Roma family in Ireland reunited with daughter after DNA test

Roma family in Ireland reunited with daughter after DNA test - CNN.com

Dublin, Ireland (CNN) -- Two blonde, blue-eyed girls taken from Roma couples. Authorities turn to DNA tests for answers.

For a family in Ireland, it's proof the girl is indeed their biological daughter.

For a girl in Greece, the mystery remains as to who she is and who her real parents are.

In Dublin, a 7-year-old girl whom Irish police took from a Roma couple two days ago was reunited with her parents.

A DNA test confirmed she is their daughter, a source familiar with the case's legal proceedings told CNN on Wednesday.
Police, acting on a tip, had removed from the girl Monday and placed her in protective care.

The Roma mother and father -- who live in the suburb of Tallaght -- told CNN that they have a passport for the girl, but that they did not call her by the name on the passport.

The couple, who appeared to be very upset by the situation, also showed CNN photos of the girl.

The parents appeared in family court earlier Wednesday, after which their attorney said the couple is going to take some time before considering its legal options, the British Press Association reported.

"Her parents greatly appreciate the help and assistance that they have been given by friends and relatives over the last few days," Waheed Mudah told the PA. "They now intend to concentrate on looking after their family and, in particular, in trying to reassure their daughter that she will be their care."

It certainly can happen alright, but I reckon the daddy in this case possibly wasn't a dark skinned Roma, or maybe there was a touch of the Irish Traveller running around in their ancestral background.

The wee girl's DNA didn't have to match both parents DNA, only the mother's to prove she weren't nicked or adopted.

I told gardai who took my boy 'please don't make him cry, don't make him upset'

Iancu Muntean (2) with his mum Loredaiva Sava and dad Iancu Muntean outside their home in Meadowbrook Estate, Athlone.
    Louise Hogan – 24 October 2013 02:30 PM

THE parents of a blond-haired Roma boy have revealed they pleaded in distress that he was their son and offered to undergo a DNA test as he was taken from them overnight.
Iancu Muntean (22), a resident in Ireland since 2005, told how gardai came to his home late on Tuesday with questions over the identity of his two-and-a-half-year-old son Iancu Jnr.

Standing outside his home in a housing estate in Athlone, Co Westmeath, as his son played in the background, Mr Muntean told how his son was born in 2011 in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe and produced a birth certificate.

The father, and his girlfriend Loredaiva Sava (23), from Bucharest, Romania, mother of both Iancu Jnr and his sister Regina (4), were extremely distressed and unable to sleep after the boy was separated from the family overnight.

"I say to guards 'what make you take my baby?'" said Mr Muntean, adding he queried who was responsible for it. "When somebody take your kid you feel sick, you feel bad."

The father described being extremely confused as to why he was being questioned to the identity of his child. In addition to providing a passport and birth cert, the father-of-two said he also volunteered to undertake a DNA test.

"I was shocked but it is the guards. I said to guards 'you have power I don't have power'. What can I do? I don't make trouble," he said.

After going to the garda station at 7pm on Tuesday night, the father told how it was a number of hours before gardai told them they had to "take" his son for one night

He described how the gardai asked him if he had seen the case of the blonde-haired girl removed from a Roma family in Tallaght.

He replied he had not, adding gardai told him "in Tallaght they were taking people as well". Mr Muntean told them he didn't care about other incidents but insisted "this is my kid".

    RELIEVED

He later agreed to let the child be kept overnight. He also asked to place the child in the car himself as he didn't want his son to cry as it made him ill.

"I said 'please don't make him cry, don't make him upset'. I put him in the car, I put the seatbelt on. I say 'please bring my son home, I'll give you whatever you want, just take me and my girlfriend away and not my son'," he pleaded.

No mention of what these 2 Roma do for money
Guess if he had a job it would have been mentioned by the PC journalists, and consider it unfair to point out they are typical immigrant scum -ie welfare tourists .

    Nasty , selfish trash .

