Portugal Cops Reopen Madeleine McCann Case

Kate McCann fears she will now be charged over her daughter's death after Portuguese police accused her directly of killing Madeleine.

Police have now declared both Kate and Gerry McCann as formal suspects in the disappearance of the four-year-old.

Detectives alleged that Mrs McCann accidentally gave Madeleine a fatal overdose of sedatives.

They claimed she then engaged with her husband in a monumental cover-up.

It's emerged today that Mrs McCann had been offered a plea bargain deal - to confess in exchange for a 'light' sentence of perhaps, only two years.

Kate McCann 'fears she will be charged today' as police push for confession | the Daily Mail

I have been reluctant to point the finger before, although as in many of these cases which have been, there is no mystery abductor in the end & it is the parent's or a relative or someone else close to the victim (she is dead - of that there is no doubt). I have felt a lot of sympathy for these people but at the same time a nagging doubt. Call it a gut feeling.

Now it seems things are coming to light which were before unmentionable, due to public feeling & a bit of Keystone Thai-style Cops policing. The parent's are now prime suspects (probably were from day one but you can't go spouting that if you're the investigators) & it turns out the little girl's DNA has turned up in a hire car belonging to these two hired twenty five days after Madaline disappeared.

People may say that it could have passed from one item of clothing to another & under the car seat where it was found, but if you notice, the mother has had a different outfit on every single day that this case has been in the public eye & cross contamination is unlikely.

Also, what strikes me, is that she washed the teddy bear that she has been carrying every day. Would you want to wash it? I wouldn't.

Read the article for more in-deapth anaylis of what's what as there is too much to list here. There is an interesting related column by Amanda Platell who I have a lot of time for & she echos these sentiments.

Having had experience of being wrongfully accused of a crime - ahem - I am hesitant to outright say they did it, but there is something very wrong with their stories that just don't add up.

I always thought something was fishy, there are loads of holes in their story.
When they first called the cops the cops treated it as the kid wandered off cause the door was lying open, The daddy made a call to his sister that night and told her that the kid was abducted, the cops didn't mention abduction for 2 or 3 days after it happened.
Why would they specifically look for a hotel with child services and then not use them?
They seem very happy to be in the spotlight and jet from country to country chasing leads.
They have 2 other kids that they seem to have forgotton about now.

I'm no detective, but blood evidence in the car they rented 20 odd days after she disappeared don't sound so good.

Does anyone remember the Chamberlins (Lindy and Mike) going back a few years I know, but blood under a car seat was enough to convict her and her husband, then after a jumpsuit was found confirming her story all charges were dropped. Lets keep an open mind, it seems very familiar.

what is the theory then? the parents killed her -- hid the body and moved it 25 days later? what about the witness seeing a man carrying a little girl dressed in pink pj's from the crime scene? was he involved as well? if this is the only evidence even if it comes to trial a conviction for murder will not be obtained.

were the police really so inept as to allow the parents to go unserveiled (sp?) and move the body?

Where would they have hidden the body for 25 days so that it would remain undiscovered despite the search, given that they are in an unfamiliar place on holiday, and had about a three hour or so window in which to do so?

You would also think that if the police have been listening in on their intimate conversations for the last month, that they would know for a fact if they're genuine or not, they must talk about the situation in private.

    Intriguing....

There is also a barman saying both parents were in a pub miles away from where they said they were at the time, too.

    Witness accounts can be cobblers.

The accidental drug overdose sounds very unlikely, when it's a doctor dealing with her own daughter. What would be the need to hide the body and go through all this, when a phonecall to the ambulance saying that the girl had found the sedatives after they had been left lying around would suffice to get you off the hook?

One thing I picked up in the initial reports , and which was forgotten in the publicity circus that followed , was that this couple left infant children alone in an apartment while they went out to dinner.

Speaking as a parent , this unacceptable.

If you have young children you get babysitters , take them out with you or curtail your social life.

Even if they didn't do it , it would not have happened had they not left their children unattended. This realisation has caused me moments of mild nausea when I saw these two parading their woes before any camera they could find.

Whne I saw the thread title, I already knew what the question was gonna be.

I have thought they did it (accidentally) since about week 2 of this debacle.

This guy makes a good argument that it is the Portuguese police who are fuk-ups and desperate and so now doing this in a frame up. In the Jon Benet case it's also been a pathetic non stop cluster fuk of incompetence from day one though the John Mark Karr fiasco.

I also have had a gut feeling that there has been something wrong in this case, and really hope that I am wrong. If however something is proved against them, then they should have the whole book thrown at them, including charges of wasting police time, embezalment (ie the fighting fund for them to stay in Portugal), and probably a host of other charges.
