Golden Peony

Singapore Restaurant Reviews

Hello Unregistered,

Conrad Centennial Singapore, 2 Temasek Boulevard, Tel: 6432-7482 Open: 11.30am to 2.30pm (Mondays to Saturdays), 10.30am to 2.30pm (Sundays), 6.30 to 10.30pm (daily)

There are many excellent Cantonese restaurants here serving good dim sum.

But at Golden Peony, the chef always comes up with original creations that you do not find elsewhere. And they never fail to be good.

Among the latest offerings, for example, are a couple of dumplings wrapped in squid ink skin. Strange, yes, but strangely good too.

For example, there is a steamed squid-ink scallop dumpling ($5.80), which has a sweet scallop encased in a black skin with a hint of the smokey ink taste.

If you are into deep-fried food, the ones here are really light with a fluffy pastry that just disintegrates in the mouth.

The ones to go for are the deep-fried fresh prawn with banana and honey dew (above, $6) and the deep-fried taro and golden pumpkin roll ($4.50).

Do not limit yourself to the dim sum menu but check out the desserts too. There is a puree of sweet potato in Chinese puff pastry ($3.80) which could very well be a dim sum.

The pastry is light as air, and the sweet potato is velvety smooth and sweetened so very lightly.
