The Goodwood Park Hotel was the one to invent the durian mousse cake back in the mid-1980s.
But these days, it is better known for another durian dessert, its durian puffs.
That’s partly because the durian cake has been copied successfully by every cake shop in town but none has managed to duplicate the recipe for the puffs.
The durian is top grade and only lightly sweetened. And the puff pastry is soft and light as air.
So biting into a puff is as heavenly as eating the actual fruit, except you do not get the smell on your fingers.
Available as a seasonal item at the deli from March to August, and again in December, the puffs are priced at $1.80 each or $10.50 for six.
The rest of the year, you will have to satisfy your durian dessert cravings with either a durian crepe at the hotel’s Coffee Lounge or a pudding at the Min Jiang Restaurant.