Either the father is not the biolgical father , or some kid stolen a generation or 2 ago, genes have resurfaced..

Has Maria's mother been found? Bulgarian couple have DNA tests.

Woman admitted on Bulgarian television she gave up a child in Greece four years ago
    THURSDAY 24 OCTOBER 2013

The biological family of a child found living in a Roma settlement could be living in Bulgaria, after a woman admitted to giving up a baby girl in Greece four years ago.

The discovery of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl living with a Roma family in Greece last week sparked an international investigation after DNA tests proved the girl was not biologically related to a couple who initially claimed to be her parents.

Police have traced leads to a Bulgarian woman, who says she gave birth 'several years ago' at a hospital which, reports suggest, is only an hour south of the settlement where the child was discovered last week.

The woman, named by local media organisations as Sasha Ruseva, 38, is now speaking with police. The Bulgarian interior ministry has confirmed that DNA samples have been taken.

Ms Ruseva reportedly has eight children, some of whom appear to resemble Maria.

Speaking to Bulgarian TV, Ruseva said that she gave birth to a girl while working in Greece but that she had to leave the child because she didn't have enough money to take her home.

"I intended to go back and take my child home, but meanwhile I gave birth to two more kids so I was not able to go back," Ruseva said, insisting that she did not get paid for giving up the girl.

However, she denied reports that she had received any form of payment.

Christos Salis and Eletheria Dimopoulou, aged 39 and 40, have been arrested and charged with abduction and document fraud. They claim they received the child from a destitute Bulgarian woman and raised her with her own five children.

The mayor of Nikolaevo confirmed that Ms Ruseva and her husband Atanas had gone to the authorities to find out if the girl is their daughter.

Two of Sasha and Atanas Ruseva's children
Greek news site zougla.gr published Ms Ruseva's identity card and what it claims is a birth certificate for Maria. Hospital records show she gave birth to a child on 31 January 2009, the birthday given by the couple accused of abducting Maria.

A Bulgarian Roma woman believed to be the real mother of the ‘blonde angel’ found in a Greek gypsy camp declared yesterday: ‘I want her back.’

Mother-of-ten Sasha Ruseva, 35, claims she did not sell Maria, now four, but was forced to leave her daughter with a friend in Greece as a baby because she could not afford the legal documents required to take her home to Bulgaria.
But the Daily Mail can reveal that a woman of her name has twice previously been arrested for trying to sell babies in Greece – and on both occasions skipped bail.

Mother-of-ten Sasha Ruseva, 35, whose children are pictured here, claims she did not sell Maria.

A woman with the name Sasha Ruseva has twice previously been arrested for trying to sell babies in Greece

Mrs Ruseva, who was just 13 when she had her first child, said she was pregnant with Maria when she went to Greece to work as a field hand on a farm with her husband.
She said her eldest daughter remained in Bulgaria to look after her other children but that arrangement stopped when she got married and wanted to move out, forcing Mrs Ruseva to return home.
She claimed she could not bring Maria back with her as the Greek authorities required she pay ‘hundreds of euros’ for a birth certificate for her daughter, which she could not afford.
She said: ‘I gave birth to Maria about four and a half years ago. I can’t remember the exact date.
‘I cared for Maria for seven months but I had to come back to Bulgaria look after my other children.
‘I left my daughter with my room-mate. She is also Roma. When I left Maria I asked the woman to send her to Bulgaria. But she hasn’t. I cannot remember her name, it was four years ago.
‘I missed Maria but I don’t have any money so I did not know what to do. I called the woman several times and I knew she was safe and well. I don’t know why she kept her so long, why they did not send her back to me.
‘I don’t have enough money to call the woman in Greece any more so I stopped trying to get in touch with her. I didn’t know what was happening with my child. But I have never stopped wanting her, she is my own flesh and blood.’

I wasn't aware that Roma were Xtian. They have a godess/protectress called Kali Sara, and take on the religion of whichever country they live in at the time, Xtian, Muslim or any local belief system.
