Fast & Furious star Paul Walker dead in fiery car wreck

Actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious action movies, has died in a car crash after his friend lost control of a Porsche GT which smashed into a pole and a tree.

Walker, 40, who was in five of the six films about illegal street racing and heists, was attending an event for his charity Reach Out Worldwide

The star's representatives and official Facebook page confirmed his death yesterday.

The high-powered super-car spun out of control in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, at 3:30pm, before it burst into flames.

The LA County Sheriff's department confirmed two people died but is yet to release names.

However Ame Van Iden, Walker's publicist, said in an email: 'Sadly, I must confirm that Paul did pass away this afternoon in a car accident.'

The fundraiser, to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan, was taking place in a nearby racecar shop.

Guests rushed to put out the flames with fire extinguishers but to no avail.

The actor's official Facebook page read: 'It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.

^ i believe it was his friend driving. but i suspect a bit of 'character acting' was the cause.

Not that I'm attempting to be crass, but his celebrity death marks it more important than others.....

    Or does it?

A surprising number of people have been killed in the Porsche GT, especially considering how few were made- it's an evil bitch best left to professionals.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I think he was also in at least one war film maybe it was that one about the helicopters that went down in Somalia. The way of his death just makes me think of the Fast & Foolish. Who knows what caused this. It's just too common as one poster noted.

Never seen the films, never want to, the movie "Bullitt" (1968) was enough to set Me up for life with regards to car racing on the silver screen. Never heard of him.

    ^^^^

Apparently it was driven by a professional - they had just left some charity event.

"The high-powered super-car was being driven by Roger Rodas the former race car driver who had helped set up the charity programme."

Sure hope for them both that they where out instantly, a local sheriff is quoted for saying that it will need dental records to officially identify the victims.

Good job they did not take innocent bystanders out, hopefully it will show the imbecile followers that movie driving and real life is two different things, and fast and too furious can get you killed for real.

^ professional is a bit of a stretch, he was an enthusiast, not a paid professional driver.
I would assume a big difference in skills.

The police still haven't confirmed who was driving (though it's speculated that it was Rodas)- what a mess it must have been if they couldn't tell for sure.

Based on the physical damage of the chassis having torn in half at the passengers compartment that's a likely conclusion after hitting a light pole and a tree..

There are post-crash photos of walker floating around- it looks like his face was split down the middle- it must have been pretty quick.

The original movie wasn't that bad. The rest were.

Paul Walker wasn't your average celebrity douche bag IMO.

    Apparently not a professional driver?

An online profile states that Rodas was, "one of America's top wealth management advisors and portfolio managers, with an impressive list of clients,

Just heard on the news it wasn't Paul driving, but his friend.

B list actor in B movies, just one of many trying to make a name in hollywood.

sad accident, especially the fire aspect, death by fire whilst trapped is too terrible to bear thinking about.

one newspaper reports lots of doughnut skidmarks on the road at the crash site, suggesting they were hooning around prior to the crash.

Must have been a big bang to snap a flagship model porsche in two.

so sorry, had a great heart and way to soon. I drive a integer gsr which was the first
move was about. Best car I ever had has 302k never had head off, turns 8000 rpm every day beats most chevys and gets 30 mpg. only 1700cc (109 ci) versus 350 chevy. Record in pro stock civics have turned close to 200 mph
in 1/4 mile in 8-9 seconds, (With turbos making over 1000 hp) only 118 cubic inch. most people don't know this.

Yeah, that definitely is B-list material, innit?
