    Missing April Jones: Search Intensifies

Two helicopters are being deployed in the search for a missing youngster who was last seen getting into a van.

A local search team is calling for more volunteers in the hunt for a five-year-old girl believed to have been abducted.
April Jones was playing with friends near her home in the Mid Wales town of Machynlleth at around 7pm on Monday when she went missing.
She was last spotted by another child getting into a van wearing a purple knee-length coat with grey fur around the hood, a white polo top and black trousers, said police.
Police are to reveal more details about the vehicle
Two helicopters are being deployed to scour the area as part of intensive police operations. Hundreds of residents from the market town have joined in the hunt and are coordinating their efforts at the Machynlleth Leisure Centre.
Speaking from the centre, Inspector Lyn Rhys told locals he would divide them into search teams to avoid an overlap of work.
Police are expected to reveal further details during a press conference later on Tuesday.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: "Her abduction took place around 7pm in the Bryn Y Gog estate in Machynlleth. It was witnessed by another young child when April was seen getting into a grey or light-coloured van, or van-sized vehicle.
"While the details of what happened are vague at the current time, it appears the suspect left the scene and drove off with April."
Machynlleth is a small market town surrounded by countryside
Meanwhile volunteer Anwen Morris appealed for more people to come forward and help. Many have already taken time off work to look for April and have been out through the night on quad bikes and off-road vehicles.
Ms Morris told Sky News: "We need bodies down here. We need people in cars, we need people on foot to search the town. We need people up on the mountain. We need anybody that is in the area that can help."
Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan of Dyfed-Powys Police told Sky News that because the initial account of April's abduction came from children, police were involved in a "delicate and lengthy process" to get the best information.
He said: "Hopefully, later this morning I'll have some more details around the vehicle, specific details, and we are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry around that vehicle, where it may or may not be at this moment in time."
April was playing on the Bryn Y Gog estate
The town, which sits on the southern outskirts of Snowdonia National Park, only has a population of 2,000.
Powys County Councils said refuse and recycling collections had been suspended in the town on Tuesday so council staff could help with the search.
Local restaurant owner Razul Islam told Sky News: "There are hundreds of people out looking for her."
"It is such a small town and nearly everyone is out looking for her - I'm shocked that it has happened in a town like this."
Local petrol station owner Nerys Zjalic said she reopened her garage to help with the search.
"My friend called to ask if we would open so people can get petrol to help in the search. Locals are out in full force searching for her."
April had been out riding a bike before she vanished
Ms Zjalic, who knows the missing girl's family, said people had been coming from far and wide to help with the search.
"It's unbelievable - you just don't think that something like that would happen in a small town like Machynlleth.
"Nothing will be the same again - this is a small little market town and you think children are quite safe, but this shows us it's not the case."
People have taken off time from work to help with the hunt
Chris Dudley, who works at the Skinners Arms pub on Penrallt Street, said all the locals were out looking for her on Monday night, including in "the cemeteries, the golf field, playing field, everywhere you can think of."
Police have asked anyone with information to call them on 0300 200 0333.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested by police searching for a five-year-old girl abducted from her street in mid Wales.
April Jones was with friends near her Machynlleth home when she "willingly" got into a van at 19:00 BST on Monday.
Police said they are continuing their search in order to bring her home to her family.
Officers also thanked emergency services and hundreds of people have joined the search for the child.
Speaking at a news conference in Aberystwyth, Det Supt Reg Bevan said: "Within the last hour we have arrested a 46-year-old man from the Machynlleth area who has been detained at Aberystwyth Police Station.
"We made the arrest just outside Machynlleth and we're hopeful that the individual will assist in locating April who is still missing."
"We're still pursuing all lines of inquiry with the view that April is still alive and will continue to do so until we find her."
During an earlier news conference on Tuesday, Det Supt Bevan said police had gleaned more information from children who had been playing with April shortly before she went missing near her home on the Bryn Y Gog estate.
He said the children had told police the vehicle involved looked like a van.
"They describe it as small at the front and large at the back, so it could be interpreted that this could be something similar to a Ford Connect type van or a Land Rover," he said.
"Furthermore April has been described as getting into the driver's side of the vehicle. This may be because she got in with the driver or that it is left hand drive vehicle.
"We still believe that the van is grey or light coloured, but again these things can be affected by failing light and street lamps.
"The indications are that she got into the vehicle willingly... There's nothing to suggest at this stage there was a struggle."
Det Supt Bevan added that police were concentrating efforts in the immediate vicinity following specialist advice.

