Thumbs up My London Trip December 2nd-11th

Hi all. It's been ages since I've started a thread on here and I don't really post much anymore. Anyway, my husband is on a contract in London and I got to go visit him just in time for the big freeze. It was freakin' cold, but I made the most of it and went out every day.

I have loads of pics so bear with me while I load them and hope to answe any of your questions or comments. Enjoy.

Nice pictures. Maybe it's just the weather, but it's a pretty depressing looking place.

Before I moved to Thailand I used to live just around the corner from Liberty, on Poland Street. Nice pics, Natalie, brings back some memories. Especially nice from the perspective of a sunny December afternoon in Thailand

Yes, DK, I really noticed the grayness and heaviness of the clouds especially after living in Dubai where it's sunny and bright for about 360 days of the year. That's why I got excited at the few minutes of blue sky.

DrBob, don't rub it in, 555. I really felt the cold and I really missed being in Thailand by my second day.

Nice pics Natalie , I thought I'd start to get warm feelings of nostalgia having spent some of the best years of my life living there , in fact I got the opposite . Guess I'm getting old or just more suited to a simple lifestyle...

DD , used to be P.O tower before they renamed it "Telecom Tower"

Thanks for the comments and the greens. Pat, I had put the dates on my thread. All of these pics are from the weekend. I'm going to start posting more now from Monday, the first day of my bus tour.

The tower of London. It's apparently the most haunted building in the world. I didn't have a chance to go inside, but I will next time I go.

This is the spot where the great fire of London started.

    From Wikipedia:

The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of the English city of London, from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666.[1] The fire gutted the medieval City of London inside the old Roman City Wall. It threatened, but did not reach, the aristocratic district of Westminster, Charles II's Palace of Whitehall, and most of the suburban slums.[2] It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St. Paul's Cathedral, and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated that it destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants.[3] The death toll from the fire is unknown and is traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded anywhere, and that the heat of the fire may have cremated many victims, leaving no recognisable remains.

A couple of many beautiful churches

The OXO Building. When it was constructed, there were laws forbidding advertising, so what they did was they built the name into the bricks. The authorities never noticed it.

It was way too cold for boat tours. Maybe next time.

    More beautiful buildings
