Village Wok

Singapore Restaurant Reviews

Hello Unregistered,

Far East Square 01-01, 80-82 Telok Ayer Street, Tel: 6743-9743 Open: 11.30am to 2.30pm, 5.30 to 9.30pm

Smoked chicken is such a homely dish that few restaurants put in on their menu.

But Village Wok, which first opened in a non-aircondiitoned shophouse in Geylang in 1999, did and it became an instant hit for the eatery.

The restaurant has since moved to Far East Square, where you now dine in cool comfort.

Its village smoked chicken ($19) is apparently based on a 100-year-old recipe passed down the owner’s family.

The smokey flavour permeates both the browned skin and the meat, giving it a fragrance you do not get with other styles of cooking.

What I also like about the dish is that the chicken is very moist and tender, including the breast meat.

An accompanying minced ginger dip is all that is needed to complete it.
