Went biking and hiking today
I forgot to ask, what's mobile t'interweb like in Mandalay and Bagan?
And can you get a SIM card in Mandalay airport?
I'd go for MPT- I just switched over from Orreedo which had become unusable. MPT now has 4g and I am able to video call locally and internationally, stream videos and do some moderate downloading for work. You should be able to get it at the airport or failing that any mobile phone shop- take your passport just in case they ask for it.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda

Very good all over the country, ( i even had service while on the Irrawaddy an Chindwin rivers) sim internet is 90% of the time faster than any hotels wifi. Even fast enough to watch you tube video's
get an MPT sim card ( under $2.0) and add at least 7,000 kyat and apply for the 5, 5000 kyat 2 gig program. plenty to last ya 2 weeks

According to FB this time last year I was hiking in Shan State- would rather be there than in Mandalay now. My supervisor is getting married and has whatever the male equivalent of being Bridezilla is. Doing my effing head in, but I digress- here are some pics.
Looks good Mandaloopy.. I'm hoping to visit Bagan at some point.
It looks good in black and white. Love the smiles on the kids... really precious pic.Originally Posted by Mandaloopy
^ Bagan is a lovely place, I'd also recommend you do a trip to Inle lake, too. You'd be better flying into Mandalay as it is closer to both Inle and Bagan. Taungyyi is also close to Inle and I think it is one of the most underrated places in Myanmar.
^Great information! I'll have to look into Taungyyi and Inle. I'll definitely fly into Myanmar. I'd green people, but I can't see to green yet.
i was in Inle lake this past april and was very disappointed ( first time i have been in Myanmar)
granted the lake is beautiful but the nearby town is not, most back packers i have seen in one place outside Khao san road and the only place i have been hassled to buy tours and the ONLY market ( off the lake) i have visited that had goods excursively for tourists. lots of backpacker style places to drink and eat as well if thats what ur looking for.
