International Appeal to Identify Mystery Girl Found in Greek Gypsy Camp Raid

    Here's a good news story -

    Free at last

BBC News - Greek police appeal over mystery blonde girl

Greek police are trying to discover the identity of a young blonde girl who was found living on a Roma settlement with a family she did not resemble.
DNA tests revealed the child, called Maria and aged about four, was not related to the couple she lived with.
The little girl is now being looked after by a charity. Her photo has been released to help find her family.
Officials believe she may have been a victim of abduction or child trafficking.

Raid Police raided the Roma camp, near Farsala in central Greece, to search for drugs and weapons.

The little girl was allegedly being used to beg on the streets

They noticed the lack of resemblance between the blonde-haired, green-eyed, pale-skinned little girl and her parents, and found further discrepancies when they investigated the family's documents.
The couple had registered different numbers of children with different regional family registries.
The woman claimed to have given birth to six children within a 10-month period.

    Pure filth
Good job it was Greece and not some politically correct country, where it would be considered impolite to ask why this lot had a little blond girl with them ....

They are not short of food.

    She looks Scandinavian or Dutch.

Irish Travellers also called Gypsies or Knackers have similar looks as that wee girl.

That is a bit below the belt, the Mc Cann's appeal is bringing more media and public interest onto cases of missing children than was ever done.

I find your comment is horrible and mean.

Is it fukk. If they had been council house dwellers rather than Doctors the pieces of shite they are would have been banged up for negligence. Do not feel sorry for those people.

I hope you would not leave your children as they left theirs?
I would post pictures but life's too short.

Seems the case is being used for propaganda against the gypsies; I agree with that and wish those people were dispatched back to India. Should be no problem for the authorities to find out where the girl came from, the gypsy parents know where they picked her up, and I see no reason why they shouldn't disclose the information, or can't be made to do so. DNA tests also point to the location where the girl originated. Gypsies are not very mobile using ox carts for transportation, the girl is very likely either Greek, Albanian, Yugoslavian or Bulgarian. My bet is that she wasn't abducted, but a knocked-up whore from Bulgaria gave her away because she couldn't care for her.

I just looked it up on CNN. I had followed the case there. The comments were like nothing else I have ever read, but they are now deleted, not a single comment left.

Hitler should have killed them all, was the most extreme but not by much. There was barely any comment that did not pour spite over the Gypsies. Of course lots of news article draaw this kind of comment. But on that girls case it was way over 90% in that class, and there were very many comments.

The latest news at CNN is that their lawyer has claimed they got the child from the mother. It was not a legal adoption but they can identify the biological mother.

It is also stated at CNN that the family according to records has 14 other children. Let's see where they all are and where they come from. 3 or 4 children with birth spaced within a few month don't sound biological possible.

Irish knackers aren't gypos Bb, they're descended from the Scandinvians (Vikingeren) who founded Dublin, and were cast out '"beyond the pale" (the palings, the barricades) that constituted Dublin's early defences for the Normans when they invaded Eire.

So disenfranchised and unlanded, they were driven from pillar to post and established a close knit commumity of travellers, not unlike the Gypsies who arrived fro Romania and Eastern Europe much later.

The Irish travellers took on several trades to survive, including butchering and leather tanning, knackering horses and any other livestock as one of their trades, and tinkering with metals, becoming so called tinkers in the process, and again, not unlike their Gypsy fellow travellers, smiths, wheelwrights, cartwrights, carters, wainwrights and journeymen.

Those names live on in Traveller clans as they do with Gypsys, as Smith, Carter and so on.

I've lived and worked many years with Travellers, Gypsies and other people of the road, and enjoyed my time with them, finding them an honourable people once an understanding was established and a deal struck.

I've had mu y run ins with them too, but over all, I can trust them, as long as I first establish my place among them, otherwise the'll just deal to me as they would with any intimidating gajo.

But if they call me swbla or I have a faithful bjor with me, I'm safe.

I'd rather trust a Knacker than a businessman any day.

Getting back to the thread topic, though, yup, them Roms in question are kiddy farming, for the income, as they can get SFA from the state unless they give up their travelling, which to me, seems to be a way of forcing them into oblivion.

The Gypsy and Traveller people have always been a problem to the settled and landed folk, Hitler's policy towards them murderously exemplifying that.

Maybe the wee girl is in fact from another Traveller family fostered out to the Gypsies, they do mix to a degree, they have a common oppressor society to deal with who'll lie to and cheat and abuse them as much as they can, so the Gypsies and Travellers feel entitled to give the same in return, after centuries of stateless and proper status oppression and persecution.

A difficult situation to understand for most folk.

