Netanyahu missing Mandela memorial for cost reasons

Jerusalem (AFP) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided not to attend a memorial service for Nelson Mandela this week because it is too expensive to travel to South Africa, Israeli media reported Sunday.
More than 50 heads of state and government have confirmed their intentions to travel to South Africa to pay their respects to the anti-apartheid hero who died last Thursday, South Africa's foreign ministry has said.
Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas has announced that he will attend Tuesday's memorial service.

Well most world leaders think he's a arrogant tosser, and a couple of them have been caught out saying as much.

I think a lot of the reduction in American support for Israel is down to Obama getting fed up with him stamping his feet and putting his hand out.

Translation: He hasn't worked out a way to get the US taxpayer to foot the bill yet.

Israel is the only country in the world that did not invite Mandela after he was released from prison, or during his presidency. He visited Israel and Palestine once after his term, and said on this occasion,

"To the many people who have questioned why I came, I say: Israel worked very closely with the apartheid regime. I say: I've made peace with many men who slaughtered our people like animals. Israel cooperated with the apartheid regime, but it did not participate in any atrocities."

He was of course another type of person than Netanjahu. I don't think its a cost problem, he is not safe anywhere in Africa.
Boon Mee: 'Israel is the 51st State. De facto - but none the less, essentially part & parcel of the USA.'

Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel were an apartheid supporter back in the good old days,

Israelis are extremely racists, ask Fluke, so it doesn't come as a surprise that their PM will miss this event on a petty excuse

So, there are over 200 heads of state in the World and only 25% have said they will be attending, but lets all ignore the 150 or so Heads of State who wont be attending and focus on just one who wont be attending .
And the reason why Netanyahu receives this attention when he is one out of 150 Heads of state who wont be attending is because .........................It cant be because he is Jewish because posters have stated that they arent Anti Semites, so there must be another reason why they make a thread about Netanyahu and no one else who wont be attending .
    Its because.......errmmmmmm.

take it up with those virulent anti-semites at yahoo news ....they wrote and published the headline and article.

i would guess netanyahu is receiving this attention for two reasons:

    1. his country's shameful history with regard to s. africa (see comments above)
    2. he is the leader of an apartheid state (see reality)

Although Yahoo news did publish the whole article which included (and what you intentionally omitted)
"Netanyahu paid tribute to Mandela as "a man of vision and a freedom fighter who disavowed violence".
And the article also stated that the cost of attending would be $U.S.2 Million and that Netananyu has been internally criticised for his spending whilst in office .
No doubt if he had gone, you would have criticised him for spending U.S$2Million on attending the funeral ,after he is a Jew and everything he does is wrong

Looks like Olmert is going to challenge the madman again.

Olmert Against Netanyahu: Israel's Divide on Iran : The New Yorker

    ...
Netanyahu fancies himself the new Churchill. To Olmert, he sounds more and more like Madame Chiang Kai-shek.

“The Iranian threat is serious,” he wrote to me. “But the way to deal with Iran is by settling with the Palestinians—stop immediately the settlement policy and offer a serious peace plan… Only a peace deal with the Palestinians can end the regional conflict.”
    ...
    Yep, makes sense.

Basically, I do not think that it is appropriate for bibi to be attending Nelson Mandela's State funeral. Was he even invited?
    One word- Bantustan.

As you know Ray, Mandela was an ally of Arafat's.

I think that is the real reason.

As for the rah-rah mentality towards Mandela in death and his funeral - yes, he was an interesting man - but the funeral attendance is just protocol for being seen.

The guy was 95. Been out of office for years.

    He dies. People die.

    Time to move on.

Here at Teak Door everyone gets their bashing, stop whining.
And now lets all sing together:

Are there any queers in the theatre tonight? Get 'em up against the wall!
That one in the spotlight, he doesn't look right! Get him up against the wall!
And that one looks Jewish... and that one's a coon! Who let all this riff raff into the room?
That one's smoking a joint! And that one's got spots! If I had my way, I'd have all of you shot!

You are in love with that catchphrase, aren't you? Don't you think 'racism' would be just quite as good, and a superlative uneccessary?

I reckon Netanyahu isn't going because he knows Obama would probably snub him again.

I take it Bush senior is too weak to go then? Maybe you should pick him for your next death sweep.

    He is 89.

cnut faced Netanyaho says he can't afford to go to Nelson Mandela's funeral.
Security especially would be too expensive.
