Snowden on his way to Venezuela?

It appears that Edward Snowdon is on his way to Venezuela. He flew from HongKong to Moscow, and is said to fly via Cuba to Venezuela.

On CNN, senator Charles Schumer complained that Putin and the Chinese must have known of this trip, and that "allies shouldn't do this to each other".

First you sneaky eavesdrop on everyone, and then you complain that you haven't been informed. And call those you eavesdrop on your allies.

Complete dictionaries have to be rewritten to reflect the change in definition of words such as... ally, friend, eavesdrop... just to name a few.

One small remark to add to that: is PRISM down on Saturday nights? Didn't they know about Snowden's plan well before the Russians did?

Yes. This from the HK government is lovely:

Traditional Chinese Simplified Chinese Email this article news.gov.hk
HKSAR Government issues statement on Edward Snowden
    ************************************************** *

The HKSAR Government today (June 23) issued the following statement on Mr Edward Snowden:

Mr Edward Snowden left Hong Kong today (June 23) on his own accord for a third country through a lawful and normal channel.

The US Government earlier on made a request to the HKSAR Government for the issue of a provisional warrant of arrest against Mr Snowden. Since the documents provided by the US Government did not fully comply with the legal requirements under Hong Kong law, the HKSAR Government has requested the US Government to provide additional information so that the Department of Justice could consider whether the US Government's request can meet the relevant legal conditions. As the HKSAR Government has yet to have sufficient information to process the request for provisional warrant of arrest, there is no legal basis to restrict Mr Snowden from leaving Hong Kong.

The HKSAR Government has already informed the US Government of Mr Snowden's departure.

Meanwhile, the HKSAR Government has formally written to the US Government requesting clarification on earlier reports about the hacking of computer systems in Hong Kong by US government agencies. The HKSAR Government will continue to follow up on the matter so as to protect the legal rights of the people of Hong Kong.

    Ends/Sunday, June 23, 2013
    Issued at HKT 16:05

It is lovely, I love the final statement "...the HKSAR Government has formally written to the US Government requesting clarification ..." from this supposed ally.
Do I see a middlefinger there?

The USA doesn't have allies. It has client states. Good move by Putin. Perhaps Mr Snowden will show the Ruskies what the US has been snooping on and doing in Russia.

The minute Snowden came out and blew the whistle,it is so obvious that the PRISM bosses will seek revenge.
Snowden has exposed the Mobsters that have been getting away with crime, the Bankers and Government. They should be prosecuted for their crimes, but no they have friends in high places. It is only poor people who go to prison.

It is - but this time its not about an alledged killer, but about a man who proved that someone is sneaky reading your and my email and stuff.

In the name of security. Who's?

They say you can't have 100% security with 100% privacy. Of course you can't. No one asks that. In fact, 100% security is impossible.
What did I get? 1% extra security? And 20% loss of privacy? Don't tell me its hard to measure - it wasnt me who started the 100% security thing.

I always wonder - Obama and Bush, do they sneaky go through their wifes' email and text messages? Coz there is a remote chance that these women aren't faithfull.

A good article on atimes about 3 previous whistleblowers in the NSA and what they think about Snowdons strategy

Asia Times Online :: Snowden and the three wise NSA whistleblowers

Q: Did Edward Snowden do the right thing in going public?

William Binney: We tried to stay for the better part of seven years inside the government trying to get the government to recognize the unconstitutional, illegal activity that they were doing and openly admit that and devise certain ways that would be constitutionally and legally acceptable to achieve the ends they were really after. And that just failed totally because no one in Congress or - we couldn't get anybody in the courts, and certainly the Department of Justice and inspector general's office didn't pay any attention to it. And all of the efforts we made just produced no change whatsoever. All it did was continue to get worse and expand.

Q: So Snowden did the right thing?

Binney: Yes, I think he did.

Q: You three wouldn't criticize him for going public from the start?

    J. Kirk Wiebe: Correct.

Binney: In fact, I think he saw and read about what our experience was, and that was part of his decision-making.

    Wiebe: We failed, yes.

    That's the location/destination that I've heard...
More than a few South American countries have come forth to offer their assistance - no extradition and whatnot.

A common theme throughout the southern hemisphere....
Anti-Americanism. And not the best relations with the good old USA.

Can't imagine how this would come about.....

Not arrived in Havana... Is he still in Russia?
    Applying for asylum there?
Probably smarter than Ecuador anyway, a regime change there and say goodbye to your asylum status.

    To be continued...

Not to mention that the Andean Trade and Drug Enforcement Act is up for renewal by the US congress at the end of July and non-renewal could cost Ecuador hundreds of thousands of jobs. It may not be the best political decision on the part of Ecuador to grant this guy asylum in the face of the internal political mess it could stir up there.

Snowdon would have been bound over to the Americans in HK but it seems Holder didn't word the arrest warrant correctly.

It's all a bit of a joke, and no doubt they are laughing in Beijing & Moscow at Washingtons discomfiture.
Snowden flies to HK. US govt warns HK & China. Snigger, onwards to Moscow. US warns Moscow. Snigger, onwards to.....
I reckon they should keep this game going for a few more places yet.
If they were so bothered about eddy babe flying the coop, why didn't they just place him under house arrest or detention in the first place?
