remember the day it changed and the Union Jack was trashed. A dark day. Now it's a poor copy of French flag and a Maple Syrup logo.

Aus is not interested. 72% of kiwi s can't be bothered. I reckon just an election gimmick to let people know he is a man of the people.

Sadly, that's ^^ just the sort of thing the pc nanny state would produce as a replacement i fear.

One of my favourite flag designs. That and Vietnam.

I also think the silver fern would look really classy as a national flag.

The Aussies are fucked. An overgrown rabbit or a bird that can't fly. Jeezus!

A non-starter I think. Too closely tied to specific white-Australia colonial historic events. Religious overtones. Totally anonymous to foreigners.

Interesting comment. Canadian flag is one of the best I think. If some folk see it as a syrup logo but it still manages to be good in the eyes of most then I think this option for Aus has more mileage than I thought (it also can be seen as being based around a corporate logo but hopefully could outgrow this perception).

No human culture stuff - only nature and instantly identifiable.

    that's the weakness though, imo.

I think elements of British colonial history need to be retain, we cannot start again at Year 0. (and I equally think we need to retain elements of the Aboriginal flag., as the original inhabitants of the country)

Suppose finally it turned out well in it's simplicity once the Quebecois frogs were told to fok off. They wanted a tri color with maple leaf.

Off topic. You Aussies carry on.

Not all. Some folk put them up to remind Americans that they are in a land with funny money:-)

Canadians will fly any flag to attract tourists. Most Canadians are not showy about nationalism unless its a hockey game.

100 years of existence and a few days of history to show for it. Stick with what you've got if that's the case.

More apt would be 'Red - the colour of our coats'
