Pagi Sore

Singapore Restaurant Reviews

Hello Unregistered,

88/90 Telok Ayer Street, Tel: 6225-6002 Open: 11am to 2.30pm, 6 to 10pm Outlet: 1, Yuan Ching Road 01-02 (Jurong Superbowl), Tel: 6266-3200

This halal nasi padang restaurant, which relocated here from Amoy Street about three years ago, boasts good Indonesian food by Liyana Kwan.

One dish which stands out is the Ikan Otah Kukus ($17.50).

The leatherjacket fish is steamed atop a bed of smooth otah paste on a frond of tapioca leaf. The slivers of fish, which come off the bone easily, are fragrant with the creamy mixture that is a combination of coconut milk, eggs and spices.

The rice here is interestingly packed in a banana leaf folded into a cone and held together by a toothpick.

The aroma of the rice hits you once the packet is opened. Apparently, it is cooked first, then packed in the leaf and steamed.

Kwan, the 48-year-old owner from Riau who is now a Singapore permanent resident, came up with this idea to keep the rice both hot and fragrant.

And it has become a trademark of sorts for Pagi Sore, the name of which means morning and evening in Bahasa Indonesia.
