Kate McCann fears she will now be charged over her daughter's death after Portuguese police accused her directly of killing Madeleine.
Police have now declared both Kate and Gerry McCann as formal suspects in the disappearance of the four-year-old.
Detectives alleged that Mrs McCann accidentally gave Madeleine a fatal overdose of sedatives.
They claimed she then engaged with her husband in a monumental cover-up.
It's emerged today that Mrs McCann had been offered a plea bargain deal - to confess in exchange for a 'light' sentence of perhaps, only two years.

I have been reluctant to point the finger before, although as in many of these cases which have been, there is no mystery abductor in the end & it is the parent's or a relative or someone else close to the victim (she is dead - of that there is no doubt). I have felt a lot of sympathy for these people but at the same time a nagging doubt. Call it a gut feeling.
Now it seems things are coming to light which were before unmentionable, due to public feeling & a bit of Keystone Thai-style Cops policing. The parent's are now prime suspects (probably were from day one but you can't go spouting that if you're the investigators) & it turns out the little girl's DNA has turned up in a hire car belonging to these two hired twenty five days after Madaline disappeared.
People may say that it could have passed from one item of clothing to another & under the car seat where it was found, but if you notice, the mother has had a different outfit on every single day that this case has been in the public eye & cross contamination is unlikely.
Also, what strikes me, is that she washed the teddy bear that she has been carrying every day. Would you want to wash it? I wouldn't.
Read the article for more in-deapth anaylis of what's what as there is too much to list here. There is an interesting related column by Amanda Platell who I have a lot of time for & she echos these sentiments.
Having had experience of being wrongfully accused of a crime - ahem - I am hesitant to outright say they did it, but there is something very wrong with their stories that just don't add up.