Irish police find blonde-haired, blue eyed girl in Dublin Roma camp

Irish police have taken a blonde-haired, blue eyed girl from a Roma family in Dublin, in a case which bears remarkable similarities to that of Maria in Greece
A blonde-haired, blue eyed girl has been discovered living among Roma gipsies in Ireland – five days after a girl in Greece was found in near identical circumstances.
Irish police, the gardai, were tipped off about the seven-year-old girl by people who noticed that she looked nothing like her supposed siblings. The family were living in the Tallaght area of south Dublin, with several children at the house when the police arrived on Monday afternoon.
The parents claimed that the child was born in the Coombe hospital in Dublin in April 2006. But when gardai contacted the hospital, they had no record of the child having been born on the date the parents claimed. The child has been taken into care and authorities are awaiting the results of a DNA test.
Nobody has been arrested and gardai are trying to confirm the information given to them from the Roma parents.
The Sunday World newspaper claimed the family have lived in Ireland for years but it is understood they regularly go back to Romania.

An angel kidnapped by Gypsies? In the absence of all the facts, age-old libels are being replayed

Reporting of the Greek 'blonde angel' case is all the more bitter for those who know the myths that have dogged Romany history.

    Louise Doughty

The Guardian, Tuesday 22 October 2013 16.05 BST

She is, we have been told repeatedly, the girl Greece is calling "the blonde angel".
She is certainly blonde – and she is a young child who deserves concern as all children do, particularly those facing poverty or discrimination.

Whether or not she is angelic is a matter of stereotype rather than personality. She is angelic in the eyes of the media only in stark contrast to the circumstances in which she was found: in a Roma camp in Greece, with dark-skinned parents who, DNA tests have revealed, cannot be her birth parents.

The pair appeared in court on Monday charged with child abduction, but are said by their lawyer to be distraught at the forcible removal of a child they were raising as their daughter.

Whatever the truth of Maria's origins, one element of this case is not in doubt. Even before charges were brought, it was widely reported as a case of abduction.

The pursuit of Gerry and Kate McCann and the mother of Ben Needham for reaction to the story will have cemented that impression in the eyes of many; they have been "given hope", apparently.

Maria's case may even, it seems, have prompted the seizure by police in Dublin today of another child from a Roma community after members of the public raised concerns that the child may not be biologically related to the couple she was living with.

Informal adoption is commonplace, of course, particularly in societies where children are raised collectively by extended family units, and families of eight or 10 are not unusual.

Across the world, children in economically difficult circumstances are left with grandparents, aunts and uncles, or sometimes given away because the birth parents simply cannot provide for them.

This is hardly a practice unique to Roma society, and it is a long way from deliberate abduction for the purposes of "child trafficking", an assumption that the non-Roma world has been happy to make with impunity.

This media reporting has to be seen within the context of a blood libel that has dogged Roma communities for centuries.

The claim that Jewish people killed Christian children to have human blood for matzos at Passover was used to justify antisemitism throughout the middle ages; in the same way, the age-old myth that Romanies are in the habit of kidnapping white children entered popular folklore around the same time, and has persisted to the present day.

Fictional stereotypes of Romany women revolve around their supposed sexual licentiousness – Carmen or Esmeralda – or their psychic powers; whereas Romany men have been portrayed at best as symbols of wild freedom, as in DH Lawrence's The Virgin and the Gypsy or at worst, as liars and thieves.

The parenting skills and passionate love for children patently demonstrated in Roma communities of all types rarely seem to get a mention, strangely enough.

But as the Slovakian Roma writer Ilona Lackova said in her autobiography, A False Dawn, "we cannot understand how you would not give a child a smile even if it is not yours". If a youngster falls over and hurts him or herself in a Roma camp, it's the business of any adult or older child nearby to provide comfort.

The head of the Greek charity that has custody of Maria reported that she was "dirty" and "terrified": that she may have been dirty because of the appalling hygiene conditions in which many Roma are forced to live by poverty and terrified at being removed from her family was not noted.

The racist reporting of the Greek case is all the more bitter to those familiar with Roma history. Renowned expert Prof Thomas Acton says, "I know of no documented case of Roma/Gypsies/Travellers stealing non-Gypsy children anywhere."

Far from Romanies abducting white children, the truth has been the other way around. In the same way that Aboriginal children were removed from their families in Australia, hundreds of Yenish Roma boys and girls were forcibly taken by the authorities in Switzerland from 1926 to 1972.

The children were placed in orphanages or homes for the mentally handicapped and their families denied all contact with them.

Criminal gangs that exploit children exist in every society – particularly poor ones – but the persistent linking of child abduction with Roma ethnicity per se is nothing more than the perpetuation of a racist medieval myth.

