You'll never persuade TDs resident jerkins that even kids need to consider the foolishness of carrying what looks like a gun and then not following police orders to lay it down.

Tragic result, but good on the officers for taking him down instead of risking their own and perhaps other lives by waiting for social services to arrive.

Just saw where a bunch of people were demonstrating against the shooting. I wonder if it will turn into another Zimmerman?

In the US, Mexicans generally don't protest as long or hard as Negroes (probably because many are in the country illegally), and the fact that the shooter was a cop will probably quell any serious attempts at a lynch mob.

Maybe it's my age or the environment I live in but I wouldn't have given a kid carrying a toy gun a second look, would never have occurred to me that it might be a real weapon.

    ^ Here's one.

Texas boy, 5, fatally shoots himself with napping babysitter's gun
    Published October 23, 2013FoxNews.com
A southeast Texas woman has been arrested and charged in the death of a 5-year-old boy who died in her care after he apparently shot himself with her gun while she was napping.

Melissa Ringhardt, 19, of Vidor, faces charges of abandoning or endangering a child. She was arraigned Wednesday with bond set at $250,000, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office said Ringhardt was baby-sitting John Read in his Vidor home on Monday when he accidentally shot himself with the .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun.

Ringhardt, who was arrested Tuesday, was living with the Read family and the parents were gone during the shooting, according to authorities. The couple's 6-month-old child was also at the residence but wasn't hurt.
12NewsNow.com reported that Ringhardt told investigators was carrying the handgun because she was afraid to be home alone. The pistol was apparently left on a coffee table in the living room when she took a nap.

Ringhardt awoke to find John deceased in the living room and brought both children to the grandparent's house to get help, according to a sheriff's department news release.

It is a shame, but, the parents should have known when a gun looks real there are chances that it will be considered real.

Common sense, intelligence and judgement are qualities increasingly in short supply in most societies but where the bar is set at a relatively low level, such as in the USA and other developing countries, travesties are inevitably more frequent.

The idiocy of Lt. Drebbin of the Naked Gun series is seemingly the template for what passes now for law enforcement in septic land.

Americans really are quite awful, aren't they?

It's not if you're talking about the stupidity of the people. But a very big difference is that very few Filipinos can afford guns. And, you can't buy one legally without a lot of paperwork. And, even if you have a legally purchased and licensed weapon, you can't carry it, openly or concealed, without another permit which is extremely hard to obtain (and expensive). Thus, most firearm crimes are either high-end, like bank robberies, using automatic weapons either obtained from, or wielded by, ex-military or police. Other provincial handguns crimes are usually done with a variety of homemade guns, much as in Thailand.

So, the people are no brighter, but they sure don't have the ready access to guns that Americans do, Hope that answers your question.

Armed law enforcement officers are there to protect the public as well as themselves when faced with lethal force.

There are many instances where officers respond to 'shots already fired' incidents. If they were merely concerned about their own safety then most likely they would be making themselves a cup of coffeee before attending, when the carnage would be well and truly over.

To serve and protect the public 68 police officers were gunned down in the US in 2011 which i suspect would be seen as an acceptable number of deaths to those who wish to continue to play with their 'toys' and aren't personally affected by those losses.

The intellectually challenged and firearms are not a very good mixture as clearly demonstrated by the number of firearm fatalities/incidents in america. The story continues.........

It seems current Left-leaning principles are geared to the lowest common denominator, or less politely, retards who need to be protected from themselves.

    Jesus Christ,

68 cops died in 2011, these guys get payed around 100 k a year to deal with the shit of society. ?????

Firefighters die every year because some arsonist has torched a building for no good reason.

I mean what do the tax payers expect ?

If people are so traumatized by this incident I suggest they go put on the uniform and experience life as a front line Emergency worker.

Only then could they experience why this poor kid payed with his life for his actions that day.

Absolute tragedy all round and no winners here. The poor kid is dead and the cop will never forget what has happened.

More than likely another decent Cop pensioned out on a section 4.

Similar principles apply to the wearing of seat belts/crash helmets when travelling on public roads. The resistance to that legislation was also evident by those who still wished to have a choice. Of course that choice still remains but it comes at a price in the form of incurring serious injury or fines.

Sadly, some of those who considered themselves to be immortal will often be photographed lying in pools of blood on the highways around Pattaya/Phuket and later at the morgue. Much in common with those who seriously believe they are responsible gun owners.

Wow, only 68 of more than 33,000 homicides by firearms in this year in the US, and 'gunned down' doesn't even mean 'shot dead'. Policeman must be the safest occupation in terms of bulletproofness. Comes with the license to use deadly force at their own discretion, I guess.

    Subjective opinion that one.

I really don't think a policeman feels very safe at all when they are looking down the barrel of a gun. There vests cover the torso only so that leaves there head, arms and legs as a prime target.

Not very safe at all I would say, 50-50 chance at best that the bad guy will pop a cap in the vest.

Also the last thing a cop wants to do is have to resort to his gun as his protection, if he needs to do that it means his life or the life of the public is being threatened and his aim is protect those.

The person pointing the gun in the officers direction is now considered a prime target. That's what they get payed to do. Also they want to go home at night to there family.

I have worked with many ex cops over the course of my career. I can assure you that the threats and shit they deal with on a daily basis is something Joe public will never know.

A thankless highly dangerous career choice with very average financial reward for there effort.

100K a year to deal with the dregs of society. Fuck that.

To put it into perspective around the same number of officers have been shot and killed whilst on duty in the History of British Policing as died in similar circumstances in the US in 2011.

Arming one's citizens has and always will be a recipe for disaster.