"Let our beautiful little girl come home to us", plead April Jones' parents - Telegraph

Paul and Coral Jones issued the appeal as searches for their daughter carried on through Tuesday night, following the arrest of a 46-year-old man on suspicion of her abduction.

Police in Mid Wales have found no sign of the schoolgirl, who was abducted in Machynlleth, near Aberystwyth, at 7pm on Monday, despite the arrest of Mark Bridger, a former soldier, and searches of his home and the L-reg Land Rover Discovery in which April is believed to have been taken.

With hopes of finding April alive starting to fade, her parents issued their urgent appeal through the police. They said: "Last night our lives were shattered when our beautiful little girl April, who was playing with friends, was taken from us.

"We are devastated and our lives have stopped. Please, please, if you have our little girl let her come home to us.

"This is such a small, close-knit community and we plead with anyone who has any information, no matter how small they may think it is, to contact the police immediately. Please help us to bring home our beautiful little girl."
Police made an intensive search of riverbanks near the family’s home after Mr Bridger, a father-of-six, was held at 3.30pm on Tuesday.
Coastguards, police divers and search teams on foot concentrated their efforts on one particular stretch of the Dyfi. Det Supt Reg Bevan, who is leading the inquiry, insisted he had not given up hope that April would be found alive, but as hundreds of friends and neighbours joined in the search for a second night, those hopes appeared to be fading.
April’s godmother, Mair Raftree, 41, said: "She is lovely, lovely, such a nice little character. We just want her back."

April was last seen alive by a seven-year-old friend, getting into a vehicle described as a light-coloured van as the two girls played on their bikes less than 100 yards from April’s home.
Mr Jones, 43, and his wife, 40, reported April missing immediately, and it emerged last night that they had told police who they suspected the driver of the car was.

Mr Bridger, who was known to April’s family and had lived near her at various times, was arrested as he walked along a main road to the north of the town.
Mr Bevan said: "We are still pursuing all lines of inquiry with a view that April is still alive and we will continue to do so until we find her." Police were last night interviewing members of Mr Bridger’s family for information about his movements on Monday evening.

Mark Bridger, right, was arrested on Tuesday

Neighbours said he was a former soldier who had worked as a lifeguard, a welder, and at a slaughterhouse. He had two vehicles, one of which was a left-hand drive Land Rover Discovery made in Spain.
Ben Edwards, 22, a neighbour, said: "He is a nice guy, and absolutely brilliant with his son and daughter. He was always putting his kids first."

He said Mr Bridger was "into his cars" and was "never the type to cause any trouble whatsoever".
Mr Edwards’s mother, Gloria, said she had seen Mr Bridger shortly before he was arrested. He was walking quickly towards the bridge that led into the town, wearing sunglasses and a khaki jacket and with his head down.
Police were understood to have begun searching the river after tyre marks were found on the bank at a spot where vehicles would not normally be parked. Mr Bridger has an ex-wife and a grown-up son who live on the same estate as April, as well as two ex-girlfriends living in Machynlleth.
Nia Rowlands, 39, whose niece Erin Dafydd had been playing with April, said the three girls were inseparable. She said: "They had been playing together and my niece said ‘I’m going home now, I’m cold’. The other two walked her home and in between that five to 10-minute gap [afterwards] April was taken. It’s horrid."

April’s brother Harley, aged nine, who had joined the search on Monday night with their sister, Jasmine, 16, went to the Ysgol Gyradd Machynlleth primary school as usual yesterday. Extra staff were on the gate and in the yard to provide reassurance to parents and pupils.
Police were understood to be looking at possible links between April’s disappearance and a suspected abduction attempt of a boy last week, with reports of a vehicle "acting suspiciously" in the Aberystwyth area.

Just hope they have the right bloke, remember what happened to the landlord Chris Jeffries when the police arrested him for that murder in Bristol and turned out he was innocent and it was the neighbour who had done it. They have had this bloke in custody since Tuesday and still haven't managed to get the info out of him, plus they were originally looking for a white or light grey landrover and this bloke has a dark blue truck. As i said hope they have the right bloke, but the press yet again will have a lot to answer for if they haven't.

Let's hope. But either way it isn't looking good for that poor little girl and her family.

so he is arrested and he doesnt talk?

what if forensics find traces of the girl in his car?

would you support torture, if he still wouldnt say where she is?

