Has anyone noticed that the Turks never shot down the defecting Syrian pilot the other day even though it was a foreign plane inside their airspace? To shoot down a plane, procedures have to be followed and chain of commands have to be spoken to. The shooting down of the plane was therefore intentional and from high up. An apology is worthless.

I wonder if Nato getting involved with Syria could have any positive benefits for Greece where times are tough.

Do you think it would have been wise for the Turks to shoot down a plane over Jordan then?

No humanitarian action by the crusader coalition is ever "hostile", it's only rag heads and SCO members do naughty things like that.

    _________
You have copies of the radio transmissions from the Syrian aircraft to the Turkish forces requesting permission to land, the details of his bank account for them to send his money too, confirmation that his family had arrived safely at the Turkish border, copies of previously agreed contracts signed the weekend before between the coalition crusaders and the Major.................................

I am sure the Syrians knew that the plane didnt have any missiles or bombs on board. The Syrians obviously have such a great relationship with Turkey that they believe every word emitted by the crusader coalition spokesman.

Assads days are numbered because the Syrian military is shit, and he can't trust them. The Syrian military doesn't have the skill or the balls to fight house to house, that is why they have been relying heavily on artillery strikes. Past wars show us you need to have boots on the ground to win a war, and air power and artillery alone can't do it. It's a shame because the Syrian Free Army are a wretched bunch of shit bags being used by the West to get rid of another enemy of Israel.

Yes it HAD been, but was on its way back when it was whacked in international waters.
Also the Syrians would have known it was a) a recon. plane and b) Turkish and these events happen frequently so the order to down it was provocative to say the least.
Could it be that the mighty Russian Bear has just sent two warships to the Syrian port of Litakia ?, sounds to me like a final roll of the dice for the butcher of Damascus.

Didn't the British sink a battleship that was just sailing home, minding it's own business some years ago?

There is absolutely no way the Turks would ever consider sliding a bomb or missile under the wing. OK.

    Turkey declares jet shoot-down a 'hostile' act - CNN.com

"Istanbul (CNN) -- Turkey officially considers the shooting down of one of its military fighter jets by Syria to be a hostile act, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Sunday.
Turkey delivered the message in a diplomatic note to the Syrian consulate in Istanbul, calling the incident "a hostile movement," ministry spokesman Selcuk Unal told CNN.

The incident raises the temperature between the two regional powers significantly.
Syria gave no warning before shooting down the F-4 Phantom jet which strayed into its territory, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Sunday in an appearance filled with tough talk against Syria. He accused Syria of spreading "disinformation" about the incident.

"They have created the impression that Syria felt like it was an act of aggression and they shot it down. ... from our perspective that's not the case," Davutoglu told reporters. The plane in the Friday incident was unarmed, not sending hostile signals, and identifiable as Turkish, he said.

"You have to first send a caution, a warning," he said in the first detailed Turkish statement on the international incident. "If the warning doesn't work, you scramble your planes, you send a stronger signal, you force the plane to land. There wasn't enough time to do any of that in the time that our plane was in Syrian airspace."
"We have to question how it is that an unarmed, solo flight got this response from the Syrians," he said.

He said the fighter jet was in international airspace when it was fired upon.
It had strayed into Syrian territory in a "short, unintentional violation," but was notified by the Turkish side that it had crossed the line, and returned to international airspace, Davutoglu said.

Turkey will respond "decisively," but within international law, the foreign minister vowed, saying: "It's a fine line."

Turkey took its case to NATO, a spokeswoman for the alliance confirmed. Turkey, a key member of the group, is expected to make a presentation on the incident in Brussels Tuesday. It called for the meeting under NATO's Article 4, which deals with what happens when the "territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened."

British Foreign Minister William Hague Sunday called the incident "outrageous" and said he condemned it wholeheatedly."

"The Assad regime should not make the mistake of believing that it can act with impunity. It will be held to account for its behavior," Hague said of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

The plane was participating in a test of Turkey's national radar system
    , Davutoglu said.

Davutoglu has spoken with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the foreign ministers of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia and Iran, and the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton since the incident, spokesman Selcuk Unal told CNN Saturday."

Testing the Syrian radar more likely.

The crusader coalition changes up another gear. I hope you're not changing planes in Cyprus on the way back harry.

Some idea of how close it was to the Syrian coast and how far from Turkish Airspace and International airspace

McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"As of 2008, 631 Phantoms remained in active service worldwide,[24] while the Phantom also remains in use as a target drone operated by the U.S. military."

No wonder they cant find the pilot!

All part of the service offered by Obama et al to promote democracy around the world.

Yes I did see it sorry to steal your thunder.

With the accusations of the position I was driven to put the "location" of the incident into more perspective and thanks to google maps, paintshop etc. it was possible to add boundaries, distances to refute one sides claims.

    It wont happen again, sir.