We don't yet know the truth of the adoption of Maria by the community in which she was found, and this myth should be consigned to the historical dustbin.

Blonde girl (7) taken from Roma family in Dublin

This is the second blonde child taken from Romanians in two weeks

Blonde girl (7) taken from Roma family in Dublin

Tom Brady, Ken Foy and Kevin Doyle – 22 October 2013

A SEVEN-year-old girl has been taken by gardai from a Roma family in Dublin.
The blonde haired and blue eyed girl is now being looked after by the HSE.

The HSE is applying for an interim care order for the child removed.

The Child Protection Unit at Tallaght Garda station received a call from a member of the public concerned about a child who was living with a Roma family.

It is understood that the person who called the gardai received a message on their Facebook account or saw a message on Facebook from somebody and alerted gardai to this matter.
The gardai had prior dealings with the family and they decided to visit the house in Tallaght in south county Dublin at around 4:30pm yesterday afternoon to check out the report.

The couple insisted that the girl was their daughter and said she had been born in 2006.

But garda checks at Dublin city hospitals failed to produce satisfactory evidence to back up the claim and the girl's birth certificate could not be found.

Senior sources said that “serious issues around the birth certificate of the child which suggests that the Roma couple may not be her parents”.

Gardai also consulted experts to establish if it was physically possible for a Roma couple to give birth to a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Using powers available under section 12 of the Child Care Act, a garda sergeant took the girl from the couple and handed her over to the HSE.

An application for an emergency child care order was made this morning in the district court.

The girl can be kept in the care of the HSE for another month and the authorities must then either hand the girl back to the family or seek a more permanent care order.

In the meantime, gardai hope to take DNA samples from the parents and from the girl to establish if they are related.
Gardai said this afternoon that inquiries were continuing to establish the identity of the girl.

The Tallaght case is similar to the current controversy in Greece where police have taken a little girl, known as Maria, into care and arrested a couple, who claimed to be her parents.

The article heading is incorrect. Romas are not Romanians unless they happen to have settled in Romania.

Greece Roma child case starts fraud probe

Christos Salis and Eleftheria Dimopoulou with the girl known only as Maria (AP)

    23 October 2013

Greece is holding an emergency nationwide fraud investigation into birth certificates sparked by the case of the young girl found living in a gypsy camp.
Supreme Court prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani ordered the inquiry for certificates issued after January 1, 2008, amid reports of benefit fraud by families declaring births in multiple regions.

Experts have used the case to point out the severe weaknesses in the country's birth registration system.

The mayor of Athens has suspended three officials in charge of record-keeping. New parents have three months to declare the births. Investigators found many babies had been recently declared at or near the end of that deadline, raising suspicions some were multiple declarations to claim benefits.
A Roma couple are being held in custody charged with abduction and document fraud in the case of the girl known only as Maria. The girl, believed to be five or six, was taken into protective care last week after DNA tests established the couple were not her biological parents.
Christos Salis, 39, and Eleftheria Dimopoulou, 40, deny the abduction allegations, claiming they received the child from a destitute woman to bring up as their own.

Dimopoulou claimed to have given birth to six children in less than 10 months, while 10 of the 14 children the couple had registered as their own are unaccounted for.

Police say the couple received about 2,500 euros (£2,120) a month in subsidies from three different cities.

when kids are begging ,,,which is more shocking to your average joe public

a dirty, black-haired, browned eyed girl or
a dirty, blond haired blue eyed girl. ?

Soz. who rakes in the most dosh. ?

Horrible question. But life on the streets for some Roma's is very rewarding.
As back home in Bulgaria and Romania they have nice homes bought and paid for and BMW's parked outside.
When asked why they come to London to beg,, investigative reporters are chased away by broom wielding women.

Did not enjoy writing this post but reality is brutal on the streets.
And people get conned quite easily.

As I said in my post #2, the kid looks like a Traveller kid from Eire, snatched or swapped/traded there or in UK or anywhere in Europe these days as the Knackers (aka Irish Travellers or Irish Gypsies or Tinkers) get a cross the Channel more often than they used to ten years ago.

The kid would be quite happy with her Roma family, a travelling life and culture is all she's known, no matter how "settled" her foster family might be from time to time.

^ Following on from that Billy....

I had a pitch in the Milk Market, Limerick Eire a few years ago, and the Knacker kids would come up and try their tricks on me, cadging for anything.

One bright spark, feeling sorry for me as I was struggling to sell much that day, said,

"Oh man, why doncha get a cocoa tin with a hole in the lid and a picture of the pope on the front and rattle it, you'd make a fortune!"

    He was right.
