What i don't understand is
How did/can Russians travel to the Crimea without a Passport.
They have always been able to do that.
If i travel to Gibraltar then i need a passport.
He isn't that nice though- having taken back Crimea, he can just sit back and let the west throw megabucks at the problem, deal with the considerable unrest from the restive east (which is 'russian'), and play apologist for the far right wing thugs that, post coup, now control the Ukrainian government. Cold War type thinking has just thrown us into another financial black hole we could well do without, and that is not even accounting for the realistic possibility of civil war in the Ukraine.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
No different to the EU 'schengen' arrangement really. The thing is, Crimea has always been Russian- this didn't change after it became an autonomous republic within the tacked together Ukrainian federation, what changed was the collapse and dissolution of the USSR. If Khrushchev were alive today, he would have egg on his face. How did/can Russians travel to the Crimea without a Passport.

Stealing ? Stealing ! So what.
The U.S. and the NSA are stealing big data and the Russians a bit of land. Data is just as valuable as a piece of land. Both are doing this to protect their people/allies. That's at least what they say Who do I believe ? NONE.
At least with Putin I know where I'am at. With the U.S. I have a bear disguised as a lamb, who's presidents are elected in curious ways, and no one knows who is running the government.
Let's face it, the Russians have just not perfected the art of stealing, cheating, invading or taking over like the U.S. has. Its a bit like their space program (looks old fashion), but they get where they want to go.

Bit like their aviation program as well then (Concordski, Sukhoi, etc.).
If you're from the EU you just need a valid ID card, not a passport. As the UK doesn't use ID cards a passport is considered a valid substitute.Originally Posted by billy the kid
