    Goa....india

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about Goa in India. I've been looking at the maps and a few books. It seems that the best beaches are in the south (with the best hotels) The most lively spots seem to be in the North of Goa....but there aren't any good hotels listed. Would appreciate it if anyone could give some advice.. I'm thinking of going for a month or so after Pattaya. I want some lively area but with a good hotel.

Get down to Palolem beach in the South of Goa. My favourite beach anywhere in the world.

When I was there a few years ago there weren't any hotels there, only guest houses. They were building a resort hotel two beaches down though.

I stayed in a hut made from woven palm fronds on the beach. Very nice, but it is possible to get a villa.

If you want, I can scan some photos and post them up for you.

The two beaches south of Palolem are wonerful (or at least they were).

But you need to charter a boat to reach Butterfly Beach and see some dolphins.

Back to Palolem Beach for some fruit.

And lastly, the river mouth at the north end of Palolem Beach.

    Bogmallo beach resort

it is just down of the airport, 4 km, nice 5 stars hotel in small fishing and coconut alcohol destillery place...

From there you're few km to the town or if you go south along the coast lots of palm trees and rice fields allterning, beautifull scenery...

This Bogmallo should be less then 100 us i think, i went there often, but this is now over 10 years ago...

It's not the "68" smoking and clubbing area, may be 30 km away from that... but scuba diving snorkeling, fishing with natives...

The sun is blaaddy hot, carefull ! and the animals are hungry! i threw one sead of a fruit and few birds attacked me on the balcony 5 th floor, Hitchcock style, the people are great...

I second Marmite's verdict. However, I also suggest that you rent a motorcycle. Many of Goa's beaches are located faraway and public transport isn't exactly the best. With a motorcycle you can go all over the city to check out the place that you like best.

Given Goa is on the west coast, I imagine 6-00 pm isn't really all that early!

    That thing was a lamp!

And the blue thing was my torch (since lost).

With regard to drugs, the Indian authorities are quite tough on them, but where we stayed was owned by a policeman (or someone with connections), so they were happy to let people smoke a bit of ganja.

I was happy with the beer.

A friendly taxi driver may be able to sort you out with a hooker, but I wouldn't (and didn't) bother. I don't think the standards are very high. You'll certainly not be able to find that Moghul harem experience.

Thanks for all replies . We have now booked a small (cheap) hotel close to Calangute Beach. It seems to be the centre of any activity AND has a beach . If anything of interest happens I'll post. (That will be in November...if I survive Pattaya!!!)

    Not horrific (don't worry).

It didn't have much character. Kinda reminded me of an English beach rather than a tropical paradise. We stayed for two days before moving on back to Baga in the north for Christmas. I'll have a look for some pictures when I get home.
