‘We’re all in a state of shock’: Shooting rampage in Texas leaves five dead

    Just another day in America...

A shooting spree at four homes and a gas station left five people dead and a suspect in custody, local media reported Tuesday.
A woman who answered the phone at the police station in Terrell, Texas was unable to provide information on the shooting, telling AFP only that “the subject is in custody.”
He was identified in local media reports as Charles Brownlow, a man with a lengthy criminal history.
NBC news reported that neighbors identified the first woman shot as Brownlow’s aunt, whose body was discovered in her home at about 5 pm Monday.
Half an hour later a firefighter noticed smoke coming from the home of Brownlow’s mother. Her body was discovered inside the charred house.
Things were quiet for a little while, but at 10 pm shots were fired at the home of Brownlow’s girlfriend, NBC news reported. Nobody was hurt there.
The bodies of a woman and a man were found dead in another home at 10:27 pm. A three-year-old child discovered in the home was unhurt.
Ten minutes later, a convenience store clerk was shot dead at Ali’s Market. Brownlow tried to flee police in a car stolen from his mother’s house, but he crashed into a fence and then ran off into the woods. He was captured with the help of infrared cameras and helicopters at 1:30 am Tuesday.
“We’re all in a state of shock, you have a tendency to think, ‘How can that happen here?’” Terrell Police Chief Jody Lay told reporters at an early morning press conference.
“This is a country community, a rural community, people are real close and this is going to have a really big impact on us.”

Sadly, that about sums it up. I read the US news every morning, right after I read the Philippine news and World news, and am at the point that I almost skim over these US shootings.

a man with a lengthy criminal history.
    that says it all.

no free man should have a lengthy criminal history, those with even very a short criminal history should either be locked away from society or disposed of by other means.

those who cant live by societies rules should be kept out of society.

    Stupid mentality.

Of course these shootings can happen "there." They can happen anywhere.

State of shock, of course they are because there is little gun crime in Texas because gun owners have seen to that. I love these stories. How about printing stories where an armed citizen has prevented mass shootings. It far outweighs the bad.

Can we not use the same analogy as a thief scouring properties to steel from. What's he/she going to choose. The easy pickings, none secure homes or risk getting caught or slowed down by a well secured property. I'd like to think that my gun, assuming the criminal knows I'm armed because the state allows will fuck off elsewhere! And guess what, they usually do!

Dr. John Lott, a senior research scholar at Yale University Law School in a study with the University of Chicago, discovered that guns are used five times as often to prevent as to commit crimes.

But of course with the new Obama (communist) administration, and those that follow, will never admit to the truth. But they'll do their best to find links provided by the government that discredit such links above.

The anti-gun campaigners are often those that have also lost members of a family due to a gun related incident. They believe if guns were illegal, their loved one will still be here. They are completely blinded by their own emotions and the bigger picture.

I wonder how many, god forbid should ever be in a situation where a criminal is in their house, pointing a gun at the family, for that moment wished they were armed?

I wonder who wins the race for the most fatalities this year.

    1. Gun crimes in the US
    2. Drug wars in Mexico
    3. Islamic terrorism

Most likely in this order. Like every year.

The US government are currently too busy negotiating their way out of a spying scandal to worry about mere murders on the streets.

Do drunk drivers intentionally run over their victims? Shitty analogies like that only give the anti gun crowd more ammo Booners.

Another one in North Carolina today - six dead, including kids. Family dispute, as I recall.

Be careful, you will upset the "progressives" (who already weep about all the people currently in US jails).

I believe the good, honest people outnumber the criminals (in every country - not just the US). Governments should give tax breaks to honest citizens who acquire firearms and undergo training on how to use them to stop criminals "dead in their tracks".

    "Progressives" fire away.

Sometimes. A guy I grew up with (criminal with a long history of violence and arrests), got drunk and got in a fight with another ex-con. Usually the guy I knew won most fights, but he was too drunk to win this fight.

He left, stole a car, and then run down the guy who beat him up.

Rather then go to prison for a few decades for cold-blooded murder, he was convicted of drunken-driving and vehicular manslaughter charges and given a much lighter sentence.

Many lawyers have publicly stated that the best way to kill someone and get away with it, is to run them over in a car.

Also it is interesting how anti-gunners always include accidental shootings in their number of gun deaths, but when someone brings up the numbers concerning accidental auto deaths, they always respond as did pickel.

    Very hypocritical of them.

Agree MtD, nothing to be proud of there.

Oh btw, where were all these honest crime fighting citizens who have permits to carry in Texas when these 5 people were gunned down in seperate incidents?

    Thought not!