(there was once a similar case in germany, where the suspect was arrested, he definitely had done it, all alone, and he wouldnt say where the boy was hidden...during interrogation the suspect was threatened with rape, without saying the word, just finger games by an officer, allegedly suggesting a rape by a male - and that was considered torture, but then he talked within 5 minutes)

My point was that what has been released by the police so far in relation to the man they have had in custody since Tuesday is basically nothing, but the press have gone to town on him, including interviewing one of his kids etc. No i don't support torture, as i said earlier i hope they have the right man but if they don't the press will yet again have destroyed an innocent life.

He shoud have been waterboarded on Tuesday when he first wouldn' talk and if he still 'couln't' remember what he did then get out the jump leads.
^ Alledgedly, but if , as the police seem to think he IS guilty of this then i hope the PROPER lads in the system take 'good' care of the job in hand.

Send a couple of Thai cops over to 'assist with inquiries' - they seem to have no trouble with extracting confessions.

Of course, if the guy is innocent of the whole thing then he is fucked for life anyway now.

It's a tough one this, I suppose with the girl being missing (and they have to presume alive) then releasing the name of the guy to hopefully bring more witnesses/leads forwards had to be done.

I find it hard to understand how the perpretator had less than 24 hrs. to abduct and dispose of all evidence, sadly April.
Massive, massive effort gone into this searching and nothing has turned up as in clothing and his vehicle was taken quicky, no DNA, yet.
He had a LHD vehicle and they snapped him up the very next day so why ? and that is it ?
Get the jump leads out again but too late now sadly for sure.

I know the area very well and have fished the estuary. The repeating floods should, by now, have dislodged the body. I think it most likely that it will be washed up on the southern beach at Ynyslas, or a little further down the coast at Borth. Depending on the time of day the body reaches the sea, and the tide times it is just possible it will beach north at a place called Towyn, In any event, I would expect the body to be discovered very soon now. Even if the police are not monitoring these beaches, they are used extensively by dog walkers, as we did this time last year, surfers and anglers.

I think she'll be found this weekend and hope she is for the sake of her family.
Why can't I make new posts?

^ Can, you are assuming there that her body went into the water.
That is what is a distinct possibilty but with the massive searches for 4 days and nights now we must think this evil bastard has found another way of hiding her.
I'd sooner be under bombardment in a Syrian town now getting it, than to be this evil bastard - he has such a rosy future ahead of him in jail.

He could have buried her but I think it unlikely. At the time of her abduction, and for many hours after, there was very heavy rain and I think burial would not have been an option. The area around the town is very hilly and the soil is not deep. A grave would be difficult to conceal.

A possibility is that she may have been taken on mountain roads to disused mines. Nobody has mentioned that in the press but the police have been searching many areas that they have not told us about and it's a fair bet that they have considered this too.

The river seems obvious and he might not be bright enough to be able to have regard to tides and flood levels and thought that she would drift way out to sea. The area is known for riptides and is dangerous for bathing. There have been many fatalities as bathers have been swept away. Their bodies were washed up to the south of the estuary and I think she'll be found there very soon now.

Please dont think i am being pedantic mate but FFS, they have had Specialist Teams from the whole of the UK now for 4 fucking days and if they dont know the tidal drift, estruary sweeps etc. then i dont know.
She is NOT in the water, i would like to lay my last word on that but above all it is so tragic that the UK throws up yet another child killer.

She could be anywhere but the most likely place is in the water. A Mountain Rescue guy, one who ordinarily works in the area just north of my home, has confirmed that the mines I referred to above, and the surrounding area have been searched.

The guys who are looking for her know about the currents. I said that, perhaps, the guy who abducted her did not and would not realise that she would eventually be washed back ashore.

I am open minded and wouldn't rule out any location where she might be found. Are you familiar with the area, yourself ?

No, i dont claim to be but with the co-ordination of Land/Sea and Air and still they cannot find the little one then i think he has not buried her or not put her into the river nearby.

Exactly one year ago I spent a week in and around Machynlleth. I haven't fished the river but have fished the estuary. I know it pretty well as I was at university about 18 miles from there.

If he hasn't buried her or put her in the river, it's difficult to imagine what he might have done with her. There are relatively few buildings in the area outside of the town and, presumably, all have been searched by now. It's a stunningly beautiful area and is normally associated with peace and tranquility.

^. Strange that the Police got him within such a short time of the young girl missing and yet they are searching so far and wide from the scene, and still no news.
He must be one evil bastard (allededly) but if convicted i hope he would go to Walton - Liverpool, where i have freiends there who 'know' people.
