When I first came to Thailand, the big story back in the states related to this was the gay kid that was beaten up and tied to a fence in Wyoming. I came out here to Thailand to see transsexuals already accepted by society working in all positions without being harassed or killed for what they are. Many people are still living in the past in the US. People should just accept people for what they are an let them live. If they wrong you, go after them but let them live their lives without hassles until that day.
The backwards family in this story should just not have left a tip. They didn't have to write that down. in the future, they should avoid the restaurant because obvious the owner supports a behavior they are against.
^Ever been to the Philippines? You still haven't answered. If so, where and for how long? I'm interested since you appear to speak with such authority on gays in the Philippines. I'm just interested as my 17 years of experience here leads me to a bit of a different conclusion than what I presume you concluded from your vast experience here.
This is hate mixed with speculation. Not nice. Not smart.Quote:

gays, being a minority, will, like every other minority group in the world, come in for criticism and discrimination. its unavoidable and one of the things minority groups have always had to deal with. it will never be eradicated, its human nature. minority groups must learn to deal with it, ignore it or move to places where they are in the majority.
those who resort to violence and discrimination against minorities must be punished by the law. but those who merely express their personal opinions are just exercising their right to free speech.
I've never said anything about the Philippines other than that comment. I just figured the religious folks there which I meet so often here would have the gays all converted back into 'normal' humans. The Filipinos have a reputation of being quite religious and quite corrupt but that's normal for believers in God. I'm sure there are gays there and of course you'd like them to all move off to an Island in the middle of the Pacific.
On a side note, I have one Filipino friend who got married and two years later left his wife for a gay Thai. The gay relationship has lasted and my friend is quite happy now. When the marriage took place all the relatives came from abroad and it was a big deal. Going through the motions for the sake of tradition and society but the truth comes out at least for the people here in Thailand.
No, I haven't been to the Philippines.
Small minds. The tip is for service received not a life style
by being served by a lesbian they were made to feel uncomfortable, and hence they quite naturally, declined to tip.
^^^So, you've never been here. Figures.
There are fags here like anywhere else. The boy fags don't dress like girls like in Thailand.
But, there are fags all over the place, especially teachers and nurses.
They are not 'in your face', and are not discriminated against, although they are certainly not as accepted as in Thailand.
The TV soaps, like in LOS, are full of them as lower-class Filipinos who watch that kind of fare think fags are funny.
They already have moved to places where they are have a lot of support like San Francisco, New York and many other places in the US.
Really, many posters here who support the anti-gay-is-okay camp here basically believe that gay people are choosing to be gay. You don't think they are born this way and really have no choice. I don't see it that way at all. They are who they are so your prejudice towards they really IS just like racism. They can't change who they are yet you still have prejudice towards them.
This is true.Quote:

The article is rubbish; hyperbole. & the waitress is taking advantage of the situation for profit...
Well Retro, guess we're just going to disagree on this. You think fags are just peachy, and I think that some guy whose idea of foreplay is another guy's balls bouncing off his chin is pretty revolting.
To each his own - enjoy.
^Jesus Retro, enough with the Negro analogy. It doesn't work and has nothing to do with a thread about fags being disgusting.
Actually, I don't always feel comfortable around them. The Katoeys can be freaky looking. There are all sorts of weird people in the world. I just think there's no reason to treat people the way that this girl was treated. It's just wrong.
That would be rude and offensive. This family were not rude or offensive. You are using hyperbole again, we see a pattern here...Quote:

gays and other minorities can live however they want, its fine with me, but i need to be free to express my feelings of like or dislike for groups of all and every persuasion on this planet.
there are people who for whatever reason dont like gays or their lifestyles or practices, they should be free to express those views and not told to suppress them.
same with racist views, or views about the obese, or manchester united supporters or even the holocaust.
some people just dont like them, so what. you cant force people to like them and you cant force people to keep quiet. you can punish those who translate those feelings into violence and discrimination, but thats about it.
i may not like the colour blue or bmw 5 series cars, but it doesnt mean i make it my lifes work to destroy those things. i just dont like them.Quote:

i belong to a minority group myself, ( a ginger haired black jew with a lisp in case youre wondering) and ive been on the receiving end of both verbal and rarely physical abuse. fact is i wouldnt want it any other way because i know exactly where i stand with people, i know who my enemies are and who my friends are and who is indifferent and dont care either way.
thats much better than the falsehoods that come from legislated political correctness , multiculturalism and inclusiveness.
so take your demands for legislated acceptance of gays by everybody and flush them down the toilet. in the long run they will do more harm than good. most people are tolerant or indifferent, they dont give a fuck either way but those that dislike will always dislike and if they cant express their feelings and feel choked by legislation, then worse things will come to pass.
of course it is okay.Quote:
Really, so it would be okay for someone to write 'Sorry, we don't give tips to negros'
its free speech, are people so sensitive these days that they cant take a bit of verbal abuse. and it demeans the writer more than the target.
Well put Tax. So you are open to people leaving the note 'I don't give tips to negros' then. Maybe people should just say it outright. Teachers should tell kids in their class they living the wrong 'lifestyle' People should just be able to take it, move on or go mainstream. We'll lose a few of the weaker folks to suicide but that's darwinism (or God's will if you like). If you grew up with God, you know that sinners find their fate.
Those people were assholes. If they were so offended by the waitress, they should have just left the restaurant. There was no good reason for them to let her serve them then write a spiteful note and leave no tip.
So start a new day tomorrow and let those fags around know that they are wrong. It's good for the world.

Finally, some kids speaking up. Let's see more of this. It's the kind of nation we all want to live in. Freedom! The Westboro Baptist church should try to recruit some new members here.
^^I actually don't think anyone is disputing that. Assholes - no doubt. Note leaving cowardly - no doubt. Tip - personally I find the American concept of a tip as 'a right' offensive - but it should be about service, or lack thereof, and not sexual orientation.
Fat tomboy server putting it all over the internet to generate support for her lifestyle and to generate income - disgusting? - no doubt.
