Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in with Jokes and Funnies, which covers most things to do with new-age Blighty.

Two convicted murderers are among 13 escapees from a prison in Sudbury, Derbyshire, England, in recent months. But most of the men, including the murderers, are still at large because police won't release their photos, since that could breach their human rights.

"When making a decision to release any photograph, police forces must nowadays take into account numerous factors including the public interest test," lectured a police spokesman, "whether there is a strong local policing purpose and, of course, the Human Rights and Data Protection Acts."

And then, the spokesman said by escaping, the prisoners "abused the trust we have placed in them," and "it's up to us to trace their whereabouts." (PA)


Crikey, here you could be on TV for having some drunkard spin you off your bike. Just as well the Thais never heard of privacy and rights.

Anyway, the last para doesn't make too much sense, unless the murderers were at an open nick pending release on parole, or struck lucky on a paper shuffle.
