    Bobcock in India again.......

Just been on another photography trip to India, fantastic as always, managed to achieve something I really wanted to do, which was to get permission to use a tripod in the Harminder Sahib in Amritsar, which is quite restricted. Also stayed in the Taj Palace, Mumbai which is just fantastic, the only 5 start hotel I have ever stayed in that really is everything it is cracked up to be.

I'm not going to post pic after pic, I'm just going to post a selection of the best, one by one, there are many up on my website for those who know it, though many are mixed in categories with the previous trip.

    The first one is:

Taken from the 5th floor walkway in the Taj Palace Hotel. It really is stunning inside and the renovation after the Terrorist attacks for 2008 is spot on.

This is the grand staircase in the Palace wing.

As you can see the stairs themselves are cantilevered, apparently it is the largest cantilevered staircase in India or the world or something big anyway.

Really look forward to this thread - great photography, as always, and my old stomping grounds. Stayed at the Taj many times when I lived in India.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus..... Formerly known as Victoria Terminus. My brief visit here confirmed one thing, you can't take decent photos when travelling with the wife. I could have just wandered around the station for hours looking for a photo opportunity, I had one in my head that I didn't get even a chance to scope out, but who wants to spend a holiday standing in a Railway Station.....not my wife that's for sure (and rightly so).

    Crawford Market.

Not the greatest market I've ever been in but quite fun to walk around.

Whilst we were there it was Navy Day. There was a Parade along the front with a marching band and a troop of female sea cadets dancing Irish jigs which culminated in front of a crowd of dignitaries in from the the Gateway to India.

There was also a helicopter display show , the helicopters flying in and hovering right in front of the hotel outside my window.

Great thread Bobcock! Those pics of the Taj brought back nostalgic memories of late afternoon drinks at the Sea Lounge.

Taking a trip to Malabar Hill..........

You may remember I took a similar pic in Kolkata, I recreated the same in Mumbai whilst going to Malabar Hill..... I increased the angle on this one to get in the fact that the driver was shoeless.

Next stop Amritsar in the Punjab..... my favourite place in India......

I got to use a tripod this time, only for an hour and not at the best time of the day, they transmit from the temple live for an hour before and after sunrise and sunset and do not allow anyone setting up such stuff on the Parikrama. So I got granted an hour after sunset, but as you will find from some later shots, I did find a way to take long exposures without the tripod. It's really important to get the water smooth the pictures are soooo much better that way.

There was a very good documentary series on the Taj on BBC2 last year. It was called Hotel India. I really want to stay there soon.

That was what inspired my wife to want me to take her there.

I met many of the staff featured but sadly not the old guy, he retired "The Taj is building me very strongly"......

Only two episodes have ever been shown in India, so I gave the staff the whole series in HD, it's on the computer in the Harbour Bar.

Inside the temporary kitchens for the legendary Langar Hall. They serve up to 70,000 free meals a day at the Harminder Sahib.

They are building a whole new kitchen block so the kitchens have been moved since I was last there.
